Ruth Bader Ginsburg has passed

She fought for justice til her death. Tough as nails.

This is a catch-22 for ol' Mitch. If he's going to pull the trigger on her replacement and go against his own rule, then he better be prepared for what's coming... and it will be ugly for him.

I have a feeling Mitch is about to be awarded the hypocrite of the year award.

If Trump nominates someone before the election, and Mitch tries to push it through,he is a complete hypocrite, louse and weasel.

And what "rule" is that?

And what "rule" is that?

In 2016, Mitch justified....
"this nomination ought to be made by the president we’re in the process of electing this year.”

And that was his justification early in the year then (February I think). We're a month and a half away from the 2020 election.

Then not a "rule", just politics based on a dem pres and repub senate. Not the same as a pres and senate of the same party.

A repub pres and senate should be able to get it done by the end of the year, although not guaranteed.

GOP named it the "Biden Rule" in 2016.... referring to a 1992 speech when Biden said that President George H.W. Bush should either wait until after the election to appoint a potential successor, or should nominate a moderate who would be acceptable to the Democratic majority, if there was a vacancy on the court.

Interestingly enough, there was no vacancy on the Supreme Court then, nor did one open up at any time during that presidential election year.

Thus, it became "McConnell's Rule" in 2016 as he implemented it and exercised it.

An election is still an election no matter the POTUS and what majority resides in the Senate. But don't listen to me. Listen to Lindsey Graham.

It sounds like Graham's predicting a nut job will be the nominee. I rather doubt Trump will want to nominate a nut job given how close it will be to the election; instead, I think the nominee will likely be Amy Coney Barrett who is from Indiana. She's no nut job but she is very conservative.

I'm sure they won't pass a new justice since it is an election year; just like last time. tic

This is different, there is not a divergence of power between branches. The people spoke, Trump and Mitch were given power. The case is clear.

Ginsburg could have retired under Obama, instead she hung on for Hillary. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes...

Do you think Chuck Schumer will be consistent in his opinion on this topic from back in 2016?

Or will Chuck be a "hypocrite" on the issue?
I have no idea what Chuck said but did he delay a SC hearing for 400 days?

This is not different. It’s just so expectedly hypocritical. The modern day GOP continuing to roll through town setting everything on fire.

You think last time if the Dems were in control of the Senate they would have waited, really?
RIP RBG. i know this kicks off a maelstrom but she should be honored.
No Maelstrom here, I. Agree totally. She was a person of great conviction and intelligence.

I am no fan of abortion but once that option is no longer available it will be shocking how many 12 years olds will be having babies, and/or die from back alley procedures. I am just saying be prepared for what you may be sowing. When I was a kid the racist publication I could see was Playboy and kids in grade school are watching hard core porn on their cell phones.
