Bardo said He thinks Purdue could get to the second week....

If we get referees willing to allow physical defense within the rules, then we're going to shock some teams who don't have experience with our level of defensive intensity.

If we get referee who whistle every hint of contact and head fakes, we'll have our work cut out for us.

There is a lot of truth to this. The cheap whistles this season have really seemed to disrupt how Purdue/we play.

I think if the games are called close we could benefit on the inside. Most of the physical games in the Big were inside pounding our bigs because that was the only way they could play against us. AJ seems to have finally learned how to play defense without fouling.

There's a reason the saying "defense wins championships" exists. Defense is something you can always rely on. You're not always going to be "on" offensively. Of course, if you hit a hot shooting team, whether you play great defense or not, then it is on your offense to come through. And that's why Purdue won't go significantly far. We're not quite there offensively.

If they can improve execution/finish a little stronger I can buy Purdue as a great sleeper this year. In my mind I can put this just as easily on offensive efficiency, shooting, and smart fouls.

Looks like you have this team nailed accurately. This team could get ousted quickly due to running into a hot shooting team or with the right draw they could go far; heck Wisky in 2000 went to a FF with a similar defensive minded team....get the right draw and you never know.

IMO, both Bardo and Shon Morris are good commentators and have been very fair - even complimentary - toward Purdue this year.

As for getting to the second weekend, we have to get into the tournament first. Winning Friday would just about guarantee it. I agree that advancing in the tournament probably depends as much on match-ups as on seed or location.

I just listened to some guy from the BIG network say he only likes 3 teams, the obvious 2 and Iowa. Didn't give us any love. It was during the DD show but Dakich wasn't there.

If we're playing UVA in that round, that means we're an 8 or 9 seed at this point. Either UVA has to lose their first ACC game or Purdue's got to go deep in the BTT for that to happen.

It would really be dumb to not pick this team as a sleeper simply because we will be a better team than our seeding due to some early season troubles. If you just look at conference play, including how we battled Wisconsin and msu/OSU on the road, we wouldn't be an 11 or 10 seed.
