Chance to beat MSU?

I think PU has an outstanding chance to win this game. Of course, they could lose as well.

Bravos. So glad they won. I hated that they treated Biggie like that (giving out a paper telling fans to boo him and call him a name - disgusting)

Weren't they just saying to chant his name "Caleb"? That's pretty tame. I did hear "traitor" a few times too but I'm doubting that's anything he'll lose sleep over tonight. Frankly I expected much worse.

You might be overstating our advantages. MSU has higher rated recruits across the whole court than we do. They have substantial home court advantage. I think your bombastic statements about no excuses reflect that you watch Purdues games exclusively and not enough games of other teams.

This is going to be a very difficult game for us to win. I always had this one pencilled as a loss, right from the start of the season. I would think MSU is favored at this point

It turns out you were wrong and I was right. Painter came through and won a game he was supposed to win as a favorite, like I thought he would and should. Boiler Up.

People here will try to first lower your expectation, then if we really lose, it doesn't look bad and like a disappointment. That's the strategy.

Its called the built in excuse and this board, in particular, is awful at it. Whether conciously or not, people are going out of their way to build in excuses for future games instead of just accepting reality - we are the better team and should win and a loss is a big disappointment. Too many Painter loyalists who want to have a fallback plan in the event he gets embarrassed is my guess. Well, he didnt get embarrased - he took a superior team on the road and won a game he was supposed to win. And he wouldve won by a lot more had MSU not ran insanely hot from 3.

And negatwitts like you try to over-inflate expectations and then when we lose, jump off of a ledge and make it a bigger deal than it is. That's the strategy of you that tie entirely too much self-entitlement in to a sport.

Yep.

Just like the Jay Wright apologists needed one the other night.
Just like the Bill Self apologists needed one the other night.
Just like the Calipari apologists needed one the other night.

That's just this week. We can go back further in the season and hit most coaches in college basketball with an upset if you want. Doesn't make any of those guys bad coaches.

You are absolutely 100% correct. The only way guys like that feel like a winner is through other people and nobody, especially sports teams he has almost nothing to do with, better let icewind7 down! Only icewind7 lets icewind7 down!

I, too, think this is going to be a herculean test for Purdue.

I don't often cheer for Indiana, but I did when they hosted MSU for the exact reason cited above. I never like to go to somebody else's arena when they're coming off a loss.

Purdue has to find a way --- but I disagree that means playing with their hair on fire. Too often that leads to sloppy turnovers and poor shots. Purdue can't afford to give up easy transition points to MSU.

On the contrary, I think Purdue has to be deliberate. Be patient on offense, work for good shots, and dig their heals in on defense. Above all, Purdue can't get rattled when calls go against them and when MSU makes runs. Both of those things WILL happen Tuesday evening. Purdue has to stay focused and play with controlled intensity the entire game.
Reviewing this post in hindsight reveals just how dead on you were. My favorite part of the game was the way we ran patient, deliberate, get the ball in the post offense through the the last 4:00 minutes. Completely opposite of how did it at Iowa. Nice job by both Purdue and rgarlitz.

I highly doubt the Villanova fans were predicting them to lose at Marquette. They expected to win.

Just like we were right to expect a win at MSU. Painter was supposed to win. He had the best player, beyter team, deeper team, more experienced team, and a decided size advantage. All that and you still saw a ton of MSU predictions for some odd reason. Quit building in excuses and expect wins. This wouldve been a huge disappointment had Painter took this team in and loee to that team.

As it was, he didnt lose. He won, pretty easily. Wouldve been a blowout had MSU not ran stupid hot from 3 in the first half to keep it close.

Well if they didn't expect to lose then they were obviously wrong.

The truth is that a win or a loss in that game wouldn't have shocked any neutral observer. We were very slight favorites. I'm sure you would've been a big drama queen about it had we lost but those of us that have followed basketball for more than a couple of years would've been slightly disappointed and then moved on.
