Anyone know much about Creighton's Steve Lutz?

Great hire. Got a lot of great players to Creighton including upcoming lottery pick Justin Patton

I've been at Creighton for a few years now and Justin Patton was going to Creighton as long as he was offered which he literally committed on on the spot when he was. He is from North Omaha and simply going to Creighton from that area is a big deal according to some of my students who are from there. I have talked to some of my co-workers about him since they weren't aware yet and they seemed legitimately bummed that he left. Their recruiting class for next year is pretty good too with some guys who aren't from around the area except for one guy from Kansas. Other than that I have not heard much about him.

Looks like a terrific hire to me! Bobinski seems to get what Burke never quite figured out - it all starts with recruiting. I know this hire is Painter's, but you are seeing interesting recruiting developments across the various sports.

I saw Bobinski in line at Payless on the West Side last night (at least I thought it was him). I almost went over, shook his hand, and thanked him for understanding what it truly means to be competitive and how much that meant to all Boilermakers. It is nice to see a man who understands what is needed but isn't willing to compromise on what makes Purdue a great academic university.

That's laying it on kind of thick. Let's just call it like it is. People are happy that he fired Hazell. That said, if the program isn't in a better place in 2-3 year those same people will be calling him an idiot and trashing the Brohm hire. It's so transparent. In fact, it was what some people here were praising Burke for when he fired Hope and spent more money to get Hazell.

I hope he is all those things you mentioned but there's much left to see and the same people that are singing his praises now will turn on him in a heartbeat if things don't go as well as we all hope they will at this point.

He has said so himself in numerous interviews that he knows Purdue can be competitive with its' peers without sacrificing the core beliefs of what makes Purdue a great university...on the other hand you had Burke who stated that he was all knowing and knew Hazell would show everyone they were wrong and he was right.

1. Words are cheap.
2. Burke couldn't fire Hazell. He had no choice but to support him and just hope for the best. Just more proof that words are cheap.

Justin Patton wasn't a 5-star recruit but he played like one for Creighton this past season.

It seems like a good hire. I don't know if he was the best they could possibly get, but he's probably close to it.

Didn't 4* big man lalum's own Epperson sign with Creighton? I'll bet he's pssed now !

So, is Brandon Brantley staying on the staff or is he considering following Owens to Miami (OH)?

Matt Painter, Steve Lutz, Greg Gary, and Brandon Brantley?

I see a couple Brian Bowen tweets on his page. It looks like he was recruiting him at Creighton. Maybe he can convince him to come to Purdue.

Would be interesting but not sure where he fits in. He is a 3 so he would have a lot of competition to get playing time.

Did get me thinking - who else were they recruiting at Creighton for 2018? Checked 247 and VerbalCommits - there are some decent players they have extended offers too.

They were also after Tyger Campbell with LaLum (19). Maybe he can help open the door to that pipeline of talent they bring in.

Eastern didn't want to play with Bowen in high school (apparently didn't get along). I know Bowen's a talented player, but I feel like with that past experience of Eastern and him not wanting to play together, that he could hurt some of the team chemistry that next season's team should have in place. I'm all for a 5-star player but they need to be able to somewhat fit into the team's game-plans as well. I'm not sure Bowen would fit that description, especially with the prior history with Eastern.

That's right - I forgot about that

Good news indeed............now I feel a bit better about this situation. Welcome aboard Coach Lutz!

Anymore to the story about them not getting along? Was there a certain incident that was public knowledge about the two?

Again, not true. Burke could have easily fired Hazell after year 1 or 2. Retrospectively it is so obvious Hazell was in over his head. Had Burke had the balls to ask for someone to peek around the program that understands what needs to be occurring, that would have happened. Being a good leader means owning up to your mistakes and correcting them. Burke didn't do that at all and rather spoke out claiming he knew he would be right...pretty much the total opposite of a good AD and leader.
