Complete & utter domination smh . Haven't been ducking you guys just been pretty busy .
At least we didn't get shut out! haha but seriously that was an embarrassment for us on Homecoming (I turned it off at the start of the 3rd quarter) :(.
still have no clue how you guys lost to Eastern Michigan cause Purdue now looks like a well oiled machine. anyways , best of luck to you guys the rest of the way (would be really neat to see you guys pull off an upset vs tO$U ****eyes )

you're all class for coming here after that game.

Please dump Lovie.

Don't know much about him. He could be the greatest man on the face of the earth, but from a coaching standpoint, the Illini deserve better.

Fire Lovie and hire the EMU coach!

It's crazy to think a coach as bad as lovie was once a respected nfl coach. Illinois should cut him loose asap. Good coaches don't lose like that. He reminds me of haze.

Are you an IU fan? Because then you have a lot that Lovie reminds you of

Buyout if Lovie leaves for another coaching job: $6,000,000 before 1/31/18; $5,500,000 before 1/31/19; $5,000,000 before 1/31/20; $4,500,000 before 1/31/21.

Yeah, he's a bad coach. I hated the hire. I thought it was done to just gain some interest in the Chicago area.

In general I don't like the whole "let's hire an old NFL coach" model. They've made their money, and usually don't have the energy for recruiting.

Thanks for the compliment. You have a young team and maybe next year they will come into their own. Norm

I disagree. Illinois should extend his contract another 10 years.

Lovie Smith isn’t the guy to take Illinois to the next level, IMO. If anything, Illinois will be competing with Minnesota for the West basement while he’s there. I just think their AD made a mistake, like Burke did with D-Haze. In fairness to Lovie, he’s better than D-Haze, but that’s not saying much.

I would argue that hiring Lovie was worse than hiring Hazell. Hazell's career was at least (supposedly) on the upswing. Lovie's is clearly on the downswing.

Lovie was a .500 coach in the NFL. D-Haze basically had one good season at Kent State.

The new AD at Illinois overpaid to get Lovie. In their financial situation, they are basically handcuffed with him for at least two more years.

Maybe Lovie should start rowing a boat.....that seems to fire up the fan base.

DH took a sub-500 program to a phenomenal year, and a top-20 ranking. His performance here was horrible, but let's give credit where credit is due. OTOH, having success in the NFL is irrelevant to the CFB game.

I think I need to take another shower. :D Minnesota fans will be burning their RTB gear outside TCF Bank Stadium when it starts getting colder up there. I think the schtick has already worn thin with the fanbase. The performance hasn’t matched the hype and the excuses are sounding increasingly lame.

I think the point is that Lovie came in with better credentials than D-Haze and it’s not hard to see how an AD would think that Lovie was a good hire at the time. In retrospect, they were both bad hires for the schools. Both coaches were overpaid for what they’ve delivered on the field.

My thought when Hazell was hired was, "Ok, he's an up-and-comer. Let's see what he can do here."

My thought when Lovie was hired was, "Seriously, Lovie Smith to Illinois?"

yeah, me too. I was moderately enthused when DH was hired. Lovie? I couldn't see him succeeding, whether he came from the NFL, CFL, XFL, or Arena league.

For similar reasons I've never been too high on anyone hiring Gruden. Yes, he's a SB champion coach, and he's 'energetic.' But, none of that matters to me, as it relates to CFB.

Gruden coached a team built by Tony Dungy to a SB win.

Hey now....that wasn't a knock against anyone coming from the XFL was it??????!!!!???

This is true, plus, talent is so even in the NFL. Lombardi was right. There isn’t more than 5% talent difference from sideline to sideline. In college, the level of talent and experience from one Purdue unit to the next or one Illinois unit to the next can be night and day. So NFL vanilla schemes on either side don’t work. It’s a different game. A college coach can be successful in the NFL and vice versa.. but it’s a rare bird that can do both
