Apparently This Call Got Through On The Darrell Hazell Coach Show LOL

Caller Matt from Chicago: "Who do you think is more incompetent: You or Morgan Burke?"

Hazell: "Happy Thanksgiving"

Newton: "Classy"

Purdue Football > $$$$$$$? Either way, Purdue loses one more season, more fans, recruits, ect., ect... With a proven inferior product on the field, ticket prices should go down, right? How do you honestly sell a broken product? You don't. How do you watch & listen to an inferior product being peddled? What if Burke picks anouther deer in the headlights coach?

Well AD Burke?

Man, you really nailed him with that trailer park burn. I thought we only used that one to death on the iu mopes that lurk on here. You must have forgotten that you have to follow it up with the always hilarious and deadly zinger " I'll have fries with that"

You're late to the party. There's history on that one. But, thanks for the support and kind words.
Seriously?
Seriously?

Just the facts darlin. No self-respecting sports reporter in the nation lets a coach win 6 games in 3 years and bites their tongue.

It's ok though. We know who owns the Purdue press.

I believe that Purdue subsidizes GBI. At least that is what someone in the athletic department told me earlier this year. If that is the case, it explains alot.
With a JPC membership, you get a GBI membership, so I am sure GBI gets some type of fee per member from JPC, but I don't think they get anything from the University itself.

If this is true I would be interested in more details of the relationship between the university and this site. I was under the impression GBI was independent, but this makes sense actually. Not necessarily a bad thing, as under normal circumstances Purdue sports can use all the positive press it can get what with the mediocre coverage in the media. But we are left to read between lines it seems when things go south.

Id also be curious how GBI compares to other peer sites. Either way, whether there is actual money exchanged it appears there is some value provided to GBI in terms of access to players, coaches, and staff which one could imagine being restricted due to negative press.

I don't think I'd ask about competence (either Hazell or Burke) on a call in show.

But I would ask something like this: "Coach, I have a two-part question. You consistently tell us that you see progress on film that maybe we fans can't discern. Ok, you've just finished the worst three year stretch in the history of the program; you're 3-30 vs. FBS teams with only two conference wins in 24 tries. Purdue was blown out at home to Minnesota and Illinois teams that, on paper, you should have been able to beat. My questions are: Can you give us one concrete area in which this program is consistently better than it was three years ago? Second, Do you think it's fair for fans to say that, in year three, we need to see more than nuances on film that, by your own admission, are so subtle that most fans don't see what you see?"

Officially, there is no relationship. Unofficially, there is of course some relationship given that a subscription is a benefit extended to the folks that significantly finance athletics.

From Purdue's web site:
What is Gold & Black Illustrated?

All John Purdue Club members receive a complimentary subscription to Gold & Black Illustrated, a Purdue sports magazine published by Boilers Inc. (a company not affiliated with the Purdue Athletic Department). The magazine has 36 issues per sports season (August to June).

There are six glossy and 30 express issues delivered to members every year. Members receive their complimentary glossy editions of their Gold & Black Illustrated subscription via mail and receive the online express issues by email.
