An example of how Purdue posters and writers seek truth above all else, even erring against purdue

in the matchup preview, GBI gives our defense the edge against their rush, their offense the edge when passing. Their defense gets the edge against our rush and then...

Eeeeeek (brakes screeching) our pass offense against their pass defense is ... even???!

That sounds awesome, except when nothing objectively supports that.

NCAA.com has us with the 7th best passing offense in the nation.

Ohio state’s rank in pass yards allowed? 59th!

Not even. No matter how charitable one wants to be. We will rip off a lot of yards in this game.

Indiana passed for 322 yards on Ohio State with the 52nd best pass offense in the nation...

Gotta keep your passer upright and give him time to take advantage of their passing D. My guess is that is why it is even.

If anything, they went half homer in giving purdue the edge against their rush.

The second part Could Be even. Purdue Rush defense and Ohio State rush offense both 53rd in the nation

Yeah, i worry about the depth on the d line coming back to haunt us in the second half.

When did Indiana have the majority of their passing yards? When the game was already decided and they were against OSU second team? And the outcome didn't matter?

Rather than using stats against IU, you should use stats when OSU played an actual good team. A lot of yards are padded when the game is no longer in doubt. How did PSU do against OSU?

Penn State passed for 286 yards and 2 TD. They have the 62nd best pass offense in the nation.

Our pass offense against them is not an even matchup

PSU has elite receivers and linemen. We have 1 elite receiver.

Weve had enough teams in the past 20 years that are good enough to carve up mediocre talent but struggle when playing against big teams to know why its a wash.

But their overall results are nowhere close to ours. We both played Illinois. McSorley passed for 160 on them. “Oh but psu ran at will.” Ok, against Pitt he passed for only 145 on 46.6% ... gross.

Indiana was only down by 9 to start the 4th quarter. Indiana only had 16 yards of offense in the 4th quarter. I would say your premise that Indiana gained much of those passing stats against OSU's second teamers is false.

I think you make a good argument FYF.

Which is conducive to a lower completion percentage? I understand “we are up let’s run more and pass less.” I’ve never heard that accompanied by, “and guys, since we are up, let’s complete fewer passes.”

This is a better pass offense than Penn State. I’m fact, the total offense ranks 3 spots ahead of PSU. They are 13 we are ten. And we were blah for the first two games.

I was just asking the question to make sure. I believe the biggest key to our success is twofold. Don't make mistakes/turnovers. And catch the damm ball.

I believe if our receivers can catch the ball and hold onto it, Purdue will have a chance. I do worry about their offensive line wearing us down in the 4th quarter. My hope is we can score early rather than getting into a game of playing catch-up ball.

I ain’t mad atcha. I think when it comes to us getting worn down, people underestimate Anthony Watts hardnosed toughness. He seems to get more physical as the game goes on, as does Reviere, who just doesn’t have DE burst to get to the QB. And then Lorenzo Neal just clogs the middle and to me is underrated.

I second nat and think you can get ready for a close game if you see Derrick Barnes at DE and not just on 3rd down. Other than Blackmon (and Cason when he’s at CB) and Barnes when he’s at LB, Higgins performs least on the D.

I'm naturally cautious and sceptical . OSU will be our biggest challenge all year. To have a chance, we will have to play the game of our lives and hope OSU has a bad day. I have to believe OSU will be ready and will take us seriously. I don't know of any team we've played this year that comes close to being as good as OSU is. And that scares me as to what to think or predict.

If we win, I know we will be reaping a lot of rewards, and will turn a lot of heads of elite recruits. I'm unsure what will happen if we play well but lose, or if we get blown out.

I think we can keep it close if we play very well. I’m not calling us a favorite

Sustain a few drives and there is nothing to worry about. Also, at this point in the season and with cooler weather...fatigue shouldn’t be as big of a factor.

False. With guys that big, they shouldn’t be playing more than 50 snaps a game.

Want to know why tillers defenses collapsed consistently in the 4th quarter? First teamers playing too many snaps
