The obvious importance of the commitment Purdue landed this morning from C.J. Hayes simply lies in need.

This year, Purdue is very likely to start DeAngelo Yancey, Cameron Posey and Domonique Young as its first three wide receivers. Then, it will lose all of them.

Purdue has a year to develop the next generation but as of right now, not sure there are clearly established guys in line to ascend, both in rank and prominence. So Purdue needs wide receivers in this class, both in numbers and impact potential.

I can't claim to have seen Hayes do anything live, but I can tell you he is absolutely a physical specimen, a wide receiver who could pass for a linebacker or even defensive end prospect nowadays.

Point is, it seems like he can be physically ready to potentially help immediately.

He is a player who some larger programs tried to talk out of committing early and some smaller ones won't leave the ear of, so there still may be battles to come, but that doesn't change right now the fact that Purdue got a player it really wanted at a position that's probably its greatest need for 2017.
