Key to watching this years team.

No expectations

We are undersized, half court and not nearly as athletic.... on the other hand we have heart and you never know. By tournament time we could have found ourselves like we often post.
Never realized Edey masked so many limitations of this roster. Very disappointing that they have not improved their game individually since last year.

Indiana had a SOS of 67 entering the ND game. ND had a SOS of 60. Both teams whooped every team on their schedule but 1. And they didn't lose to multiple unranked teams like Ole Miss and Alabama. So it was pretty easy to put them in.
1. What was their SOS before playing OSU? Serious question. I think playing OSU saved them from having a very high/low SOS. But I could be wrong.

I'm not going to argue with you about if they should have been in the playoffs. But if you don't think how they and SMU played today won't affect the committee going forward, I think you're pretty naive. Same scenario next year and Alabama, South Carolina or others will be in there.

As I said, I think IU schedules exactly like a team in their position should. Make it as easy as you can to make a bowl every year. Don't challenge yourself early, just get 3 for sure wins and then hope for the best in conference. They had a very nice year and if I were an IU fan I would be thrilled. I think if you can take off your crimson glasses you would agree they were outclassed and didn't belong in that game. But if not, that's ok no big deal.

2024-25 Purdue Transfer THREAD

Or stay here…

Too many kids think it’s greener on the other side and end up playing their last down of P4, G5 or even college football as a whole
Agree, but if you do want to leave, and you’re completely unproven, go somewhere and actually play. Davila may never play a snap. He could have stayed and competed, and been the back up at least. Now he has zero chance to play for at least 2 years. I mean he was the freaking 3rd string qb on a 1-11 team for gods sake.

Colvin and Heide yikes

Very disappointing for sure. Watching Smith dribble the air out of the ball because no one else can do anything against elite defenders is pretty frustrating.
When sets breakdown. You need a PG that can dribble drive or create his own shot against tough teams.....ours does not have that ability. He's good when sets can be executed.

ND beat multiple top 25 teams. IU did not. IU could have but they paid 1M to not play Louisville this year. They won the games in front of them but their talent was not up to par for the playoff. Rourke 💩 himself and so did their OLine and defense. Cig talked a big game and got shut up. If they go 11-1 next year, then yeah, they’ll deserve to be there. But I don’t think they will.

Purdue vs. Auburn: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Tex: I give CMP a pass this year. He obviously thought the 2 frosh and 2 soph were ready to play at this level. However, if he doesn't go portal for help next year, that will be a different story.

I hear you Dry - plus two other things out of his control with Jacobsen's injury and Catchings' late decommit. I will be surprised if there isn't one this year, but two or three?......don't know about that - just going by what Painter has repeatedly said.

I also get that people disagree with his philosophy surrounding the portal and/or NIL.

POTFH or POTFI

Pretty much an indictment and getting to the heart of what TC has been arguing - 12 is the wrong number if you want a balanced and deserving championship field. This year may be an outlier - who knows with the way some of the unbalanced schedules ended up. But, they have to fill out the field, and doesn't overall record have to mean something? Yeah - you can distinguish teams in a 4 or even 8-team field, but how else.

I also hate using the playoff results themselves only to justify inclusion. Yeah, maybe Alabama or Miami would have been more competitive - but that's different IMO from whether they should be in or not......

They will factor SOS in more , as they should - how that works quantitatively or qualitatively is a different story.

You still could possibly end up with two Big Ten teams and two SEC teams in the semi-finals - or even three SEC teams - the cartel will be smiling then.
There was zero argument for Ole Miss or Alabama getting in. Those teams allowed teams like SMU and Indiana to get in. Don't lose to crappy teams like Vandy, Kentucky and Oklahoma and to unranked Florida. Do your job and win, and you're in. All Bama had to do was beat Oklahoma and they got absolutely stomped and embarrassed. Ole Miss lost at HOME to a terrible Kentucky team.

IU schedules the right way for a team in their position (PU should do same thing). Schedule 3 sure wins to start season so you have a chance for a bowl each year. Next season, here is IU's 1st 3 games all at home:

  • Aug. 30 (Saturday) vs. Old Dominion at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.
  • Sept. 6 (Saturday) vs. Kennesaw State at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.
  • Sept. 13 (Saturday) vs. Indiana State at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.
IU benefited from an "easy" B1G schedule they won't always get that. They played 3 teams all season that had winning records (ND, UM and OSU). Not worthy of the playoff and I'm sure between them and SMU they have ruined it for any other team like them to make it in the coming years. Committee won't make that mistake again.

Purdue vs. Auburn: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

CJ Cox ends up leading the team in scoring with 16 (3/5 from deep) 7/7 FT's.....wasn't in crunch time, but maybe it's a spark - he does need more minutes. Burgess 7/4 in mop-up duty.

Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama, A & M going to have some battles - Ole Miss and Mississippi State can play as well. SEC is cashing in these days.
