2025 Transfer portal thread

I agree. Probably limiting the amount of paid-to-play players should be limited. Recruiting should be our priority and sprinkle-in a portal guy or 2 (should be our limit).
limited? You think Purdue had limited players which received NIl?

Yep which is what helped the program get to a FF last season.

The portal is not going anywhere and Painter has said he will use it (I'm paraphrasing) but I also agree with what you're saying, sprinkle in a couple and go from there.

The issue for us this season has been we have 3 people doing it all... and no help because at least two of them are still being developed. I expected more from Cam/Colvin though.. their regression has been a mystery.

Are you conflating blocking shots with playing defense for Furst? Caleb is a very good defender.
for a big, he does a good job on the ball...just not a real rim protector and low post player depending. He does however provide perimeter D for a big...I just think there are times he switches and shouldn't as it causes problems quite often. THAT said, it may be more of a coaches decision in trying to contain the dribble than Caleb's desires.

He is on a do not contact list - so unless Purdue is one of those names he will transfer to, we are out.
No problem for me either way with him. I just didn't agree with oldboiler that he was the one and only choice for us. Even if we are on his "list" I wouldn't automatically say he is the best option. That's all I was saying.

So I sat beside Cam's dad in the Carmel sectional for a couple of games. Cam's grandad played at Butler and knew my brother-in-law...such a small world. Cam came out and turned the game around for Westfield in the 3 quarter as he hit some key shots...wouldn't call them good shots, but shots that went in. He can elevate and has a quick release or did and isn't shy about shooting. He is a good athlete and have no idea if he plays more under control after playing some college. Now, I'll watch the video... ;) Now that I watched the video I REALLY like the way the ball goes through the rim...

Cupps to portal….Dayton more than likely.

same! How did he and Braden work together? He seems athletic, not afraid to shoot, can get his own shot.

Would be a great option off the bench to back Braden up or just to get some offense from the bench.

Don’t get me wrong his game looks great, but if we could have a 3 man portal class I’d say he’d be the third we’d need. I wonder how his defense is this level…any insight there?

that was over three years ago. It was basically those two that created for others. CAm was athletic (dad spent some time in the NBA) and certainly not shy about shooting. He elevates on his jump shot and can get it off any time he wants. I just don't know if he plays more under control at this time. He certainly wasn't afraid of the pressure. I haven't seen him play since then. Has some basketball genes with his dad and grandad

I’m from Evansville and his dad was the real deal at UE! Had such a sweet shot and quick release. I remember that game in the video. I saw UE play twice this year and Cam is definitely not his dad. I don’t believe he started those games and he does like to look for his shot. I don’t know if id say he played under control all of the time. He looked OK on an UE team that was not really very good. IMO both Harris and Cox are better and have more potential…

His dad led UE to the second round of the NCAA tournament the same year, 1988-89 I believe

Yes, it was 88-89 under Jim Crews; went to a couple of their games in Roberts Stadium. In addition to team leader Scott Haffner, they had center Dan Godfread and guard Scott Shreffler......also a reserve named Olaf Blab (Uwe's younger brother), who transferred from Illinois.
