2025 Transfer Portal News/Recruiting

IMO - this is the depth chart as it stands now. If everyone is HEALTHY and stays healthy - this roster is much better, deeper and more talented than last years. But if we run into injury issues at the point and posts - we could suffer a similar type of year - record wise.

Feldman/Karsh

Kiki Smith, Nya Smith, Douwstra

Zay/Layden/Henderson

Puryear

McCarthy/Gordon
I agree except at the 4.. personally, I'd like to see someone a little more mobile, someone who can extended the defense a bit. Zay is only 6'1, but she has shown the ability over the years to be a decent rebounder.

Would CKG start 2 slower bigs with only 1 backup big on the roster as of now? Idk, and all that really matters is who ends the game and who accumulates the most minutes. Puryear and McCarthy have both been foul prone.. one would think some of that is due to them being young, so that should improve next season.

I could see Zay at the 4 with Henderson(who has also shown good rebounding ability) at the 3. Puryear slides to the 5.

This was one lineup - particularly our biggest possible lineup - we will go smaller for sure where we would most likely see Layden/Zay or Henderson at the 4 spot - or a possible (hopefully imminent) addition at the 4 where we are sorely thin at.

Our only good players are wings or centers, we have no competent point guard or power forward, and only a couple players that can cover those spots at all. Feldman running as our primary point to me looks awful. Her assist to turnover ratio was bad before you plug her into our shit offensive scheme.
As a junior last year she finished 3rd in assists and 3rd in assists to turnover ratio in the league. That doesn’t actually sound “bad,” as you say.

Puryear at PF is a big mistake, she's far too slow. McKenna will play the bulk of the PF minutes, backed up by Madison or Henderson at 5'10". I still think point guard looks really shaky too.

Another aspect about the Karsh addition - while yes - she will have freshmen eligibility - but she is in no way non-experienced.

She is 20 years old - so technically the age of a rising college junior - and she has major experience playing in professional leagues in Europe. Her and Feldman will be a very experienced at the point for us - the exact opposite of what we had this past year.

Now - lets see if they can run a team and initiate an offense. But those are the points for this year, it's clear.

He will be an assistant. Reynolds drop to a mid major team that lost to a bad Purdue team last year by 18. Goodluck to them, it's probably for the best for both families (Purdue, Reynolds). Addition by subtraction? I could see Kira transferring to a P2 program her last year once the sisters are gone, she should be pretty good, at least from a defensive standpoint.
I always like Shereka Wright. Great player, great boilermaker. Something with the whole Reynolds situation somehow nags at me. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be subtraction by addition for Shereka in the end.

Whelp - the staff secured another addition this weekend as former St. John's Guard/Wing Tara Daye committed. Didn't do much this year as I assume she was out with an injury. Previously played at Depaul her freshman year - last year she played in 31 games with the Red Storm with 19 starts. Averaged 4.2 ppg and 3.5 rpg. At just 5'10 she seems to be a good rebounder - doesn't have a 3 pt shot whatsoever having only made 5 (on 24 attempts) in her collegiate career.

Another offseason - another - WTF moment for this staff. I assume we will be playing a ton of 4 guards/wings 1 post lineup as they have gone on another all-wing diet. Assume this is yet another depth piece - but it really does not shore up where we are weak/thin at. That's why they get paid the big bucks... but we are still an injury or 2 away from disaster - and there's very few eligible Forwards left to choose from - if this staff is even pursuing any at this point.

The thing that irritates me about the situation - is that I feel that it was completely set up by the dad to further his career. I mean... it obviously was ... and he was just using Purdue as a convenient place holder until Kira graduated (close to home, etc.) He knew he was going to resign after the youngest daughter graduated - and he knew he was going to use that high school success (and the news he was bringing 3 talented players with him) to secure a coveted college assistant position. Maybe if the older 2 showed literally anything at the college level he could've gotten a better job than UTA.

KG may have seen it coming - or she may have been completely blindsided - and I knew she was kinda desperate for talented players - trying to turn this ship around - and I know hindsight is 20/20 but I wouldn't have tried to build my entire program around this essential pyramid scheme of the Reynolds sisters/Dad - it clearly was going to fall apart and you come away with literally nothing out of it.

Maybe a more experienced coach would have seen it coming and wouldn't waste 3 years of their time.
