2025 Transfer portal thread

I saw where his 3 prior years at high major Memphis and VT he averaged 1ppg. Really nice film this last year when he got chance to play though.

My 3 cent opinion is if Purdue gets Mayer I think I would prefer the Virgina kid for some more muscle/athleticism to go along with shooting at the forward spot. He looks like he moves well and could gaurd the Ace Bailey forward/wingd of the world if needed.

With Mayer, Painter likely goes to his traditional base 3 gaurd lineup where 5 guys can all dribble/pass/shoot in the rotation for those 3 spots.

If Mayer goes elsewhere, you need some more guys who can score off dribble and this Deleware kid could fit nice at forward 3/4 along with another transfer gaurd for depth. He seems like a Heide replacement with a better handle. Not sure how he rebounds/defends though.
Watching Mayer play right now. Seems to be a decent ball handler, has some flair with behind the back and crossover dribbles and such. Only seen him take one shot which he missed but he isn't looking to shoot. Seen him get a few assists though. Doesn't seem to move much when he doesn't have the ball but has no issues breaking the press.

Boozer twins and Dysbanta are men among boys for the US. Dominique Sarr, Ariza and Chong seem to be the stars for World team.

Still the first half if anyone has Peacock. Wearing #10 with the dark unis and Israel on his chest.

TKR is like top 5 man we ain't getting anyone better in the portal.

Painter is never not starting Loyer.
Loyer has earned his starting role and continues to earn it. One of the top shooters in the country, draws a ton of charges, doesn't' foul a lot, plays decent defense and make the entire team better.

After watching the rest of the game I hope we get Mayer. He was a lot like an unpolished Braden from a point guard perspective. He had a nifty left handed over the shoulder cross court pass to Markovic (Michigan commit) that was beautiful for the assist as Markovic drained the three. Mayer is right handed so that was a difficulty 10 pass and it was a bullet right on target. He had a few bounce passes in traffic that looked like Braden to TKR but he and some turnovers trying to force it. I'd guess he had 6 assists and 3 TO's in 15 minutes. He had a Jason Williams flair to him and had zero issues breaking press and was the primary ball handler when he was in.

He had a beautiful pass again to Markovic for a thunderous dunk. Michigan is getting a good one, Markovic is bad ass. This was like an NBA all star game, drive the lane throw up a circus shot and get fouled or drill an NBA 3 pointer and was so fast paced nobody would have surpassed a 10 second shot clock.

Mayer did not look to shoot, he was only setting up his team mates. He was the 7th or 8th option on their team and probably only logged 15-18 minutes. He missed a fade away 2 pointer and a 3 ptr from the top of the key so I think 0-2 from the field and I didn't see him get to the line. Not much of a rebounder, but he was among trees. Boozer twins and AJ Dysbantsa were all NBA ready and looked like a team with 3 Cooper Flagg level players on the floor at the same time.

There were no set plays, defense consisted of monster blocks and quick hands getting steals because both teams were moving soooo fast up and down the court. Quite a few alley oops and lots of dunks.

I think Mayer would do well with a year backing up Braden. He would take the ball handling pressure off Braden to play off the ball some but would hinder Bradens chance to break Hurleys assist record as he would steal assists. They both play a similar style, I would love to see him playing with some set plays and chemistry. This was a see my highlight reel game and he wasn't the focus.

Yah I fell asleep watching the game, lol …I did read somewhere where that we are by no means the only good team making a play for him. I did also notice in the couple of minutes in which I saw him that he didn’t move much or seem to stay engaged when he did not have the ball … but the style of the game wasn’t great to evaluate how he’d fit on a painter team!

How many 44% 3 point shooters are there ?

I like an ice cold summer shandy on a hot summer day.
Being a great 3pt shooter isn't the sole skill a 2G has. Also, Loyer wasn't even top 10 in 3pt per game made in the B10.

There were 9 players in "Div 1" who shot 44.4 percent or better from 3 and made more 3s per game than Loyer this season. So he's not even top 5 in that one area.

That doesn't make him chopped liver at all, but no he's not on the same level as TKR or Smith.

Purdue it is. Painter can fix the standing on offense.

Mooooooooooove!

Ugh on the Michigan commit looking good..... Dusty is assembling a nice roster again. Great for the B1G though.

On the bright side at least he isn't at IU. IU AD could be fired if Devries doesn't work out and May turns out to be the real deal. Should have fired Woodson a year ago.

But how many in the Power 4, that are going to be playing in 2025-26? Can’t be more than a couple.

Gonna be interesting to see who else we get. The rumored options keep not being it so possible someone one is talking about ends up being the choice.
Going to predict Mayer and the SIU kid Kennard Davis, probably both will be wrong but if they were to do this I’d be happy. Also, has Harris and TKR announced returns, that seems to be the norm now when players come back for another season.

We should know about Omer Mayer next week. Sounds like people are saying he is a done deal.

The Serb is holding off for now.
If Omer Mayer is a done deal, this would implicate a few things:

1) we most likely lose Gicarri Harris. He was rumored to go anyways and with someone else ahead of him, he’s likely elsewhere

2) we have our secondary ball handler and sharp shooter, and most likely Smith’s replacement at PG for 2026-2027. If Harris could be convinced to stick. We would have a Mayer/Cox/Harris backcourt for 2026

3) this would be Matt Painters best assembled team at Purdue

1) Smith
2) Mayer
3) Loyer
4) TKR
5) Cluff / Jacobsen

Bench:
1) Cluff / Jacobsen
2) Cox
3) Burgess
4) Benter
5) West
6) Harris (unlikely to stay)

And I’m sure we add something else portal wise. Not sure how I would even approach the portal with this add.

4) we should be the undisputed pre season #1 and Big Ten favorite.

I don’t know if we lose Harris if we get Mayer and no guarantee he is a day 1 starter.

Also, Harris is getting minutes ahead of Benter and West for sure.

Not sure why you have Harris as bottom of the bench. We have no idea if Mayer is good enough to immediately start. Your pecking order is specious.
