Agree with Dakich

Dakich is a complete blowhard but I tend to like when he does our games. Well, except when we play IU.

Thompson, Mathias, and V. Edwards are all glue-guys but VE is capable of higher-scoring games, given the right matchups.

PJ is the glue that holds us together. Runs the show, makes very few mistakes, and hits some big buckets. Glad we have him.
Love PJ, but showed tonight that we can win with Spike. Both are a great 1-2 punch at the point... Not to mention DM playing the point for an extended period tonight. I agree with Pit Bull though, Mathias is the glue for this team.

PJ may be the glue but I don't think there's anyone more important to play well than VE. It's encouraging tonight to see us win with him being off.

He had the toughest matchup (Miles Bridges). That will make someone appear worse than they are. Bridges is definitely more athletic than Vince so I thought VE did a good job of not getting discouraged and and made some tough plays down the stretch.

Really look forward to him doing the Purdue @ Michigan game on their senior day (his son's senior day...).

Dakich is a love/hate guy. It's great he knows so much about Indiana/Big Ten basketball...but sometimes he just tries way too hard to act like he's one of the guys. We get it, you know a lot. Don't have to shove it down our throats 24/7 though. He likes to listen to himself talk a bit too much.

Agree, he is a love/hate guy. I do enjoy whenever he says "Big Life. Big Stage. Big Ten" from the old BTN promo during ESPN broadcasts. Always makes me chuckle.

Only thing I'll give DD credit for is he's the first I've heard call CE bow legged, which I noticed the very first time I saw him.

Yeah it's like he's trying to make us all forget that Bowling Green canned his ass.

Vince did hang in a make some import plays late even though he was pretty much under Bridges thumb most played f the game.

True. Fortunately for him that dovetails nicely with his current profession. He can fill air time and is not affair to create that love him or hate him atmosphere.

Yep and if he has PJ's approach to the game with the increased size...another nice get
If we can pull him in the guard play will be stacked nicely over the next few years. PJ, DM, RC, CE, NE. Maybe Phinnius and young Mr. Thompson. Can you imagine if Langford dropped for a little while too?

I understand what you are trying to say but it looks like you just disproved your first sentence by the second!

I think CMP bringing Spike along slowly (especially after the back injury) has been key. Spike seems comfortable now and I think has shadowed PJT's role on the team as facilitator and just making sure the guys are in the right things at the right time. Kind of like Orton while he played in the NFL. He wasn't ever going to win a ton of games by himself but he was able to put guys around him in a position to win more often than not.

When I watch PJ in pregame shooting he rarely misses. In key situations the focus will be on the other guys, I love it!! Last night he was cold blooded nailing that three from the corner. Before the Wisky game I counted 12 in a row from that same spot.

pj has made big strides in becoming a big time point guard. he still needs to work on breaking the press. even against penn state he had trouble and spike came in to the rescue

As Dakich said...he isn't a guy you would point to as an elite conference PG....but there may not be a guy in the conference that is better at doing exactly what is asked of him: provide a steady influence, take care of the ball, get the offense in flow, and control the tempo of the game.

?? I do not get the Spike lovefest. And him as Key?

I just have not seen the production. Love that we have him to rest PJT. Great role there - as he helps PJT be better when he is in there........but his 23% shooting and 17% from 3 is not very impressive. I will grant he is a good foul shooter - so he could play a role their toward end game situations. But calling him "Key" is a bit overstated IMO.

I didn't call him key as in a key contributor. I simply said that CMP bringing him along has allowed his presence to become a key in the success of Purdue. I think it bares talking that Carsen seemed to struggle a bit more than we have seen all year when Spike was hurt. As you said yourself, Spike allows PJT to grab a breather and allows Carsen to continue playing his traditional off-guard/combo guard position without placing other guys out of or slightly out of position. Late in a game, I would rather have Spike bringing the ball up to get the team in to their offense than Carsen right now.

I don't know that he is key, but he could be a key reserve. He has the ability to score. He has the ability to hit the 3 and FT's. There is still plenty of rust and I suspect there will be a game that he looks to score more and then possibly the dam breaks. What I like about Spike is his awareness. He moves like an old man with purpose, totally aware of everything going on. It is nice to know that PJ has another that can provide much of the same things...even if he hasn't proven his shooting in a game. It was nice last year to have Haas and AJ both able to handle a position if one was not playing or not playing well...I like the depthand don't worry when he is in there. Pj has shot better and provides more pressure on the ball, but Spike really sees the court and anticipates things pretty well for the body he has today
