Wrinkles for Iowa

Brohm and staff are playing things close to the vest. But if history is any indication, they have some wrinkles ready, whether it is formations, personnel usage, trick plays, etc. What sort of wrinkles do you think we might see in the Iowa game?

I'm going out on a limb and say Marcellus Moore lining up in the backfield for a series in Q2 and taking a couple handoffs, trying to hit that home run play. Also, a redzone package for Austin Burton where they use his legs, maybe on a roll out. These are based on nothing more than my imagination.

I dont think we will M. Moore this early in the year. When ever he is discussed, the words Coach him up are used.

It's interesting to see Marcellus' name brought up.

Not sure the viability of using him in the backfield, but Brohm was "lamenting" the lack of a really quick back. Sounds like he recognizes we have power runners, but not the type of RBs to get to the edge and create problems.

Marcellus could be the answer to that. Find a way to get him the ball in space.

Unless, of course, he's viewed as a risk for turning over the ball.

In HS he had a lot of success on the jet sweep. No reason to think he couldn't do the same in college, with his unbelievable speed.

Rondale in the slot, Bell wide out, and Piferi at TE on the same side at the snap with Paul on the line.

Fake handoff up the middle, backward pass to Piferi who looks for Bell down the sideline or Moore breaking to the middle.

Tirek Murphy should have plenty of speed to get to the edge. He runs a 4.5 40.

Maybe Tirek's not ready for prime time yet? Between him and Rondale on jet sweeps, we should be good on handling the ball.

I think MM sees the field before Tirek because he has something unique to offer. My thought process is that things like ball security, blocking, and knowledge of the offense are very important for an every down player. King and Zander have that covered. But if you have a 'specialist' i.e. speed merchant subbing in for a specific package and set of plays, the playcalling can mask his deficiencies and take advantage of the blazing speed. So, no slow developing pass plays or running between the tackles for a minute. When the defense catches on (if you haven't scored first) you revert back to your standard personnel packages.
