Just one minor correction in an effort to avoid confusion when you start posting info for the other teams. The NCAA officially changed the name of the play-in game round to the "First Four" & the round of 64 is back to the 1st round, etc. That means Purdue lost in the 1st round of the NCAA tourney, not the 2nd.

Thanks Nag... Pretty happy with that roster. Picking up Spike is such a win-win, especially since we have Carson coming in. Spike will be able to share a lot with Carson that'll help him adjust to D1 faster. Guys like Jacquil and Basil are going to make the difference between good and great IMO, because they will get minutes. I believe they will rise to the call. Hail Purdue!

I feel like the staff passed up (or DNP: did not pursue) opportunities to add some quality grad transfers that could have made this team deeper (SG Akeem Springs and PF Anthony Livingston are just two that come to mind). I think they can still be pretty good, but not as good as they could have (can be?) been with one or two more quality additions.

First you whine about only adding grad transfers, now you are whining about not adding grad transfers. Make you your mind whiney mcwhineface.

I'm sure they would have come, we just had to ask right?

kessel, I've never "whined" about the program adding grad transfers. I'm all for grad transfers, if they make the team better. You must be thinking of someone else.

BTW, typing and posting messages using adjectives that might remind one of an average 5-year old's intelligence level is not the best way to add merit or value to your opinions.

Actually, I have interacted with (3 in total) previously undecided JC and DI grad transfers of interest this offseason that shared with me that Purdue never contacted them before they decided on their destinations, so yes, despite your sarcasm this could actually be true with some of these previously available players.

lol, no you haven't. Now you're just making stuff up to feed your agenda.

Wouldn't this be a violation? I am assuming you would be considered a booster and that you mentioned Purdue specifically?
I sure hope you are making this up and if not? Then you need to stop doing it.

Geez people.

I'm not standing up for anyone, but having a conversation like that in no way approaches a violation.

Having said that, if you add a grad transfer that will likely not log significant minutes you're asking for chemistry issues, regardless of what they tell you about being willing to accept a role. Who would you take minutes away from to give to those guys?

I'm guessing that the conversation went something like this:

Nage: Have you been contacted by Purdue about playing for the Boilers next season?

Recruit: No

Nage: I knew it! I knew that Coach Painter wasn't smart enough to recruit you! You need to contact him right now and let him know that you are available!

------------------

Just kidding, Nage.

Wow. You know........we have people for that.

You always do this. Just because someone is available you think we should want them, they want us, they will fit right in and make us a better team (as Northside mentioned above). Doesn't work that way.

I think talking to grad transfers is very different than high school recruits. You have the two situations confused. I hope Nag did talk to them. We need as many people talking up Purdue as we can get. The coaching staff can't be everywhere.

Now, the response that nobody from Purdue contacted them might mean that our coaching staff might be thinking they will get some other folks. Interesting though.

The transfers I mentioned are all ones that I believe would have logged significant PT. Hypothetically, if one or two of them had committed, it would have been a small amount of PT diminished from everyone, not just one or two returning players.

And yet another reason you aren't coaching. Just stop with the lies and whines already. Nobody buys your crap.

Violation or not. I prefer we don't have someone as delusional as he is about the coaching situation out promoting Purdue.
It probably didn't take long for the conversation to find itself where we all know it went. I don't know about you, but I prefer kids hear a more positive message about the school over a rant about the coaching situation.

Yep, that happens with every player.

Your post does point out two things you seem to forget. Painter and the staff do look for transfers pretty hard from all over the country. Chances are they did look at your two. They also are looking for positions of need and consider how a new player would fit with the team. You don't.

Not to pick any side of anything, but you do raise a good point about potential, but well meaning bad conversations. Personally, seeing the public in general I expect recruits do get some of that from all schools. I doubt outsiders have much effect unless asked about academic majors and such...or you were a friend of that recruit or a friend of a friend about something outside the sport and somewhat general in nature

Actually, I do look at positions of need, as well as best available players. So once again, you are incorrect in your assumptions.

I wasn't talking about Painter when I interacted with them, so you can just calm down.

You don't think a rant about how Painter needs to be replaced and how the AD doesn't care about winning could affect how a player feels about a school?
I don't know that this is how the conversation went, if it happened at all. But that's how it goes on this board for that poster. So I don't see it changing in public. Imagine that player now talks with one of our targeted recruits at a tourney and mixes his disappointment of not being offered with his real owned interaction with what he could feel represents the fan base?
Yeah, I don't see how that could be a good thing if one wants Purdue to be represented in a positive light. I don't need puppy dogs and rainbows. But I also don't need some fans basically recruiting for the opposition either.

Nage: To be fair you would need to tell us who these (3) players are. They might not have been contacted by Purdue because CMP didn't think they were good enough or would fit a need for us.

I've mentioned their names in a couple of posts recently and the other one in a post about three or four months ago.

So we are supposed to know who they are based on that? I don't read every one of your posts or every thread on here and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Just list their names right here. Surely you can see why some would question your authenticity. List the names and tell what the context was in which you interacted with them. Did you run into them at the mall, are you their summer coach, personal friend? Otherwise no one is going to take you seriously.

Why do you want me to break my relative confidentiality with them? I'm not overly concerned whether everyone takes me seriously or not. I mean what I say. If people don't believe me, then fine. That's not my problem. Look through my post history and you will figure it out because I know you're smart enough.

Fair enough. You and I have always gotten along pretty well, just trying to help you with some of the others that maybe you aren't having such a good time with. If you don't want to give the 3 names directly then so be it.

Damn I hate the off-season. Ninety percent of the threads during such time turns into a pis$ing match between essentially two teammates, aka, two Purdue fans.

Hell, even during the season there's bantering going on, but at least we have some discussion strictly concerning basketball and the Purdue program. I come to this site for that reason, but it seems like it turns more and more into "Desperate Housewive, blog edition," than THE Purdue Boilermaker basketball forum.

There's my 2cents in the pi$sing match.

Now proceed.

Doesn't matter. Nage has got it covered. He did all the research. Matt just needs to pull the trigger on these guys.

If that rant took place, then yes it would not help. I have no idea what, how, or if I thought much at 18 or so. Hopefully, (and maybe not for some recruits) I would have realized that fans do not speak for the school or team in many instances due the player's association with that in high school. Then again, it is possible that a player could be turned off or turned on by a fan, but I hope that recruit understands that is a testament towards humanity more than the student body and general fans. That is not to say all fans are the same. I guess since I don't know what transpired I'll take a pass, but understand your concerns.

I also wonder about the mental makeup of a player that is influenced in either direction over the coaches, the players and the casual students encountered randomly. Right or wrong I think that the most important thing a player can learn in basketball is mental toughness. That is an enduring characteristic the rest of that players life and what may be the most important characteristic a player can have next to exceptional skills and athleticism. It is what took Jordan beyond those with similar athletic ability. Unless the player being described is very immature mentally (and I know some are), will that person have the mental approach needed when the chips are down, when everyone is tired in the second overtime.and so many other defining moments. So yes, a rant as you describe cannot help, but unsure how much damage it does as well "IF" that rant when on. Twitter makes it really hard to get into a discussion...
