Don't you think the recruiting class for 2017 has to be impressed with our top ten ranking? I would only think this would benefit Purdue. Now if we can keep it up and make some noise come March.

Recruiting is typically a long term process. Coaches know kids for years leading up to a commitment. So to pop into the top 10 one week in December will not typically make dramatic changes in anything.

Obviously it does not hurt, as you mention, but just as recruiting is long term, your success has to be more than a blip on the radar.

Also, recruits are looking at their own personal situation. They're not gonna play with AJ Hammons and Raphael Davis. This is why it was hard to recruit with the "Baby Boilers" class - you had 3 guys who basically cemented themselves as 4 year starters at 3 different positions. Hard to sell playing time.

The 2017 class should have some opportunities for playing time though. Hammons and Davis will be gone so their spots open up. A center coming in should be able to split time with Haas. A talented sf/ sg coming in should be able to take over Davis spot. If they are good enough they should get some playing time.
Also, good point about the recruiting process being long term. I was just thinking that the 2017 kids will be thinking "wow, look at what Purdue is doing. I want to be apart of that".

You know what would really help with recruiting? If I wasn't getting emails from Purdue athletics several times a week encouraging me to buy tickets for the Vanderbelt game. Really folks? We can't sell this game out? We still haven't sold out B1G games!!
I quit giving away my season tickets this year. I figure if people don't want to take the time to watch these guys play then it is not my job to convince them. If you are reading this and you have not yet been to a game to watch in person, you are missing out my friends. This is the best offensive Purdue team I have watched in person. The '09-'10 team simply refused to lose and locked down on D when they had a bad night. This team always has someone hitting on offense and can also play D. Buy a freaking ticket and go cheer. If I was a recruit and witnessed an atmosphere like the West Virginia game a few years ago, I would commit on the spot.

I'm not sure what you mean by this... so you gave your tickets away when the team wasn't that great, and now you keep them for yourself when the team is good? Or now your tickets, when you don't go, just go unused and look empty on TV?

You can give your Maryland tickets to me.. I don't need any convincing to go, just a ticket.

One recruiting area where it could help a lot IMO is with 5th year grad transfers for 2016-17. Any 7-footers out there eligible to do that should be looking at Purdue & thinking... Hmmm... AJ Hammons is graduating... I could slide right into that center rotation, get B1G exposure, and potentially be on a FF or even NC team... I might just have to look into that.

Could happen - how cool would that be?

Stephens will also be gone by the time the '17 kids get here. So that's 3 key players leaving that opens up a lot of minutes.

I love Mathias and Thompson, but I don't think any of the 2017 recruits will be afraid to compete with them.

And Painter can tell recruits that it may be likely Haas doesn't return for his senior year. Overall I think Purdue's in a very good position.

That could be very true. Purdue may go after a 5th year player for next season. Who wouldn't want to come to Purdue?

If you want to give your tickets away, I'll take then every time!!! I can't afford games being a teacher AND going through a divorce tbh.

Painter is still recruiting for 2016. It can help a lot there.

Well guys, I'm not a teacher...but my divorce was very costly!
I'm not a teacher either and I am less than two months into my divorce as well after over 36 and a half years of marriage. i don't think there is such a thing as a cheap divorce.

Letting seats set empty? Sir, you insult me! :)
I moved to Fort Wayne (2 hr drive) from Indy (1 hr drive) last year so it is hard to make it to campus 26 times per year - and I sure as hell am not getting any takers on football tickets! I always gave away a few pairs each year and I would ask different people at work, friends, neighbors, ect. I am just tired of the excuses. We get home too late, my daughter has volleyball practice (not a game, practice. I'm sure she will not end up on Dr. Phil if you miss watching a practice.) So now I just grab my 4 year old and jump in the car and head down. Sometimes I just go by myself during the week and leave one seat empty. This team deserves a full arena every night.
It frustrates me that I was still getting emails to buy tickets for the Michigan state game after the season started. As fans, I feel we can do better. We finally have the team we have wanted the past few years, let's get to the arena.
Sorry for the plight of some of the gentlemen on here. I will probably go to all of the B1G games, but if something comes up I will offer up tickets here. Anyone else in the FW area?
