We've seen him play well and we've seen him get "tired" very quickly. Matt's talked about his conditioning, and he certainly knows every inch of that. BUT i also see a seemingly high motor, high strung guy that seems to over adrenalize and play a bit "frantic" and with the usual result of quick exhaustion. Maybe even more than Berg, the game is happening very quickly and he's using a lot of energy on non productive movements and over reactions.
Probably pretty clear that I like Caleb and he's doing some good things for the team. But his inability to finish at the rim is hurting us. And seems to be developing into a "thing" with him. Certainly defenses are all over it if he gets it low. We need another post player that can operate to give Trey a break and let him float out a bit. Defensively Caleb is our best post defender, but Raleigh will be good in time.
i guess I'm hoping he starts getting regular minutes with the goal of having him be a factor off the bench by tourney time. Trey and Caleb may well be our best "big" lineup this year, but there's going to be game where we need to play big and 1 or both of them pick up fouls.
Im not down on Will, but the teams that give us the most trouble seem to be smaller and quicker in general, at least so far. I think he'll have some games where he's a factor.

If the issue is really conditioning, I would think that could be addressed to a significant extent even in season with some interval work on days where there are no immediate games coming up. I improved my conditioning pretty rapidly at that age.

Burgess may have conditioning problems. I am not sure, but I do know he just needs to get more game exposure before he will be ready to play any significant minutes in games like Ole Miss. He will get there. We need him, because Berg is not the answer.

It’s early he needs to develop and let the speed come to him. And get conditioned. By end of year you hope he makes big strides. We will also play bigger teams and we will need him. We won’t be able to get away with Heide at the 4 as much as we did the past 3 games.
I’m not so sure. Just like we will have to adjust, so will they. They will need to have their big guy guard Heide and pretty sure they won’t be able to keep up. So it’ll be interesting to see how we counter with two bigs on the other team. Worked well against Bama but they don’t play defense 😂 so against teams like IU (they don’t play defense either or rebound), Michigan, Nebraska etc that play with two 6’9+ guys in the front court, we may need to do some adjusting.

THAT is why I'm hesitant to think that's the whole story. Even just from preseason conditioning to now he's done a ton of running and you'd think be in decent shape by now (yes, yes, matter of degrees of fitness) even if he wasn't prepared when he got here. ???

He was not prepared to play when he got to Purdue, and now he is wasting a year of eligibility. What makes anyone think that he will get minutes next year, with most everyone back. Will he waste the first two years at Purdue? Yep. 🤨

Furst will be gone and who knows about Berg

Furst gone and he will be better than Berg…so it’ll be TKR, Heide, DJ and Burgess. Burgess is going to be good. Game is a bit fast now and he needs to adjust. He had two surgeries in HS. He broke his leg last year, but the talent is there. Trust in coach B and Paint.

here's my 2 cents, after last year's title game I said give Furst the talk ( couple guys said that's cruel and it's not Paint's style) but I'd look for a 6'8 or 6'9 guy from a mid major w/ a scoring ave of 11 to 13/gm. so this yr Burgess could have RS, Berg a ? mark and DJ would get plenty of minutes. So now this yr we got 3 schollies tied up w/ Furst, Berg, and Burgess which will cost us in games vs teams w/ size. Burgess will be a good player though

I don’t see that as an issue. Furst will free up his scholarship soon enough and Purdue has plenty of other guys if Berg never establishes himself in the rotation. The thing about scholarships is that only 8-9 players can be in the rotation so you are going to have depth players who seldom see the court. You keep bringing in program guys and reward the guys who develop with playing time.

luv the way Paint does things w/ program guys etc, just saying I thought after last year you can see what you got w/ Furst after 3 yrs. Use the portal ala Mich to upgrade the Bigs in our case just needing one.

We have plenty of other wings, we do not have plenty of other 4/5 type players. It's tough to believe Berg is going to be able to play at this level. Of course, he could prove that wrong, but current info suggests not.

We have TKR, Heide, Jacobsen and Burgess for next season. That's assuming TKR doesn't catch the eye of an NBA team and Burgess is ready to play significant minutes next season.

That's a team one injury away from serious issues inside. So even if you think all four are stud super future NBA possible players, you'd still like a fifth year versatile big transfer both in case all the best case scenarios don't pan out or an injury happens.

Furst will be gone. If Will doesn't get better it will be Trey, DJ and Raleigh up front. If DJ isn't fully recovered he could be playing big minutes. Next year. His minutes this year will serve what could be a FInal 4 type team next year.

Ppl keep thinkin these 6’8-6’9 athletic, double digit scorers that are ok with being the 6-9th guy off the bench and 5th-9th scoring option are just dying to join a P5 school.
