2025 Transfer portal thread

Didn’t we recruit this kid? I’m old enough to remember when Iowa States coach was the hottest thing since sliced bread and here we have another early tourney exit and players rushing to the portal.

Came at him hard. Fortunately, we found Daniel. At the time he was top priority. Nice kid from a small school who loved him. We should be involved.

Not sure why teams waste limited NIL $ on bench guys. Get a starter.....a difference maker.

Every team I know of has plenty of bench guys, lol.

Don't understand teams that add bench guys unless they just need #s because their team was depleted one way or another. A big time D1 team adding Cupps or similar quality players to me has lost their direction.
Well scholarships did expand to 15 so maybe. He will be a great scout team player for them

I tend to believe Cupps in the right scenario such as OSU could become a very good player.

BUT…. There’s a lot of smoke about Willard actually to Nova.

A ton of smoke and he isn’t doing anything to alleviate or stop it - he is actively throwing gas on the fire.
My take. Nova has offered the job to Willard and he said he wants to wait until his team's season is over before making a decision.

He is very publicly asking his administration for more resources in order to pressure them to give him the best possible chance to win a title at Maryland. If they give him what he wants, he'll stay at Maryland. If they tell him to pound salt, he'll accept the Nova job.

This is kinda similar to how the Painter to Missouri fiasco played out but it was much more behind closed doors.

Totally think that is what’s happening but he is doing a terrible job playing his cards. He might get the resources but if he screws up in the slightest they will fire him

I thought this was a negotiating ploy by Willard, but after reading the Ross Dellenger piece yesterday, I’m not so sure.

Sounds like the non football Big East schools might be able to spend more revenue share on hoops than SEC or B1G schools.

Oh, that perception is out there. But if it's anywhere close to reality, the B1G and SEC will figure out a way to eliminate their advantage.

We are not going to get a high scoring #5. We don't have the shots for them and they aren't going to want to play 2nd fiddle to TKR. We're going to get a guy that compliments what we already have. Rim protector, rebounder and decent shooting % from field and FT line is what we will end up with. Sure, it sounds good to say we want a guy averaging 20 a game this past season, but that isn't what is going to happen.

CMP is going to get the support guys we need and we will be top 5 to start the year next year. Book it. I think I just convinced myself!

I’m advocating for the 7 footer from Wichita state! 10ppg on 75% from the field, 1.9 blocks per game, 9 rpg and 1.6 fouls per game in 25ish mins. Not good at FTs tho.

I also like Williamson (7 ft from BUCKNELL) and Davidson (6’10 from Nevada)

don’t buy into the theory we can’t pursue a high caliber contributor at the 4 or 5 position. If we are playing the portal just play the portal and get whatever pieces paint thinks plug in help in the NC pursuit. Need someone who can create if possible

Painter just said we are going after "one or two" guys in the portal. I'm going to assume it's 2 unless he wants to keep a scholarship open for some reason.

Totally agree. Let's dance! I am hearing a few names coming and going. Back into the sweet 16 without this generations most dominate player. Painter can coach several examples past and present. Let's keep playing everything else can wait.

Yes, Ballard may be a better fit or Williamson. Idk if Ballard has range, I'm guessing no, but Williamson appears to. Haven't seen video of Davidson yet.

Correct on Ballard…hasn’t even attempted a 3 in his career 😂

I like williamson’s athletic ability and rim protection. And he can shoot it a bit outside from 3. I feel like he’s where DJ will be in 2 years.

And here is Davidson highlights…he can score and shoot the 3…37% on 4 attempts a game….he prob isn’t going to transfer here and take a backseat 😂 I hope I’m wrong.

Coming from New Castle (not there now) and knowing the Alfords I watch Nevada when I get a chance. Davidson is a player who could be a bit more physical on defense, but does play solid D. He can score from outside, or inside and makes the team around him better. This was one of Steve's worst years in Nevada, and I'm sure he's going to do whatever he can to keep Davidson.

That being said, will CMP ever let a big man move outside?

Oh, Jacobsen will be on the perimeter a lot.
