15 record

I'm happy to hear of your lifelong support. There is a huge difference between not believing in your team and publicly trashing them and not seeing any positives, when positives do exist. I respectfully submit that this years offense will feature a very good line opening holes for our new RB's...and our receivers will feature some big guys who will go up and get the ball...and our line will give our QB time to throw the ball deep. Just because I see these things as something to look forward to, and you see it as a train wreck, doesn't mean I'm saying you are not a true Purdue fan. I didn't know you existed until now. Take a chill pill before each game because I think you'll need it.

Actually, all of your predictions were correct following the game against Marshall... we have a good line that opened up holes for our new RB's and our receivers made some nice catches downfield (when Shoop allowed AA to throw it beyond 10 yards). I'll never be a fan of Shoop as an OC though - WAY too conservative for my taste. If I were Hazell, I'd be telling him to open up the playbook since we've only won 1 of our last 22 games against FBS opponents.

Remember who the author of this is and when the season is over and the team performs far better, you can join me in unleashing the biggest shit storm on this guy that he has ever seen.
Just remember what goes around....

Prior to Sunday, I was very optimistic and thought Purdue had a legit chance at being an 8 win team this season with a bowl win. After watching the game, I'm not sure they can get to 4 or 5. The ISU game I think is a wash as Purdue SHOULD roll ISU to the tune of a 28+ point win but the VT game will really be the measuring stick for the program. With VT losing their starting QB and Purdue's improved OL, WR's, and RB's, if they can control the clock and push the ball down field, I believe that have a realistic chance at winning and moving to 2-1 with a shot of confidence in going 3-1 in nonconference and 2-6 in conference. That would be a real improvement and sets up Purdue for a shot at a bowl game in year 4.

However, I'm not really 100% confident in that prediction for the simple fact that I don't see Purdue being able to beat anyone on their schedule (ISU included) if the game is within a single score in the 4th quarter. This is a program that hasn't shown the ability to maintain and control a game up a single score in the 4th quarter in a very long time and outside of the ISU game, who on the schedule does it appear that Purdue will be up two scores at that time?

My after the first game prediction: 4-8 (2-6 conference).

I think the Virginia Tech game is going to be a moment of clarity for anyone who originally threw everything they had behind Shoop, because anyone who doesn't like him must "just be an angry Bears fan."

If we lose to Va Tech, but we look semi-compitent on offense, I will begin to believe in Shoop a smidge. But that would be a tough task for a really good OC. Their defense is always loaded with speed.

What's more likely is a game where we look so inept, that people will wonder how they ever bought into anything about Shoop. The attendance at the Bowling Green game, either way, should be very interesting as a barometer.

I am thinking this is a make it or break it year for Shoop. He hasn't shown any development with the QB's since he has been here. Every year it is the same old story. It would cost too much to fire Hazell so the next best thing would be to get rid of Shoop.

Agree fully with this post. I'd have to wonder who Purdue could realistically get to replace him. I'm hopeful that Purdue could lure someone from a P5 conference or from another decent program, but I just don't know who they could realistically get.

My pie in the sky OC would honestly be Bob Stitt, who is the coach at Montana. He would be an instant upgrade and I would throw him what Shoop is making (400k) and give him full control of the offense. He currently makes $175k at Montana. I'm sure the attractiveness of making more than twice and controlling a P5 offense would be too enticing. And you are talking about a man who is about as well respected and innovative offensively in college football.

When this team has won 3 games after game 4 or 5, or even game 6, what will you and the whole bunch or history lovers and low ballers say? Would you expect them to go 0-6 again, based on last year? BoilerBullDog was right. Lots of guys on here are just moping, and crying about everything...I think they go through life with a rain cloud over their heads. Fellas---listen up: This team is not the same one from last year. Totally different offense. More depth. Totally better across the board. This team will probably tie that 2 win bet after the Indiana State game. That won't leave much to bitch about for the next 10 games. Give this team a chance to play.
How's that working out for you so far???

What's it take to see a new coach fade away?

I think hazel can win 6 games just its going to take a sum of 5 years worth on wins 6 if we are only counting FBS teams.

If we don't decide to stomach the buyout, we might as well just offer free tickets to anyone wearing a Purdue shirt.

Pretty much what I expected. Same overconfident fan calling the rest of us out and assuring us we'd be lining up behind Mollenkopf after the first game awaiting our deserved asswhippings and begging for more. I get being a fan and I understand youth and over exuberance but if you're going to put it out there be prepared to back it up or eat crow when you look like a fool.

