Nope. He's never coached before. Great QB, but no evidence *yet* that he's a good coach. You would take Drew Brees as an OC, right?
Ideally the OC is brought as part of an entire staff by an offensive HC. Like Jim Chaney or Brian Brohm.Who would you take? Chip Kelly?
Brian Brohm showed that is a horrible OC in the bowl. Absolutely NO.Ideally the OC is brought as part of an entire staff by an offensive HC. Like Jim Chaney or Brian Brohm.
With all our good players sitting out, of course we sucked. He was good when Jeff was out with Covid.Brian Brohm showed that is a horrible OC in the bowl. Absolutely NO.
I'm waiting for Bobinski to be fired. He is the cause of all this! If the Prez had any balls he would can him first.to see if Walters has been fired yet?
This doesn’t sound good:
Keeping him another year only saves $3 million. They will lose more in ticket, concession, and parking revenue than that. They say due to the buyout. Yep nothing will change…
With our luck, Brian will get Purdue bowl- eligible annually against top- shelf competition, recruit like dogshit after year three, then promptly bolt for Louisville to replace his sainted brother when he retires…With all our good players sitting out, of course we sucked. He was good when Jeff was out with Covid.
Two coaches that would at least put the program first.......Maybe just hire Sumlin/Spack as Co-HC's so 90% of this board would be excited.
I wasn’t recommending we hire Brian Brohm now, to be clear. With our luck, Brian will get Purdue bowl- eligible annually against top- shelf competition, recruit like dogshit after year three, then promptly bolt for Louisville to replace his sainted brother when he retires…
Hopefully the "more time" means just until the end of the season....
I still think this is just PR. What are they gonna say? Our coach sucks and we're gonna fire him....but not yet. We're just going to leave him to wither on the vine until keeping him on becomes completely untenable?Hopefully the "more time" means just until the end of the season....
Please! No retreads! These guys...Sumlin, Spack, Chaney, Olson...have had their days at Purdue. But bringing them back would be a mistake. Would feel like a Fred Akers hire. With Greg Olson as OC!
And I would 100% expect Maryland would allow him to interview for Purdue HC job early. I would also have expected sumljn would make that a condition of his hiring (permission to interview for HC job). Regardless there are enough feelers out there purdue could hire him immediately after their final game
Don’t know if it is still an issue but drinking derailed his time at TAMU. Don’t know what the deal was at Arizona but that went bad and south pretty quick.Sumlin was a complete washout at Arizona. No!!!
He got a DUI at Maryland.Don’t know if it is still an issue but drinking derailed his time at TAMU. Don’t know what the deal was at Arizona but that went bad and south pretty quick.
Thought I remembered that. Yeah, not a chance I’d want him as HC of this program. He’d be better than Walters but I’m not convinced how much.He got a DUI at Maryland.
Agree. He definitely needs to take care of himself before he is given another shot at running a football program.Thought I remembered that. Yeah, not a chance I’d want him as HC of this program. He’d be better than Walters but I’m not convinced how much.
Yeah my perception was he was good at recruiting ready made skill position players, but those OLs were mostly courtesy of Mike Sherman…and when those were gone, things started to slide…Agree. He definitely needs to take care of himself before he is given another shot at running a football program.
But if you look closely, he had a couple of magical seasons early on at Texas A&M and since then has been pretty mediocre as a head coach. I'd look elsewhere.
I wouldn’t count that against someone. Especially guys who have proven to bring some success to their work while formerly at Purdue. Was Matt Painter a retread? Please! No retreads! Most of those guys have been fired (some multiple times) and are over 60 years old. Bit of a difference vs a 34 year old Matt Painter.I wouldn’t count that against someone. Especially guys who have proven to bring some success to their work while formerly at Purdue. Was Matt Painter a retread?
When was Painter fired? Most of those guys have been fired (some multiple times) and are over 60 years old. Bit of a difference vs a 34 year old Matt Painter.
Exactly my point. When was Painter fired?
I am shocked it took this long to be posted. He's proven. He can bring his sons and probably some others. He would have fewer restrictions in recruiting which would help. What about Pat Fitzgerald
he's busy with his suit against NW and I'd think most ADs would hold off hiring him until after his court case is resolved. There are 40 players that made accusations of hazing. If his suit goes to trial, the details of what he knew and when he knew it can come out. Some of those stories already out there don't make him look good. What about Pat Fitzgerald
Tiller was a bounce back and that seemed to work. In general, I agree with what you wrote, but Chaney would be a solid choice for OC.Please! No retreads! If I were the Bobinski, my first phone call would be to Brees for HC. He's got the name recognition to turn around the recruiting train wreck, he's wealthy enough that he'd probably work for peanuts and he's been a huge Purdue fan for decades. You would take Drew Brees as an OC, right?
I am sure he wouldn't take it, but I think Bobinski should call Brees to ask for advice on the next HC and staff. If I were the Bobinski, my first phone call would be to Brees for HC. Ideally, we would have a football executive making that decision. I love Brees, but how much time is he spending watching G5 football ?If I were the Bobinski, my first phone call would be to Brees for HC. I would suspect quite a bit, on the best home theater money can guy.Ideally, we would have a football executive making that decision. I love Brees, but how much time is he spending watching G5 football ?
You think he’s spending his Saturdays watching Tulane-Memphis and Boise State-UNLV ? Agree to disagree there.would suspect quite a bit, on the best home theater money can guy.
Probably not now that you mention it.You think he’s spending his Saturdays watching Tulane-Memphis and Boise State-UNLV ? Agree to disagree there.
