And the real UL fans show their true colors...

You guys were right. We were wrong. One thing I’ve learned from this is that you can never trust inside sources.

I truly believe that Brohm can win a national championship at Purdue. If you guys are consistently reeling in top 25 classes, you all will be on the national stage in no time.

I hope you guys will grow to understand how painful this is for some of our fans, including myself. Especially the OP. We mean no ill will towards Brohm or Purdue. People always act out and say things they don’t mean in the heat of the moment I guess. We know how valuable Jeff is.

You guys better treasure him. Good luck.

Louisville leadership has some soul searching on what it wants the athletics to be. Schnellenberger was right all along - Louisville should have remained Independent...I would start there.

That's what I've been saying all along. Brohm was in a no win situation on this.

Agree he got put in a bad position here, but I disagree it was no win. IMHO, CJB created his own monster here. Had he said ~3 weeks ago "I appreciate the interest that UL has shown in me potentially becoming its next football coach, but I am not interested in the head coaching vacancy at UL; however, I have incredible memories about my and my family's time at UL and will of course do what I can to assist in its search process" this would not have gotten to this point.

As I have noted on the pay side on a couple of threads, CJB's belief that all publicity is good publicity is going to come back to bite him in the backside, and I think he and his family are getting a taste of that tonight. I am not saying it is fair or right and some of the vitriol that is coming out of UL is beyond the pale; however, hopefully this serves as a lesson to CJB about playing with fire and letting this fester for ~3 weeks. Had he shut this down ~3 weeks ago, no doubt that the UL fans would have been upset, but his playing footsie for ~3 weeks added fuel to the fire.

How do you know he made a decision 3 weeks ago? And BTW, Brohm doesn't owe Louisville ANYTHING.

This is long, so sue me if you don't like it.

I completely disagree with your assessment above. It is not Jeff Brohm's responsibility to stamp out rampant, and wildly unsubstantiated speculation about his future - especially since there was no offer on the table.

If you review everything he has said from the moment Petrino was fired, his comments were truthful and respectful. The fact that UL's fan base made the conscious decision to leap to conclusions and initiate an over-the-top welcome home party while running amok over here with childish taunts and insults is not Brohm's fault.

OTOH, UL's fans could have tempered their enthusiasm at the idea of Brohm returning home and postponed their wild street party until an offer was actually extended and accepted. But no, so many of those fans had to build an entire house of cards based upon reading between the lines on everything he said, as well as upon the outright lies promulgated by all the self-thought "insiders" in their camp.

And then, when all this taunting and running around with their collective hair on fire did not pan out according to the prescribed narratives, you have the gall to blame Brohm???

Really?

Look I sympathize that UL's "favorite son" chose to honor his original commitment and remain the coach at Purdue, rather than return home leaving unfinished business at a program to which he had brought hope, and thereby reducing it to shambles. That hypocrisy would have dealt a fatal blow to his credibility as a coach considering all the times he had preached the gospel of finishing what you start.

But few, if any, of the UL people took that into account - that Jeff Brohm might actually be a man of honor, honesty, and integrity who would be sincerely troubled by the tradeoff between loyalty to his alma mater vs. honoring a commitment he had already made.

No, UL's fans were so enthralled that he would be the ultimate salve for their pain from their one terrible season amongst the many successful ones their program has enjoyed recently - a fact so many of those so-called fans expounded upon ad nauseam around here - that they ignored the careful and reasoned responses Brohm made throughout the process that clearly indicated his likely decision.

Look, if I had been in their shoes, I likely would have been excited at the idea as well. But folks around here have been in a similar boat before - having our expectations raised but ultimately seeing them dashed, over and over and over. And over. That they chose to come over here and dump on us, a fan base finally getting a brief respite from our former administrations' continued failures to rebuild our proud tradition, clearly illustrates their collective lack of sensitivity and self-discipline to wait until they actually had something to cheer about.

Sorry, after several weeks of those people infesting this board with their loud and obnoxious behavior, I cannot muster any requisite sympathy for UL's predicament, nor can I find the least reason to be critical of how Jeff Brohm handled this entire affair.

As many of us around here - who are better people than I am - have said, you are welcome to visit and engage in thoughtful debate, but pardon me, I am not yet ready to roll out the welcome mat after the insufferable performance that UL fans have doled out over here.

Good luck to the UL program in the future, and perhaps their fan base will eventually learn the lesson you are trying to project upon OUR coach.

I understand your perspective, and agree it could have been handled better from a fan's perspective. Respectfully disagree. At these times, head coaches compartmentalize. Most don't care what's going on or being said on internet forums.

