Can we PLEASE fire Walters?

Gimme a break. If IU, Kansas State, Iowa State, etc etc can get proven head coaches, no reason we can’t do the same.
Agreed, this shit that any coach Purdue would hire would be a gamble/ high risk acquisition is pure stupidity.....
I'm not sure where this mindset comes from other than it is an indirect defense of CRW....
Purdue has the blueprints for the next coaching hire to be a successful one...... they just have to be smart enough to read them...........

It does matter lol
It's how you GET a Cignetti and his staff and fifteen players to come to your school.

Talent is a difference. It amazes me that people think the only thing that matters is coaching. Just get a good coach problem solved.
Nice try. No body has said that good coaching is everything, but we certainly can see what it's like when you don't have good coaching...

I think some folks are still embarrassed that they hung on as Walters apologists a lot longer than others did.

And I and I think no one else has said "Walters is a good coach."

The solution is going to be more complicated than just "go get a good coach."
Agreed, but CRW has compounded those other issues.....who wants to support the NIL effort when the level of coaching is so poor. What athletes want to play for a loosing program?
Brohm lost momentum at or just after year three ,and CRW lost it in game two of his second season...... In this current environment, a coach of CRW's abilities can be a death nail to a program.....

Just score a few points maybe? Show some form of life. I think this coach is kind of an ego guy. His way will work if we all live to be 100.

Based on what? It's not 2000 anymore.

When you can instantly reload by bringing in key talent in spots via portal coaching isn't 90 percent anymore.

Recruiting via dollars is a lot more important.

I just understand why folks think the portal and NIL literally changed nothing.
I’ll give 2 examples: iu and FSU.
Did iu turn their program around because they got a massive influx of top 10 level talent?
Did FSU talent suddenly drop off the cliff, resulting in a 1-8 team?
Talent is extremely important, but coaching is more.

Agree here. It’s the system. Not just on the field but off of it too. No discipline. The work ethic is extremely lacking. The fundamentals have disappeared. Overall, we stink and there’s just no way this coach pulls us out of it.

I think the fact that everyone is talking about what we need to do to replace him is an indicator that no one is singing his virtues right now

IU got talent. They got a complete coaching staff. They paid for both.

Are you saying iu is more committed to having a successful football program than Purdue?
They are certainly more committed to spending money to do so.

It's why they didn't go cheap with a guy who never was a head coach.

I am begging here. Please, please, please let us move on from this misery.
Unfortunately it will not happen! Since there is no commitment to having a winning program, as long Purdue can field 22 warm bodies nothing is going to change except perhaps Walters will get a raise and contract extension!

this is the difference I'm seeing staff wise

PU head coach $4m
PU assistant pool $5.5m

IU head coach $4.25m
IU assistant pool $5.8m

I give up though. Folks want to believe what they want to believe.

Probably because we all know how cheap Purdue is so you need a money doesn't matter mindset to have hope I guess.

No proof they are spending substantially more than us on NIL in that piece.

Their staff doesn’t waste money on stiffs though. That’s the main difference.

I wasn't at the basketball game but the Exponent is reporting that the paint crew was chanting fire walters. They showed an email that you can't do that or you may be banned. So much for the 1st amendment.
Yeh, that's a bunch of BS by whoever authorized that email to go out. That's a potential lawsuit

Cignettis makes $250K more than Walters.......
That’s the myth that I hate. Walters was seemingly the only guy who would take the job and we paid him what a first time coach in conference usually gets.

We didn’t intentionally cheap out. We paid the guy who would take it the going rate.

Now…does an $8mil coaches salary fix our coaching issue? Not if it’s to Walters or the wrong guy but if you can double a good BIG12 or ACC coaches $4mil salary to come here then I think it’s money worth spending that we could spend and they couldn’t.

Money talks. If you have to pay someone like....Norvell, for example, $8-9M,. then that's the going rate for a P5 HC. No fan or alum should give 2 craps about what we pay a coach on the high end. It has zero impact on them financially unless they're personally funding the coaches salary.

I still maintain that Norvell isnt going anywhere. Not after 1 bad year.

My FSU alumni friend felt the same way. But, it's hard going from being a NC hopeful to having the same record at PU and getting blown out several times in the process. FSU's season is eerily similar to Purdue's (except for the expectations).

And except for Norvell has been a successful head coach in the past.

Agreed. He had a solid run at Memphis and at FSU except for this year. Will be interesting to see what happens with him.
Bad QB choice messed up the locker room. Lost several NFL guys and replaced them with high pay but low output guys. Norvell is a proven coach…gotta give him 1 more roll of the dice IMO.

Can we trade Walters and his contract for Norvell and his contract? Maybe Walters could be a $4 million a year defensive analyst for them.

This article also makes it sound like he's getting more than what he was expecting initially. Maybe because he's shown that he's a good coach, putting together an amazing season so, fans and alumni are actually willing to put their support behind the program? I have no doubt Purdue would see the same type of bump if they were to make a good hire.

They could have asked for the paint crew to be respectful and not chant "Fire Walters." Then they screwed it up with a threat. That will probably only increase the chanting. Just shows this AD has to go first, he is maybe even more clueless than anyone in that Athletic department.

Then why did the preseason rankings all have us dead last?

No the talent isn't "extremely similar."

IU also brought a lot more talent in than us because they spent the money to do it. They spent the money on an established coach, and a staff, and the players.

The idea that "all" we have to do is just go find another Cignetti is, I don't have polite words for it.
We were deaf last because there was no change of the oc or dc... I mean walters took over dc calling mid year last season and Harrell had the most anemic air raid I have ever seen.

These guys aren't studs they were obvious duds.

What got you excited about a 4 win purdue squad with the same leadership?

Or the only way to actually get them to stop is to ask Painter if he would say something to the Paint

Or if I was AD and wanting the "Fire Walters" chant to stop, I would ask Painter if he would ask the Paint crew not to do it. I would think the Paint Crew would do anything Painter asked and nothing Bobinski asks.
