Looks like it's a done deal...

Isn’t this the guy Missouri players were quitting on when Purdue smoked them in 2017?
Then he came back to RA a year later and beat us.

Odom got the job when Pinkel left due to pressure of all the race protests on the Mizzou campus. I don’t remember all the details but it was a weird situation. Had them back to winning quickly in what was a weird time and situation to try and get black athletes to a place that seemingly wasn’t friendly to them. In hindsight it was all liberal bullshit but it’s a good sign that he can lead a program through adversity. Our only adversity is that we currently suck. Shouldn’t be a tough fix.

If he can bring his OC along I think that helps generate some buzz. We’ll need it to climb out of the personnel hole we will have when all of Walters vigilante guys take off.

I think there were guys out there with potentially higher ceilings but I do think those would pose more failure risk. I don’t think this hire fails. I think this hire probably pushes us to the 4-8 win range and likely the mid to higher end of that most years. Isn’t that really what we want? Competitive football and when the winds blow right an 8 win team? I think it’s a good fit in that regard.

Time will tell.

They say that he embraces NIL and was able to get UNLV donors behind what he needed. Hope he can do the same here.

I think he’s a “football guy” and that’s something we need to get back to. No excuses. Hard work. Striving to meet and exceed standards. Not about the flash but focused on fundamentals. That resonates IMO with the kind of kids we will need to nab to be successful.

Barely beat us. A team that ended up 6-7. Meh

I actually ended up agreeing with many people here by the end of the Walters era. We need an offensive innovator. Not a “football guy.” A leader of men will just end up getting beat by leaders of men with better Jimmys and Joes here

His UNLV OC is a top innovator. If we can get him I think we probably win 6 year one.

His OC hires have generally been impressive. He revitalized Tennessee’s HCs career and has made some good hires.

There’s a lot to like about it…he’s the type of guy who can win here at a level that meets our expectations and sustain it for 6-8 years. Isn’t that what we want?

Or were you holding out for Saban?

I definitely wanted an offensive guy, and my first instinct was a bit of disappointment. But I like Odom. Seems like the closest we could reasonably expect to get as a “can’t miss” competent hire, given our current circumstances.

Is the UNLV OC coaching in the bowl game?

Based on what he just said during the press conference, sounds like if he's coming, we won't know that until after their bowl game as he said he's letting them focus on that before getting them here.

If the oc comes with great .. but then you have to hire equal innovators when said innovator gets a top job

I told you what I was holding out illiterate moron. Offensive innovator. How you get that that means saban is ridiculous. You claim that the job is a good one. Should be easy to find an offensive innovator at the cradle of QBs if you are going to pay for players.

My contention was that Purdue wouldn’t be desirable to a top tier offensive mind even from g5 because that mind would want to know where his war chest was and Purdue would say that they don’t really do “that.”

I was told this was tired.

Barry odom is what you get when I ended up being right. Walters managed to screw us by being as bad as he was. Had he been just slightly bad and then been fired next year, now Purdue can sell revenue sharing to said coach. Now you hire Odom and if he’s just okay, people will say “you can’t fire a guy after one 5-7 season just because Purdue is a more desirable location due to revenue sharing being finalized.

The upside of this is a Bret bielema like performance. But bielema is doing it with wealthier alum who care about sports and with better access to Chicago athletes

I'm not going to dance around a ? , my top tier was Silverfield, Chadwell, and Sumrall. My 2nd tier was Mendenhall, Odom, and Albin. So I will conclude this w/ giving the hiring as a B-

OC is not being asked to come to Purdue I have learned today

I didn’t look at top tier offensive minds with HC experience. I also don’t go shopping for Maseratis. Get what I’m saying?