Let's take a scenario:
Brohm continues to build Purdue into a national contender (it's happening before our very eyes).
UofL hires a solid coach, puts them back on solid ground in the ACC.
Said UofL coach moves on after 4-6 (or "X") years.
UofL AD handles the transition professionally and appropriately that time around, and Brohm and UofL AD have conversations. Brohm decides to move back.
UofL fans will welcome him with open arms.
People have short memories.

Yeah man, I think Vince Tyra really overplayed his hand on this one. His inexperience AD is showing. Believe me, Purdue fans feel your pain. We have had our share of football adversity.

There are those on the U of L Forum that are wanting BP back as coach....
Try that one on.....

Thank you for being one of the voices of reason on here the past couple weeks with all the speculation being thrown around. I was another one who chose to trust Brohm, a man of integrity, and give him the benefit of the doubt until he provided a clear reason not to. He didn't owe anybody but his team, his family, and his recruits a single word about Louisville as he was coaching his team down the critical stretch of the season. He is very wise not to breath oxygen onto rumors. And he never once did or said anything to indicate that his focus was on anything but beating the next team on the schedule. He has been extremely consistent in all of this.

With that said, what you said about UofL fans unfortunately needs to be absorbed by some of our fellow Purdue fans as well. I saw too much reading between the lines, negative speculation, and questioning of Brohm's character the past two weeks. I hope this is a lesson for some. As I've said before, in times like these let's rally behind our own and save the venom for our enemies. The first thing I thought upon hearing the news last night was I'm glad I don't have to walk back anything I said about Jeff Brohm and I'm glad I didn't add any fuel to the fire.

I thought....as you told me on your other thread... YOU NEVER WENT OVER to our board. You just continue to show your hypocrisy and your ass. Had Coach Jeff Brohm left Purdue, there would have been people in this board lost in their emotions and prob even saying some rude things. Bob, try to have enough of a social imagination to get that. Good luck expanding your mind! :)
And IF Christmas was in July we would be decorating fu*$$ing palm trees....
How many schools in our area would suffer bomb scares over the loss of a football coach......NONE!! Good luck with you and yours growing the hell up...
As one poster mentioned, JB knows where all of the U of L bodies are buried and he wanted nothing to do with it.
Jurich provided your school with football success by hiring a scum bag coach and not a Saint "his words".... That has hurt your program more than you and your want to realize........

Respectfully, it ain't about the "OP."

It's about what the Purdue fans have endured . . . on their OWN FORUM . . . over the past 2 weeks.

It's been complete and utter bullsh*t, what's occurred here.

I get that you're disappointed, and I would be, as well.

Thanks for the positive comments, and good luck with your search.

Not just here, but anywhere. Make a post on almost any social media platform, especially Twitter, and nut jobs came out of the wood work to make derogatory remarks and trash our prestigious university. While I didn't want to lose Brohm, I could deal with that, what I couldn't deal with was the need to make derogatory remarks towards a University I love. I've dealt with it enough that I'm perfectly fine saying that I would not be sad to see UL burn in hell, but have enough class that I'm not going to run to UL message board to say it.

From the 247 Card March board, which is in total meltdown right now...

"Jeff Who?"

"He has let us down."

"Glad to know that he loves Louisville so much that he used us for recruiting hype. Bridge has been burned."

"I never really wanted him anyway. :)"

"Just an awful decision. Hope he knows what damage hes done to his status here."

"I want him AND his family to never be comfortable in this city again. Move all their asses to West Lafayette. Seriously, I never want to hear the name "Brohm" again. **** him AND the entire Brohm family."

"I know i will get over it later....but F him for now"

"Sorry, but Jeff Brohm sucks."

"Oh well. See ya jeff. Oh and JD you can take the first family stuff off now. If he really was he would've come home"

"What a prik."

"Piss on him AND his ideal timing. He'll never get the opportunity again, and I hope he never sets foot in this city again."

"I was never sold on this in the first place being a great plan. The guy hasn't earned the kind of money yet to prove he was worth it. We can do better."

"Let’s be real, Brohm has not shown anything to deserve the hype he’s getting. He’s a 6-6 coach in the lousy Big Ten division."

"Right now.. He's dead to me!"

"He is a pussy....oh well"

"Vince does not have to explain anything. Jeff turned his back on us. I do not want him to ever get a chance to coach here in the future either. Hope they lose their bowl game by 100 points"

"Wow, stunning. What an absolute stab in the back of his hometown and alma mater. Burn that bridge, Jeff."

And on and on and on...

With that kind of "fan support" just under the surface, who in their right mind would EVER want to coach there? But then, Jeff probably knew that.

Enjoy your misery, UL fans. You've earned every minute of it.
I enjoyed all of your posts throughout this drama, and thanks for this one.

We're not making this up.

The high school Purdue football coach Jeff Brohm attended in Louisville is closed Thursday after someone made threats when he decided to turn down the Louisville coaching job.
