2025 Transfer portal thread

I am hearing Purdue is active in the portal. I had 3 names thrown at me today alone. All big men makes me nervous about TKR and or Berg. Also, I am hearing a good number of false claims IMO. Either way it's going to be a crazy off season.
In fairness, why be nervous about Berg? If he goes I think Purdue will be just fine, he actually might carve out a role at a smaller program. TKR isn’t going anywhere, if Purdue can’t keep him and Braden the program has serious problems, they both play like 35-40 minutes a game, I’m sure they’ll both be taken care of in their final seasons.

She has but honestly hasn’t been that bad as of late. She is pissed about Brad and Illinois staff choices not to play him. She pointed out that the other guards turnover the ball constantly and don’t get benched like DGL.
We know what Mom's posting is like. Their hearts block their vision and minds. Putting it civilly. They should just stay away from these boards as they can't handle the truths about their babies.

Has a do not contact tag so he’s already lined up his new location.

So do the S16 teams make moves over this week or do they wait (are there any rules stating they can or can’t?)?

I Imagine it’s “poor taste” to get transfer guys while you’re still playing, especially if you recruit over someone….but thats the nature of the beast now, right?

The portal needs to be changed, needs to be like the NFL, season should have to be over for players to announce, let the madness begin Tuesday morning after the title game. As it is now you likely got bench players and maybe even some starters that can’t wait for their teams to be eliminated so they can declare.

Yes. And we had a volleyball player go to the team we got beat by in the NCAA tournament, right afterwards. If she knew she was going there before that game, that raises some questions. She actually didn't play well in that match. What a strange world it is now with this stuff.

Looking at the posts - I believe everyone and anyone is reaching out. You have to be stupid to sit on your hands until after the tourney to make moves.

Yeah no doubt. I like that we have already been active out there and our name has been thrown around. Wonder if deals will be announced now or wait until the season is over.

Painter talked about this after the McNeese (St.) game - have to balance, but you can't ignore it either as it's part of the job - all the coaches wanted the portal dates shifted, which happened (and Painter was part of a subcommittee).

What a lot of these coaches don't know yet (including Painter)....is anyone else from the roster departing? - or how many openings/team pieces does he need? Some of these will be contingency plans according to what Painter stated. Purdue obviously has some openings no matter what (due to scholoraships and Furst graduating) - but adding depth at any particular spot may/may not be pursued.

Without unexpected defections, I'd hasten to wager Purdue is not adding but two or three players at the outside, though definitely front-line depth. Definitely could be wrong about that. Whatever happens, Painter does have a plan, even though some may reasonably disagree with it.....he won't change the principles he wants for the team.

JMHO

We'll know soon enough for me anyway.

We need a rim protector/lob threat (my vote is Bucknell center) to pair with DJ—either to start or come off bench, a kid who can go get his own shot at any time over anyone (an example would be Claude from USC or a guy like tonje) and/or a defensive oriented guard who can get to the hole.

I’d say someone who can take pressure off Braden/give him time to rest…but we all know he’s playing 36-40 min next year 😂

Hard disagree - who is backing up Jacobsen and TKR at the 4/5? Berg isn't working out and Burgess will need a big jump to fill those minutes. Bringing in a solid vet to provide reinforcements is needed.

As for the guard situation, pretty sure most thought we didn't need Lance but that was the missing piece.
We really need a defender who can run the floor and jump. A 4/5 guy that has some tools that TKR and Jacobson don't have.

With miller to Texas….how can we convince Ryan Conwell to come play for a natty next year??!
Natty? We have that problem with the portal. Someone will offer Smith huge...HUGE...money that may turn his head and the color of his jersey. Same with TKR. And probably Loyer with his high shooting percentage. Maybe even Myles and Cam get offers. Don't count on any of the current guys being here except for maybe Waddel and Josh Furst.

It's not just about getting someone, it's about keeping those who may help PU get to that final game. That's the future DP.

You are very pessimistic about us losing all of our players. We’re Purdue. I think we can pay them and retain them.

I am counting on all of them being here. Paint has said he has the money and can use it when needed. Let’s hope he’s right.

So therefore, if they’re all back, we will be competing for an NC and I’m sure any transfer can see that and see he’d be playing with 2 top5 players next year for a top 3 coach in a top 2 environment.

However, I don’t see the big 3 leaving just for money, nor do I see Myles leaving (despite what you may think of him as a player or person), Cam or any of the current Frosh.

I, as a fan do NOT want to see it. BUT if they do leave, I hope they get a ton of $$$, as they all deserve it.

I’m still of the mindset that I want Purdue to take care of the returning players as a financial priority and then only add transfers once everyone is well taken care of. With DJ back, I love next year’s roster.

100% agree. We know what we have with our current roster and there is immense value in that.. especially going in to next season. Dropping wads of money on a portal transfer with a roster like ours could end up badly.

Now that is not to say to avoid the portal, but to your point.. our current players (that are staying) should come first.

Yeah for sure. But we also have to play the transfer portal too.

When I talk about which players would be great to have, I am already assuming all guys will be back next year and be taken care of.

Valpo big man (Schweiger?) - doesn’t look like we have reached out

The big from the Dakota’s - doesn’t look like we are involved there either.

Yeah saw that too. I wonder if that’s just a list of some or if it includes all. TBH, on3/tipton doesn’t have much insight. His articles are more of him guessing and don’t provide actual sources or truth. But still, if we haven’t reached out, I wonder if it’s due to having someone else in mind…like the kid from Nevada (since it has been known via social media that we reached out).

Bringing back our top 7 rotation players could cost $10 million or more. So it’s possible that we end up having to make choices between bringing back a rotation player and signing a portal guy.

No doubt. Paint will prioritize his guys and then get the best possible fit from the portal while making financial sense (as we both know!).

Purdue will have the luxury of revenue share. What exactly it'll look like for B1G teams, not sure. But keeping the top 7 just off NIL... Won't close 10mil unless Smith and TKR are wanting 4.5 each.

Yes. Though our coach is old school in many senses, he is no idiot. He knows you better move with the times, suffer or fall back. It is so much different today. It is more of a business and you have to make business decisions. Didn't the Virginia coach retire because he wanted nothing to do with the new wave of college sports?
