In all honesty, wouldn't it be just like ND to do that? A total knee jerk reaction that leads to some success only to see the guy falter as he establishes his own plan? Hasn't that kind of been what has happened at ND since they hired Bob Davie in 1997? Good success early on and then fired?
Bob Davie 1997 - 2001
George O'Leary disaster hire
Ty Willingham 2002 - 2004
Charlie Weis 2005 - 2009
Brian Kelly - 2010 - current
It would fall actually right in line with what has occurred at ND since Holtz left after a string of success over 10 years. In fact, 1953 and the end of the Frank Leahy era, only two coaches have made it more than 5 years (Holtz & Ara Parsegian). Firing Kelly, in that regard, makes perfect sens.
