Congrats on your new coach. We in Louisville have literally watched the Brohms grow up from Local HS stars, to UofL stars, NFL careers and then coaching careers.

The Brohms are a football family, and known all through Louisville. They all played at Trinity HS, National Catholic Powerhouse, where Brohms father is the QB coach right now. Trinity has very good academics, so I don't think you'll have any worries on that end of things.

Coaching wise, you get Jeff, younger brother Brian (QB coach) and older brother Greg. It truly is a family operation for them.

You also get coaches that have played for and coached under some of the best. Amazing offenses. You'll have no problem scoring points.

Brohm uses a strategy he learned from Petrino called "feed the studs". Each year the offense is tailored to best utilize and exploit your best players. While at Louisville the first time, Jeff was QB coach, Brian was the QB and Michael Bush was a monster back (career cut short by injury). Petrino and Jeff used the feed the studs approach for those two and it was an amazing display of offense.

So expect a lot of fireworks. I don't know what kind of defense Purdue has, so I can't speak to what he'll do there, but I guarantee you it will be a fun ride.

Thanks for the background info. Couldn't be more excited for the future of the Boilermaker program under Brohm!

Everything I've read about him sounds great. Defense will have to be a priority for the new staff. Purdue ranked last nationally in 3rd down conversion defense this year. Our guys literally could not get the opposing offense off the field.

one step at a time, got the first one in place. With the Brohm's , sounds alot like the Stoops.

I don't doubt we will have a good offense, it's his defense that worries me. If we can't stop anyone.... I just hope the 1st move is to bring in an outstanding DC.

Yep, that would be me. How do you know me?
I was once a frequent poster on the "Nulls" forum as Boilerbuilder. In fact you outed my identity although I'm still not sure how you pulled that off. This was back in the day when Rick Pitino changed the name of Porcini's to Porkini's.

Hey Boiler, how the hell are ya? Haven't seen you terrorizing any boards lately. :)

@genghis_card @Kratz what can we expect from him as a recruiter?

Recruits very well at the level he's at. Pulled in a lot of 3 stars at WKU, not an easy thing to do. I'd expect the same at Purde: He'll recruit well at the Purdue level. Good at finding diamonds in the rough. His relationship with Petrino also helps his recruiting. Petrino would steer recruits to him. Also, if a player at UofL got recruited over and lost his playing time, some would transfer to WKU. 2 of WKUs starters on defense were UofL transfers. Not to be insulting but UofL is recruiting at a higher level than Purdue right now. We have Lamar Jackson for another year, and two 4 star true freshmen QB's on the bench redshirting, plus another 4 star QB coming in next year. I suspect they won't all stay, and history says Petrino will tell them that transferring to play under Brohm is a really good option for them.

Don't get me wrong, Brohm can recruit well. He's intense, tenacious and wants to win at everything he does. But having Petrino as an ally doesn't hurt either.

My only concern would be the region. Brohms recruiting ties are in the south. He'll have to hire a couple of assistants with midwestern ties until he can get himself established in that area.

He'll also pull a kid or two out of Louisville every year. With his ties to Trinity (major national power house and his dad is the QB coach there) and UofL he has all the cred he needs in this city. He got Anthony Wales out of Louisville a couple of years ago and if you watched the WKU game on Saturday you saw how good he was.

Congrats on your hire, nobody at WKU wanted to see him go. Brohm is a high class guy that does things the right way and while we are upset, nobody is mad at coach Brohm. I will continue to follow Brohm as he brings Purdue into the top half of your conference...... Plain and simple ..... He is a winner

Thanks for the kind words. You guys have a very impressive program and we're all thrilled to have Brohm.

I'm doing well. Seems like U of L and Purdue are opposites. You guys are doing very well in all athletics while your administration is the scum of the earth: president resigns, Board of Trustees chock full of filth, hush money to VPs when they retire, Dean of Education in jail for stealing grant money, two other health care administrators under investigation for stealing federal grant money.

Purdue's adminisration is squeaky clean but our football is hind teat. That's life.

Lol...damn. Spot on tho.

Don't forget about the whores!

Yep, we need some cleaning up in the admin department, no doubt about it. It's slowly getting done. But on the flip side, we still have the best AD in the business and very successful teams across the board. Lifes not all bad. Top 15 in football, likely Heisman winner, top 15 in mens and womens hoops. Soccer team in the elite 8. Good chance at CWS in baseball again this year. Not too bad for a "commuter school", eh?

To the rest of you, the Boris and I go way back. He used to like to stop by UofL boards and stir the pot. Lots of good natured ribbing, and a little not so good natured. LOL. He's a man of his word though. We made a bet on something. I won and he mailed me the money.

To add to what Kratz said- Brohm will recruit Florida because that's what he knows. (And that is a very good thing.) He will recruit other places in the southeast, but don't expect Texas or out west.

However....Brohm understands that getting in state kids is fundamental, and with the state of IU football (And Illinois for that matter) I'm thinking he will find some fertile ground close to home.

Probably as weak a pick as the new AD could have made. Let's see....Les Miles or the triplet Brohm brothers. Sorry, this is not an exciting pick at all. IU fires Wilson who has turned their program around, and then hires a former Indiana HS coach with great ties to the state.

TD2, I know you have posted the info before so apologies in advance (I dont want to search for it). Obviously Miles was you #1 pick, did you have others you preferred as well ahead of Brohm?

I am stoked for the hire myself. So we disagree on your assessment of the new coach. Just wondering who the others were you wanted?

No comprende. Want to explain yourself? Who did you expect, Lou Saban?

You're saying you would have preferred Miles? Baffling. Less has been fading, thus his firing. My guess is he will suck up few million somewhere before he retires in two or three years with little fanfare. Think Fred Akers.

Did you really want Les "Promote myself" Miles? He's over the hill and his offense was old in Pop Warner's days.

His offense is also predicated on having a massive and talented o-line like I have never seen at Purdue with a second team line of equal capability.
Not sure he could have recruited that here at this point in his career.

I do suspect there was at least one conversation with Miles. And I'm glad his price was probably too rich for us. I'll take Brohm and his offense over Miles any day.

Yeah, because ground-and-pound has always worked so well here.

I'm not saying that TD's views are right or wrong but I will say he is the only one I've seen to not like it. I do think it is "exciting" for the fan base as a whole.

I'm sure most are excited, but I just don't see all that much with Brohm. As I stated before, he's won with the other guy's recruits, and for what I consider a third tier coach, Purdue should have been able to do better. I'm no Charlie Strong fan, but I'd take him over the Brohm brothers. I hope I'm wrong, but I think MB2 screwed the pooch on this one, and with the price, you can't afford to replace him if I am right. Just my opinion.
