12 points to Rutgers. This Nebraska team is no peach either. The defense has to carry the team unquestionably. Much of the problem is telegraphic offense. You look at that fake punt today sadly the best play besides the same trick play we always run. Try something new. These are college kids for god's sakes they can figure out new tricks. Nothing pisses me off more that doing the same crap out there expecting a different result. That is the definition of insanity. Redesign the offense already. This isn't rocket science. Why is that so hard? These plans are almost as telegraphic as Hazell. Five wide? Anything new. This was a giveaway game. So was Rutgers. These coaches are being paid millions of dollars here.

The last game Purdue won was Minny. We had over 300 yards passing. Since then Purdue has dropped 3 games in a row two of which should have been won, one of which was a joke loss to Rutgers. Less than 200 yards passing against Rutgers, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Michigan. Purdue cannot pass the ball. When you pass you win. If you can't get 200 passing yards it's a loss. It is a simple equation. Less than 200 yards passing = 100 percent loss ratio. It's good to have a running game, but it is meaningless if you can't pass. Rutgers a case point example.

I agree. The offense has really dropped off especially on passing. We should have put up passing yards on Rutgers and Nebraska but didn't. The play calling is getting too predictable and conservative.

The playbook is limited for a number of factors:

1: Inability of Wr’s to make plays consistently
2: inability to make plays, especially downfield, creates problems as teams stack the box.
3: Stacking the box allows the defense to then play press man coverage on the outside.
4: this forces Purdue to throw short routes that require timing and good hands
5: WR’s again with issues catching the ball
6: those inabilities stacked up lead to limited choices in playcalls
7: playcalls are also limited because I believe most guys haven’t been able to pickup the playbook as quickly as Brohm thought that they could.

It is year one and hopefully with guys returning next season, they’ll build off what they know already. Issue is going to be the defense and still not having any reliable deep threats to stretch the field which opens up the shorter routes for guys like Wright and Anthrop.

Do we not have any tight ends anymore? Early in the year we were throwing a lot more to them and now it is like never. I can't believe how many drops I saw tonight by our WRs.

Albert Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting a different result.

Hence........and that is Purdue play calling.

Don’t ignore a post that explained the issues for you and keep trying not to rationalize the agenda you are attempting to push...sounds an awful lot like your own definition of insanity.

Agreed. Plus, Brohm is responsible for installing HIS system. As he's discussed, it's wide and varied with the ability to do many things (as a HS coach I absolutely loved seeing the dead T formation down near the goal line). We've seen a ton of things that he has done. His system is very flexible and he is doing his best to find what works with what we have. He can't and shouldn't just scrap everything and change for the sake of right now (although I can't even think of what else he could possible install that he hasn't already unless he wanted to go wing-t). He wants to win now, but is also building for the future. Those are important things to keep in mind and consider.

The passing game is just not working. It hasn't worked in years. I don't put this on ability. It is performing exactly how it's designed to. Rutgers completely shut Purdue's passing down. Very little down the field passing. As a defense you couldn't ask for a better passing team to defend.

You watch what Ohio State did to PSU. 350 yards passing, but much of it was just well designed plays. Ohio State every receiver has a purpose. Purdue just sends half baked route with a guy jogging in some direction while the defensive back just knows who's getting the ball and goes straight to him. It's a bad design. I can't even put this on the QB except in certain instances.

Overall it's the complete lack of a down the field passing game which has basically ended any relevance to the season. Oh whippedy doo.... we improved from a Hazell 3 win team 1 big ten win to a same season just closer score 3 win team 1 big ten win season. We have 1 big ten win. If that was the season goal well we've certainly achieved. I can't even remember but did Hazell ever get more than 1 big ten win in a season?
