2020-2021 Minutes Projections

To make a projection at this point is pointless. What I can do is make some assumptions based on available information.
Hunter will probably be even better, which is damned good.
Sasha will probably be better, but what does that really equate to?
Tre will probably be better, which is damned good,
Wheeler- Who in the known universe can predict. I don't see a huge improvement.
IT - What a guy!!! Everything I want in a Purdue player who will cheer his ass off on the bench. I honestly don't see him playing ahead of Morton or Ivey after Jan. 1
Gillis - by far the most "muscular" on the roster. How does that translate? With two years of rehab, I don't worry about his knees. He is a MAN.
Newman - Ready, willing and able to score and understands the system on both ends. I see a great player from the get-go
Edey - I can dream! I can HOPE. But, knowing CMP's pentient for give me four good years over three good years - he redshirts regardless.
Ivey - the answer to every prayer sent-up this past year. He and Newman are who we were missing this year. How quickly will he play solid D?
Morton - Why is everyone ignoring the words from CMP? HE is the guy CMP has been wanting for years. To diminish that is ...
Dow --- hmmm, mysterious is he!
SO!!! major questions:
1. When (not if) will Morton be better than IT?
2. When (not if) will Ivey be better than Sasha?
3. When (not if) will Gillis be better than Wheeler?
4. How will Newman fit-in
5. Will Dow contribute?
~ I suspect Jan 1 for all the above
Based on that, after Jan 1:
Starters:
Morton
Hunter
Ivey
Gillis
Tre
major minutes
IT
Sasha
Newman
Dow???? no idea, but he better be
Not so many
Wheeler
Red shirt
Edey

Wheeler as the only backup to Gillis and Tre? Only gets limited minutes? You expect Gillis and Tre to play 35+ minutes each....?

I suspect Wheeler to get in and take some minutes ... I don't suspect he will contribute as will be needed. So, yes, as everyone already knows, we have a soft spot. If Dow comes thru ... then this is moot

You don't think Dow plays at all? Expecting Gillis and Tre to play that much seems crazy.

Ok, you have covered my thoughts. I am not going to predict Min. played because I believe the players control that. We have some question marks but we also have a roster capable of GOING OFF on the scoring end. I think about a lineup of Morten/Hunter, Ivey, Newman, Wheeler and Tre. Assuming Wheeler matures a bit and gets his confidence back and Tre can hang from a pace standpoint, this could be a very good lineup.

The ace in the hole is that each, minus Tre, have a very capable backup/partner. This roster is coming together slowly because life happens but, it is coming together to be what I would expect a very good offensive team.

I'll be shocked if Newman is that low. I'd say 20 plus for him with less for IT. I feel like more for Morton too but I don't know how many minutes a typical true freshman plays under painter.
I'd also think 14 minutes for Dow would be less than ideal for Purdue. Hopefully edey is capable of splitting the backup 5 minutes.

Carsen played 23 mpg as a freshman but 15 to 20 is more typical. I think Newman’s minutes may be somewhat limited by basically playing the same role as Sasha.

Agree that it would be great if Edey is ready to contribute in year one. Would be nice to be able to use both he and Dow based on matchups.

It's a slow time on the board, and there are way to many IU threads being bumped, so I figured I would try to give us something Purdue related to talk about. Below are my guesses on minutes played per game next season. I'm confident already that many people will take issue with the number of minutes I see Wheeler/Gillis/Morton playing next year.

Hunter - 30
Tre - 26
Sasha - 23
Wheeler - 22
Ivey - 20
IT -20
Gillis - 18
Morton - 15
Dow - 14
Newman - 12

Edey - RS

Good post. Shows how competitive it will be for minutes at 1-3 and if Gillis and Wheeler can man the 4 that the team may be better off without Nojel.
