Yep it’s been this way - almost like the league has an agreement - this is only a money maker tourney - don’t really worry about itFurther proof of how meaningless the BTT is…
agree , plus it more time where an injury can happenAnd is yet another reason why I have said that I personally cannot stand the BTT. This is not the first time it's been shown to be a meaningless thing.
As already said, unless a team that was not slated to get in wins the whole thing to get the auto bid, it has zero value.
So metrics and NET were actually pretty good and a lot of your worries were not needed! It’s a good thing!Shocked by michigan and ahocked by our seed
Can’t remember if it was here or X, but it’d be interesting if the top 3 seeds of the conference could opt out of the big ten tourney and allow the bottom 3 to play their way in 😂agree , plus it more time where an injury can happen

Zero literally - facts show itAnd is yet another reason why I have said that I personally cannot stand the BTT. This is not the first time it's been shown to be a meaningless thing.

Why is 4 v 5 "shocking?"Shocked by michigan and ahocked by our seed
It's just as meaningless as the Big Ten football conference championship game.Further proof of how meaningless the BTT is…
Counterpoint … Illinois probably got itself from a 4 seed to a 3 seed last year due to Q1 wins it got in the BTT, and that very likely was the difference between a Second Round/Sweet Sixteen exit and the Elite Eight we got. I think there’s a lot of nuance in how much the BTT “matters.”We say it 100 times every year and people still say "if we get to the final we'll move up" or "winner will be a 1 and loser a 2" it is absolutely meaningless unless a bubble team goes on a run to bolster their resume.
My worries are plenty needed because this team is playing awful for a while now and I wouldnt be surprised by anything. We probably beat HP but dont think we are beating clemsonSo metrics and NET were actually pretty good and a lot of your worries were not needed! It’s a good thing!
Michigan beat us twice, made the championship game, had a better record.. 11-7 vs quad 1 vs our 7-10... though our quad 2 was way better and we are higher in NET and kenpom. Why is 4 v 5 "shocking?"
Yup, the BTT has little to no impact on seeding. They should move the championship to Saturday. And is yet another reason why I have said that I personally cannot stand the BTT. This is not the first time it's been shown to be a meaningless thing.

Or we smoked Michigan at home and were beating them the entire game until the last 4 minutes and the BTT means zipMichigan beat us twice, made the championship game, had a better record.. 11-7 vs quad 1 vs our 7-10... though our quad 2 was way better and we are higher in NET and kenpom.
If recency bias plays even the smallest role I feel michigan should be above us
How many times do people need to be told that there is no such thing as recency bias?Michigan beat us twice, made the championship game, had a better record.. 11-7 vs quad 1 vs our 7-10... though our quad 2 was way better and we are higher in NET and kenpom.

Non conference SOS - reason they said Carolina got in. Bogus maybe but that’s their reasoningJust on here. How we we get a 4 and Michigan gets a five? How is my logic better than the leads logic? Convince me.
Ah but we definitely could and we don’t know what else happens - that’s the beauty of itMy worries are plenty needed because this team is playing awful for a while now and I wouldnt be surprised by anything. We probably beat HP but dont think we are beating clemson
Clemson gotta beat Mcneese firstMy worries are plenty needed because this team is playing awful for a while now and I wouldnt be surprised by anything. We probably beat HP but dont think we are beating clemson
Nah nah. You were always worried about NET and our seeding. I’m saying your worries didn’t need to be as bad as they were.My worries are plenty needed because this team is playing awful for a while now and I wouldnt be surprised by anything. We probably beat HP but dont think we are beating clemson
Ah yes. I knew and know metrics matter a lot. Im still surprised they mattered as much as they did for us with how awful we have looked for an alarmingly long time, but that is why a while ago I was stressing over them early in the year. They matter a LOTNah nah. You were always worried about NET and our seeding. I’m saying your worries didn’t need to be as bad as they were.
But it doesn't. And you just explained why we were higher.Michigan beat us twice, made the championship game, had a better record.. 11-7 vs quad 1 vs our 7-10... though our quad 2 was way better and we are higher in NET and kenpom.

I doubt he will play the first game and maybe not even the second depending on who they play.Sounded like the Selection Committee had the bracket 99% completed on Friday and they danced around the indirect question on how North Carolina got in with some new metrics they did not mention by name. I kinda fault the panel when they did not push further to get the answer but I guess they were protecting their jobs! Interesting to see to see if Flagg plays the first game and how well he plays in it or the second game because if he is hurt that should have cost them the #1 seed.
Don't forget, the chair of the entire committee is the UNC AD. That definitely had something to do with UNC getting in.Sounded like the Selection Committee had the bracket 99% completed on Friday and they danced around the indirect question on how North Carolina got in with some new metrics they did not mention by name. It would make more sense if they had actually won a few of those games, but they didn't. Play a tough non-conference SOS and win nothing? Beating UCLA just doesn't cut it for the best win of the year.OOC SOS is what saved UNC and cost IU. It's the one thing big schools can control and I was glad to see IU punished for not doing a better job of scheduling.
I'm not here to "defend" UNC getting in. But yes, by the metrics you are better off scheduling tough and losing some versus what IU did and schedule cupcakes and beat them. I'm oversimplifying it, but that is the idea of the OOC SOS.It would make more sense if they had actually won a few of those games, but they didn't. Play a tough non-conference SOS and win nothing? It just seems in football they do it totally different. Bama always played a weak OOC SOS, but in-conference games helped later in the year. I mean IU was a prime example in football as well.I'm not here to "defend" UNC getting in. It was discussed on this board quite a bit early in the season, that IU better play well in conference because their OOC schedule was going to bite them otherwise, and it did.
Agree, in FB you just want to win your games and if you're in a major conference it will usually work out for you. With hoops and the greater number of games, they are able to scrutinize the schedule better. It just seems in football they do it totally different. I guess, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving program.Agree, in FB you just want to win your games and if you're in a major conference it will usually work out for you. With hoops and the greater number of games, they are able to scrutinize the schedule better.
If I were an IU fan, I would be pissed because I do think they are probably a better team than UNC. But it isn't like these metrics aren't known to everyone. If dopes like me on an internet board can see they might be in for trouble with their OOC schedule, the AD and coach sure can!