Found this today while surfing the internet during lunch: http://athlonsports.com/college-football/ranking-all-128-college-football-head-coaches-2015

Hazell is the #100 ranked coach headed in to this season. Althon says this:
After guiding Kent State to a 16-10 record in two years, including an impressive 11-3 mark in 2012, Hazell appeared to be the right coach for Purdue. After two years with the Boilermakers, however, it's apparent that there’s still a lot of work ahead for Hazell. Purdue is only 4-20 over the last two seasons and has won only one game in Big Ten play. The Boilermakers had two losses in conference play by seven points or less, but lost three out of their last four games by 15 points or more. Hazell has made small gains through his first two years. However, plenty of work remains going into 2015, and Hazell needs to show progress in year three.

He is the last ranked Big Ten coach and was actually 12 behind Tim Beckman! The next coach is Paul Chryst at #65. The rest are as follows:
Kevin Wilson: 63
Randy Edsall: 56
Kirk Ferentz: 55
Mike Riley: 40
Pat Fitzgerald: 37
Jerry Kill: 28
James Franklin: 22
Mark Deantonio: 6
Jim Harbaugh: 4
Urban Meyer: 2

That places the conferences average at about 47 for the entire conference which leaves Hazell 53 places above the average for the conference (someone can correct my math if need be, I'm not a math person at all). Now, if Hazell suddenly goes 5-4 the last nine games, he probably jumps up that list and makes a lot of us look like fools, but previous results don't dictate that type of turnaround once the season has shown its results. If the previous results are an indicator of how the season will turn out, I don't see the season turning out well record wise. I have no doubt that Purdue can and will be competitive, but I'm not sold on the ability of this staff to get to the second half with a two possession lead to win a football game against the rest of its opponents. Realistically, I believe the BGSU game will show how the games against the other two realistically winnable games against Illinois and Indiana will go. If BGSU can come in and dominate offensively and win, there is definite reason to believe a P5 school will be able to do the same.

Most of us don't take as much enjoyment in Purdue losing as you do.

I take no enjoyment in it. I'm just pretty much numb to any feeling regarding Purdue FB losses since I've endured so many over too long of a stretch save for short respite during the Young and Tiller years. I don't consider going .500 and getting to the Pizza Bowl success. If that were the measure of success that is acceptable at Purdue then Neil Armstrong would only have had to learn enough to miss the moon on the way by instead of actually getting there. While there was a lot of good talk from the staff before the season there was no basis for the wild beliefs of many that we were on our way to a remarkable turnaround. There still is no basis for such beliefs. I'll be the first to come on here and admit I was wrong if it turns out differently but those that called us idiots and other things because we would not buy in in August will likely be unwilling to admit maybe we weren't so wrong at the time. I don't want to be right but have never felt the moves were made to fix the problems of the past two years. We've had QBs that could be at least average if they were progressing and a very predictable offense for both of those years yet no move was made to hire a true QB coach or relieve the OC of his duties. Coming off two atrocious seasons and not making a move to fix the problem is why we are where we are today. If I'm an idiot for accepting reality so be it.

SI2 there is a world of difference between success and "Also ran" status (Pizza Bowl), there is also a lot bigger void between "Also Ran" status and DLBF with the trophy being the backend of a horse. Purdue has won the DLBF trophy for the last 2 years running. I'm pretty sure MB has it in his office.

I'm hoping 18, SIBoioer, and Twin Degrees can all find a bar to hang out on Saturdays with a country western jukebox playing depressing music and no WiFi so they can all complain to each other about Shoop, Burke, and Hazell and not be on here posting Fire Shoop threads every time we have a running play only gain 1 yard. I'm sure we could even all pitch in and pay their tab.
Dang when are you going to show up and pay our tab? The group is growing each week, the music is less depressing than Boiler FB and we no longer care who is in charge of Purdue athletics or FB. This bar beats the hell out of RA on Saturdays!!!

Shh don't tell Burke, he thinks that trophy is a mirror.

If we stink up the place I'll be the first to admit I was wrong, but the real question is how many of you guys preaching the history will repeat itself pitch, will admit you were wrong? The last 2 years is history. I hate history. The past is gone.
Predictably you're nowhere to be found.

Right after I get off this barstool that gung-ho BoilerBulldog banished me too I'm heading out behind Mollenkopf to see if boiler800 ever showed up.

He's probably busy composing his post on how two 0-2 teams are playing in Madison and we're catching them at the right time.
Yeah, right....

Man the bar is sure crowded anymore but when I got up behind Mollenkopf to find that chestbeating asskicker all I found were crickets. Must have misunderstood the directions.
