Wiltfong on Coach Brohm

I've said for awhile that Purdue is a good job. Really hungry fanbase but even if you win 8 wins a year, they'll build a statue of you. At most places that gets you run out of town.

Would you rather take your chances against Iowa and Wisconsin or Bama and LSU? Get to the title game and anything can happen.

Where is Tiller's statue?

It may be a lot about the money, but not just money for Brohm. It’s a lot about money to keep that coaching staff intact, and also the support staff.

Think you hit the nail on the head.

Even if Louisville scrapes up enough to buy out Bobby and hire Jeff, they are already 25+ million in the hole before there’s a discussion about the coaching staff.

If Purdue promotes from with in (I’m kinda warming to the Holt idea) then Purdue can move key staff up in title and offer more money (Poindexter, Barclay, Shepherd, etc) to keep some continuity. Loyalty to one coach is nice. Getting 50,000 more in salary is nicer though.

Having said all that, I don’t think he goes. He’ll stick around Purdue for 3-5 more years before moving to a blue blood or NFL

Holt should not be the head coach if Brohm leaves. An offensive mind needs to be the head coach at Purdue to take advantage of the cradle of quarterbacks.

I love what Nick Holt has done with the defense and am excited to see what he can do with the team they are building on defense. However, I don’t believe he’s a P5 head coach at this point in his career.

Perfect world is Shep advance over time and learns from Brohm. Then he can move in to the job when and if Brohm leaves. This plan needs Jeff to hang around a good while though.

Essentially, two reasons why Brohm would not take the Louisville job.

One: Louisville currently doesn’t have the ability to break their coaches contract, pay Purdue’s buyout, and offer him a big enough contract to lure him away.

Two: why leave Purdue? He doesn’t go into that much, but Purdue is a better job right now. The rebuild is coming along nicely, the ‘19 class, the fans, and his family loves it. Brohm developed a special bond with Tyler Trent and the whole community. Brohm has showed he can win here and the fans have shown they are all in. That OSU game atmosphere was incredible. Hasn’t been like that since the Tiller years. Packed house and unlocked some previous sellouts the overwhelming majority was Purdue fans and they were very vocal!

Not mentioned, but there aren’t many teams that could offer a dollar amount that the AD wouldn’t match. You will likely see Coach Brohm get another raise and a ridiculous one if Purdue wins the West. The whole staff has earned a raise. Hopefully Purdue can get that buyout up around 7 million dollars.
Sounds like you're having a "case if wishful thinking". Louisville has a lot more to offer socially and financially, plus it's "home". If Da'Ville can come up with buyout money, he's gone like a fart in a tornado.

This seems like an opinion. I respect yours. I think Louisville’s timing may be to early.

You weren’t sold on Brohm as a big-time coach. You finally coming around?

Financially I’m going to disagree with. They have just around 13.5 million in their endowment athletic funds, after paying off their old AD. Also they have a long court battle coming up with Pitino.

Purdue has Big Ten money which is going to increase over time and no legal woes coming up.

Precisely what is it you think L'ville offers socially that would be appealing to Brohm?

Every report is that he's a pretty simple kind of guy.

And "financially??" That's a really odd claim, considering how well it's been documented the financial challenges they have.
