B10 weak conference

1 team left I think? B1G flops again in the NCAAT.

Will the coaches ever get with the commissioner and clean up the MMA rugbyball? Talent and style of play is damaged and resultant ball does not translate to tourney.
Was just thinking the same thing - bad league and not athletic. Just watched Miami’s guards - unbelievably quick. We need to change tactics completely.

It is a harder sell to get top 30 guards & wings to come to B10 where night in & night out it's MMA. Sure a few come. But most don't and that's why B10 has only had like 7-8 teams in the final game in the last 23 years.

I've poked fun at Mr. Izzo from time to time, but the guy is a hall-of-famer....and you have to tip your cap to the way he gets his team to perform in the NCAA Tournament (even though they did not look too good in the BTT) - thought they did get some good match-ups for them, but it seems they are almost always a tough out no matter where they are seeded.

Penn State played pretty well, IMO - even though they did not survive the first weekend....dispatched a pretty good Texas A & M team and gave Texas all they could handle for a while. Northwestern also gave UCLA a good fight too.

If I had to wager right now, I'd pick the MIDWEST Regional winner (Seeds 1, 2, 3, and 5 left) v. Alabama in the Championship game..........but there's still a lot of games left.

Man, I wish I could show my text before the tournament. My buddy asked me why I only had 1 team in the B1G going to the S16(MSU). I said an overrated Purdue team won the conference and conference tournament. I wouldn't trust anyone that let's that happen with a young back court. I also said Izzo is the only sure bet for the B1G to get through.

This was obviously lucky, but now has become true. Just a weak conference with many holes for every team. This isn't just a Purdue problem it's a conference problem.

Is it true big ten plays with a different ball than they use in march madness tourney? If so that is massively stupid. If you look big ten teams seem to all shit the bed from 3 come tourney time

Izzo and the rest…
I’d trade Purdue’s season for MSU’s. The only thing that matters is March. Winning the B1G is meaningless, as it’s been shown again to be highly overrated. Painter needs to focus on how to get his team playing its best basketball in February-March, not in November-January.

Recency bias. Sure a win or 2 in the NCAAT is nice. But this is all about entertainment for me. The Boilers were plenty entertaining via the long conference championship by 3 games, a B10 tourny championship and a player of the year, and being ranked #1 for stretches during the season, imo.

In the tourney all but 1 team ends up defeated. All but 4 have any real glory. So unless MSU ends up a FF member, I don't think I would trade seasons to be a S16 season....no. Not sure about an E8 season....maybe??? Be surprised if MSU is an E8 though.

Tyson Walker and Joey Hauser have been good transfers for them. Both produced in this tournament.

But getting a guard like Tyson Walker transfer to transfer into your program is the shot in the arm Purdue needs badly. Walker has been phenomenal. Izzo gets that transfer done.

CMP to date has not (other than Octeus who fell in his lap real late in the fall)........and likely not going to happen again this off season as CMP is not good at all with the short sale. But so much better at the long term sale via establishing relationships.

Agree on PSU & NW. And shows 2 things. Why great older guards are needed in March and why transfer portal is so, so important.

Hope CMP can get a phenomenal guard this off season. But history is not on the side of that one.

Been saying for months, the B1G is a terrible preparation for March. Slow, plodding, grabbing, holding, pushing........

Very little variety night in and night out. 3 out of 14 teams mix up their defense, the rest you can plan on exactly what you will get.

It was a fun 3 months winning a lot of games and the conference title. But if we want different results in March, we and the conference need to change how we play.

I feel we need multiple guys that can play that style.

Recency bias. That's funny. The reason I'd trade seasons is because nothing was expected of this Purdue team. And winning the B1G isn't prestigious when the conference craps the bed every March. Getting to the S16 would have shown improvement during the season and into the tournament. It would have meant beating a higher seeded team. Something that doesn't happen under Painter. It would have been a breath of fresh air.

Bingo!! The Women's side of the conference adjusted and is playing a fast paced game that has resulted in some really good teams. As you said, how many athletic guards or wings want to come play in a slowed down rugby match? That style is tailored for Purdue, which is why we Painter can succeed in the B1G and then get his doors blown off in the Tourney.

The B1G needs to change the style of play on the Men's side. They own the officials. Work with the officials to make it happen.

Let's be real. He's too stubborn to ever try using a zone or press or trapping to change the flow of a game (Would have been great against FDU). He'll run it back with Loyer and Smith starting at guard. We're not getting anyone noteworthy in the portal unless we guarantee starting minutes.

Like I said history not on our side as far as transfers

But as far as starting how about we go with a guy who can hit a freekin 3, transfer or not.

S16 is nice. But means nothing. Read it on here several times.
Course read the same thing about conference champs?? Lol

Anyway, I take conference champ over S16 any day as it is a result of a season of entertainment. The S16 is a short weekend of entertainment. And for fans entertainment is what this is really all about. 😊

Well we’ll soon see how a Baylor or Alabama type recruiting class will do in the Big Ten. From everything I’ve seen, MSU’s incoming class is as long and as athletic as anyone’s. Coen Carr in particular, that kid is an elite leaper even by NBA standards.

The kid from Cathedral is so overrated (currently). Either Izzo unleashes his potential (it's there) or he'll be a complete bust. The kid we're getting for FB was their best basketball player this year.
