I agree, although I'd argue it's less about choice and more about a deep understanding of one's personal identity. This isn't done willy-nilly. Regardless, I'm glad we've come to an understanding.
Unicorn is not a gender, so this is irrelevant, but your argument seems to be "you can identify however you want, but I'm still allowed to be a dick about it." Which, I guess, you're right. You're allowed to be as much of a dick as you want to be. But, that's you on an individual level. The trans rights issue is about how people are treated by the institutions of a society. Individuals are allowed to be racist -- they're ALSO being dicks if they are -- but they're not allowed to, for instance, deny someone a job because of that person's race.
In these four sentences, you've used "they" or "their" as a singular 4 times. So I guess you don't have a problem with it after all. Also, I don't believe you'd ever do anything to stop a trans person going into the restroom that you've decided is the wrong one for them, even if you knew some random person about to walk in there was trans. What are you going to do, set up a genital checking station outside the restroom until your daughters come back out? Trans people have been using the restroom they want forever, long before the Republicans started fear-mongering that they were SA-ing people all the time in there, have you EVER tried to stop someone? It's not hard to understand, it's just wrong, because the roles of "man" and "women" as they relate to gender are socially-constructed. They are not biologically determined nor inherent, as evidenced by the fact that other societies have existed (and still exist) that have different concepts of gender.
Why can't I say "race and gender aren't the same thing?" Because race and gender AREN'T the same thing, except inasmuch as race (or at least differences in skin tone) is also representative of variation within the species.

Ok, cool, so you've determined a number based specifically on the number of intersex people and you have now taken the position that, based on that number, society should not concern itself with the issues intersex people face. But, based on this number, you have also taken the position that we should consider transgender people, who make up (conservatively) 0.5%, and perhaps as high as 1.6% (Pew Research study). Progress, I suppose.

I've not pushed back on your personal belief. I've asked what you think SOCIETY should do with the question of, for instance, whether someone should be allowed to deny a job to a transgender person on the basis of them being transgender. But it is interesting that you claim to "know" what's going on inside another person's head with regards to their own personal identity. I don't know how you could possibly ever know that.

I didn't say gender was a third world phenomenon. I said that there may be societies where gender is viewed very differently than they are in most first world countries. But, that doesn't make them right. Just like they're probably not right on a lot of things, which is why they stay as third world.

First-world countries having a particular view doesn't make them right, either, though, right? Like, economic success and, for instance, immorality are not mutually-exclusive. Hypothetically, can third-world countries be right about something that first-world countries are wrong about, despite the two countries' respective economic status?

Third world countries remain that way for a reason if they were better at decision-making, they’d get out of the third world. Sure, they may do a few things differently, perhaps even better than first world countries, but this are few and far between.
And the reason, for many of them, couldn't be the exploitation of their resources by the west, could it? Regardless, I don't quite see a connection between gender concepts and economic success of a country, nor does it seem to track historically. Native Americans recognized two-spirit people, is that why they were conquered? Or was it because of European colonialism coupled with better technology? Or would you propose that Europeans had better technology BECAUSE they maintained a binary gender standard? This whole idea seems to be conflating things that are unrelated, and thus, irrelevant.

I understand your point, I just think it's a correlation/causation fallacy. I don't think gender concept has anything at all to do with economic success, so this argument doesn't support that one particular gender concept is "better" than another.
So, even though you have no reason in particular to believe someone might engage in these behaviors, you would avoid hiring someone with differing political beliefs just in case? You KNOW a republican won't ask you to respect their pronouns (although, I bet if you were to continually call a cisgender man "she," that'd be a problem for that person, same as it would a transgender person), so you'll hire them, but you're not willing to be respectful to a democrat, so better to just not hire them.

People in wheelchairs don't choose to be in wheelchairs. Being trans is not a protected class or a disability (although that's debatable from a mental perspective).
That's drag, not trans. I often see drag, trans, and intersex get conflated in these types of discussions, but they are different things. Tyler Perry playing the character Medea is drag. That doesn't make him trans. Someone born with XX chromosomes and a penis (for example) is intersex. That's not the same thing as trans, either, though I'd be interested to hear how you would classify that person's gender -- and I hope that you'd understand how that person might not identify with the societal role of "man," despite having male genitalia, given how other aspects of their genetics or epigenetics might be more in line with that of females.
Yup, you could. Private stalls and all. Seems to work in literally everyone's home. What's the issue? But, the simpler solution would be just to let people use their preferred restroom. The women's restroom already has private stalls, and trans women are not going in there to bother anyone. I mean, cis men are already not allowed in there, right (even if trans women are)? Does that mean that cis men never assault people in women's restrooms? Does banning men from women's restrooms prevent someone who wants to do harm in a women's restroom from doing so?
People who are trans don't choose to be trans (see science), though I'll admit that it IS a choice whether, and to what extent, one transitions. It's not a protected class, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be. And, once again, someone who is transgender is not claiming to be the "opposite sex," because sex and gender are not the same thing.
That employee has no justification for claiming a hostile work environment based on this scenario, just as they wouldn't for any other suggestion they'd make that you'd reject. You are not, and have never been, obligated to implement every suggestion of your employees.
Really seems like your priority is making YOUR job easier, not on hiring the best people and then providing them the best environment to succeed.
