2024-25 Purdue Transfer THREAD

Just when you think it can't get worse, we are now losing a long snapper.

Will it ever stop??

I truly don’t think he’s that bad….just was coached for 2 years to do the wrong thing!
About 6 or 7 weeks ago you mentioned that and it made me watch Heldt's play with a little more balance and less criticism towards him as the player. But like you also mentioned, can you imagine what the opposing coaches are thinking scheme wise when Heldt plays DE the way he does.
It's like he has total distrust of his DT.....

In run situations, he was basically asked to step down to engage a potential blocker while the LB was supposed to come around him, get to the outside and make the 1v1 play.

Lots of ifs there. Some of the time the blocker was already engaged so we sent a guy to the back of one of our own players already being blocked, allowing 1 guy to take 2 out of the play. Some of the time Heldt would fight his coaching and freeze and the play would already be by him. Some of the time he’d engage his blocker like he should and the LB was either to slow or not there allowing the free run to the outside.

Now, throw in the read option and the D is VERY confused and there aren’t enough #s outside in the D to stop any outside runs.

Was a fundamental flaw in the scheme that had nothing to do with talent.

The right hire can fix a lot of these potential defections..
I don’t think half of these guys leave.

I think we’ll make a decent hire and as long as he doesn’t come in and purposely clean house or act like an asshole that should stem some tide.

Also, who wants to grab a guy from a team that just went 1-11?

We will be fine after all this. We can’t be worse…I just think it will take a year or two to rebuild and have the new coach hit his stride.

Totally agree. I'm pretty impressed with the number of players that are openly leaving the door open to return ......
I know that we only have 6 Signees from H.S. but they look pretty good on the hoof and have some impressive numbers!!
We really owe it to those kids to give them their own thread and make them welcomed and the topic discussion.

Why even talk about players going into the transfer portal? We know almost all will , and are waiting to see who the coach is and how it works out for them.

the TE that decommitted and went to psu we may have a good chance of getting him back due to psu getting a 4 star TE flip from Wolverines ( Olesh ) who is from my neck of the woods

He has a ton of talent and likely will end up at a "big" name school if I had to guess. I am surprised it took him this long to enter really.
He’s also eligible to enter the draft. He’s a better TE RIGHT NOW than at least half the bozos that Ballard runs out there for the Colts every Sunday….

Its a testament to purdue. The past two years have been hard to look at from the outside....cant imagine what the players and families think. However, the crowd still showed and theres too many good things about purdue to list. Just need the right coach to give these guys a little help on the football front.

Per Woody, Purdue cornerback Kyndrich Breedlove will enter the transfer portal. Breedlove had the highest coverage grade of any Purdue cornerback that played more than four games.

I don't think I felt like this when Hazel left as you could tell the team had talent. To be honest I don't care if everyone leaves the team and we start fresh. This year felt worse than any of the Hazel years. I always root for the players but being semi pros I just don't care that much anymore. They all stink. Start new.

The portal wasn't the same then. By any stretch. This whole thing is different than Hazell.

Klare predicted (99%) to ND...
If Theineman leaves, I have a feeling he's going there too.

I guess a small brightside on the Klare front is Odom's comments today about transferring players following him here to Purdue. The way I interpreted what he was saying is that players from both UNLV and Arkansas have show interest in joining him (but he didn't explicitly say this). Arkansas does have a highly rated TE that is in the portal and is from Oklahoma. No idea if they are related or not, but he has the same last name (Hasz) as UNLV's center too. If Klare leaves, maybe there's something there but I'm probably being overly optimistic. I'm also a big fan of Burhenn so

Moussa to Louisville.
While losing our only returning starting lineman is never good, this one doesn't really bother me. He's felt like our weakest link on the starting Oline for a couple years now. Website says he's listed at 300, but he always seemed undersized and would get bullied in pass protection (had some decent moments in run pro). I think we have some okay pieces left over (e.g. Tanona, Green, Ball, etc.) but the entire line needs an overhaul.

Both lines were obviously not great, if not let's face it, pretty bad. We didn't get pressure, didn't stop the run. We couldn't run against most teams and were at best mediocre against a decent pass rush.

My hope is that the new coach solidifies the lines. Everything builds out from there. If you can have two good lines, you can get away with weaknesses elsewhere in a way you can't if your lines are no good.

Maybe Card would have been a decent QB behind a great line but boy was he subpar behind a bad one.
