Better recruiting assistants

There seems to be a thought out there that he might have been a fall guy for that and it wasn't entirely his fault. Even so, we're 20 years removed. If they deem him worthy of a position somewhere down the line, I won't be critical of it. For mistakes of that nature, a second chance is often warranted and I think 20 years is more than enough time to have earned it if they want him.
He absolutely was a fall guy for that, and it most certainly was not entirely his fault...that said, he made a horrible error in judgment by lying about a ride that should not have even been an issue, and compounded it by asking the player to lie as well.

All of that aside, Frank is not a guy now that would be a significant factor any longer...he was at the time, and he was as good a recruiter as Purdue has ever had (which is what lead to the problems that he/Purdue had actually).

I disagree. I think Frank could still recruit his tail off. It's like riding a bike for that guy.

He would certainly try, no doubt about that...and he is tremendous not just with the prospective recruits, but their families and other pertinent parties (which is as important, if not more so)...but, I just don't believe that he could/would have the impact today that he did when he was one of the best that there was at what he did. It used to be an event when Frank entered a gym...he knew virtually everyone, and he spent time shaking hands and talking to all of them...he was like a politician, shaking hands, kissing babies, hugs for all.

One of my favorite people and a great person and friend...and more a Purdue person than just about anyone.

Recruiting is about building relationships with players, coaches and families, and I have no doubt he can still do that.

I would concede that he may not be able to put in the same amount of hours that he once did, so they would have to be selective about where they sent him, keep him local, etc.

Good points about Frank. I have been on a plane a couple times where he got on and the place just lit up. He was approachable and very sincere. Had same opportunity with Bruce Weber once and he was totally opposite.

Interesting about Bruce Weber. I have a friend who played at Illinois and often attends functions. When Bruce was at Illinois I attended several functions with him and met and spoke with Bruce a number of times. I found him very friendly and cordial as well as pleasant about Purdue.
