Biggie and Barnes

Regardless of the outcome, Swanigan is checked out of the "Purdue Student Athlete" mold and his only goal is to prove he belongs in the league...is that good if he comes back? I don't know, but I'm afraid his personal goals will out weigh team goals and we've all seen how that ends....at this point I'm indifferent with his return...give me more Mathias, V Edwards, Haas, and Smotherman, These are the type of players I want to invest my time and energy in come bball season!

This is spot freaking on. I'm past the indifferent stage. He's already shown me enough that I don't want him back. I want players dedicated to each other with a common goal of making the Boilers the best they can possibly be. BTFU

Some of the comments on this board are beyond ridiculous. Painter can't recruit. Painter can't take Purdue "to the next level" because he can't get the talent required. Painter can't get 5* players.

Swanigan was a Top10-level 5* recruit and yet some people on here bitch that he's looking to go pro. He nearly led the league in rebounding as a true FR and averaged close to 10 ppg. He was a first team All-BIG FR. Yet some people said he underachieved last year.

With Swanigan Purdue is a legit Top-15 team next season (anywhere from a 2 to a 5 seed) and without him Purdue will be an 8 to a 10 seed. There is no question that Purdue is a better team with Biggie next year than without him,

best power forward in college ball? i like caleb but he sure was not the best 4 in college. he still needs a lot of work on defense, especially foot speed. he got swatted way too many times underneath, too many turn overs, fell in love at times with the 3. great rebounder , inconsistent scorer, we were a better team against certain lineups with him on the bench. i know he wants the nba but not sure he is ready but no matter what we think, if the nba calls he is gone.

I think he's a bit slow.

Quoting the article posted below:
Today on The Dan Dakich Show, host Dan Dakich stated that a reliable contact has told him "Swanigan would rather play in the D-League than come back to Purdue."

Exponent stretched what Dakich actually said. Don't believe he said a "reliable" contact. In fact he went out of his way to explain this "reliable" contact randomly introduced himself to Dakich recently.

Dakich did say the guy provided enough info for him to believe that he is legitimately connected to bball in Fort Wayne. Whether its true.... Dakich said he had no idea.

Keep in mind Barnes is skilled at PR and likes to control the message. Dakich likely got the message that Barnes wants out there right now. Never show your cards....until you have to ....is how Barnes has operated in the past.

Guess it's time for this (again)...

I would like to seem him return for one more season just to see how much he can improve and make the team better. After that, I think I'm ready for him to leave. I've never heard him talk about the team, teammates, or the college experience at Purdue. All I've ever noticed him talking about is his game and himself. That comes off as having a put-myself-before-the-team attitude. The game is supposed to be bigger than one's self.

Agree that I would love for him to come back. Like others have said he is a 5* and has the 5* mentality and it is to be expected if this is the type of recruit that we need to win.

However like you also said, a "me first" attitude (again it is how he SHOULD be thinking if he wants to be in the NBA) can be detrimental to a team. It's a double-edged sword IMO .. and no I'm not "complaining" .. I am like you though, he can elevate his game and improve and make himself a first rounder while not disrupting the team. And no.. I am by no means suggesting if he returns he would do that, it's just a general comment.
