I always think of a strong national defense relative to a centralized federal government. The Constitution speaks to it - “provide for a common defense”.a pandemic had been one of the few things i thought a centralized, federal government would be beneficial for.
The truth is the Founding Fathers did not envision a strong “centralized, federal government” overall. They wanted the states to be able to self-determine and not have the federal gov’t dictate how to do things.

I don't think that I would fully agree with that assertion. The Federalists, generally led by Alexander Hamilton, were quite supportive of a strong centralized government and were very difficult sells in relation to even the Bill of Rights

Actually, Hamilton's views were greatly implemented. The Federalists were the supporters of enacting the Constitution while the Anti-Federalists were, by and large, more attuned to the Articles of Confederation philosophical bent.

I have learned that Obama didn't initially take the position you ascribed to him, he was working across party lines and it was scaring the hell out of GOP leaders. They were concerned if he continued it would boost his popularity even more and hurt their chances going forward. Unfortunately he did change direction, as you said.
But that has little to do with bringing the country together.......at least on race or issues. There was still FOX and McConnell and a significant part of the country against him.....be it on issues or race or just plain partisanship.

It's become expedient for them to simply place blame on the person who temporarily holds the office of President knowing that nearly all of them can remain in Congress for decades. Actually solving major issues like immigration or healthcare wouldn't be helpful since they enjoy having these wedge issues to divide us up with each and every election.
The narrative that our country is full of systemic racism simply isn't true. Kamala Harris lost big in the Iowa primary and claimed racism for her loss since Iowa is >90% white while leaving out the fact that Obama won big there in 2008. I'm white and I enthusiastically voted for him in 2008 as I preferred him over Bush and liked his message of hope and change. Unfortunately what we ended up with was a man who would present a different narrative depending on who he was speaking to.

The biggest lie I have heard in four years, " I will build the wall and Mexico will pay for it." That's a major lie in my opinion.

When I was talking about lies, I was talking about policy enacted or just lies about what happened while in office, not a campaign promises.
Considering that half of that statement is happening, that's not much of a lie. What I haven't followed enough is how the United States Mexico Canada agreement is effecting things. It was talked about that a trade deal would be how "Mexico will pay for it". So I'd have to see how the flow of money was effected by that deal.
