Who's going to be the new IU coach

Not at all. Of course context matters. But the context for Collins is that he took over a terrible program and is 37% in conference. Im not sure why you think he’s a viable choice for the top open spot (unless UNC opens up) nationally.

I’m also not sure why you think Dixon would be a viable hire for the top opening in the nation; he’s a 60 year old that in the past ten years has won a low of 12 to a max of 24 games in a season. He’s in danger of being fired from TCU.

But you’re certainly entitled to your opinion.
Collins and Dixon have maxed out the potential at the programs they have been at. Dixon is NOT getting fired🤣.

By your reasoning, Porter Moser and Brian Dutcher are better coaches.

“Maxed out?” You do realize that this will be the ELEVENTH STRAIGHT YEAR that Dixon hasn’t broken .500 in conference? He’s been at TCU for nine years and has never been above .500 in conference there.

How would a Purdue basketball fan feel if their coach went eleven straight seasons without breaking .500 in conference?

Like I said, you’re entitled to your opinion on Dixon, but he seems like a hard guy to defend as a candidate for a job that there will be a lot of competition for.

He’s been to the last 3 NCAA tournaments, which no one has ever done at TCU before.

IU’s last 2 coaches didn’t make 3 NCAA tournaments between them.

He’d be a huge upgrade.

You keep mentioning his age, but 59 isn’t old compared to the geezers you currently have as the Football and Basketball Head Coaches.

Dusty May didn’t give an emphatic no when asked about it, Mich is a football school, if I had to bet I’d say he’s the next Coach there. Also, I had IU plus the 3.5 today, in all my years of gambling that was my most fortunate win, I guarentee Vegas was a free for all after that shot from 60 feet went in.

Wow. Okay —so your point is that IU should be happy with a guy that finishes at or below .500 in a tough conference, but makes the tourney as a terrible seed sometimes.

You owe Leal some NIL

You are so wrong so often about so many things, that you posting this gives me more hope that Stevens is in play!

So thanks (?)

PS: Gates is a really good coach that is near the top of the SEC right now. So if he was the guy that would be a huge upgrade.
🤣😎🤣😎🤣

Cool! Chick fight between our indinia interlopers— pass the popcorn!!!

Oh the irony of this coming from you.
Check out the Iowa or usc board? Do any of them care what happens at IU? No. You care more about what happens at IU than the real IU fans! Your IU related posts double theirs. Go to the. Alabama board! Do you see any posts about IU?

I rest my case! Nobody cares about IU or Woodson other than you and your friends!

There are more things in life than worrying about IU basketball. They have enough fans. Let them worry about their team. They don’t need your help. If you want to talk about IU basketball, go to their board!

Oops I forgot, you were banned so you can’t talk about IU basketball on their board.

The type of coach you want - day 1 comes in updates their jerseys and removes the stars on the back. Tell them only way to move forward is to stop living in the past.

Day 2 - takes the hysterics out back and puts them in a shallow grave.

Day 3 - goes to the bars with pictures of the players and tell them to deny them access to their facilities unless it is a sanctioned team event.
Day 4 - lose the pants.

That feels like trolling.
Dixon wins more than others have done at the same school. And he’d do the same at IU.

He went to 11 out of 13 NCAAs at Pitt. They’ve made it to 1 out of the last 7.

When he got to TCU, they had been to ONE NCAA in the previous 28 seasons. He’s been to 4 of the last 6.

He’d be the best coach (non cheating division) IUs had since Knight.

IU isn’t the in state rival for any of those teams.

You talk about Ohio state here more than anyone. Go to Alabama, USC or Iowa boards and none of them are talking about Ohio state! If you want to talk about it Ohio state, go their board!

You care. You keep posting in threads about IU. You are so obsessed, you couldn't stop yourself if you wanted to.

Well for one, IU and FSU are currently the only P5 openings. 😉

But beyond that?
  • NIL budget
  • Salary
  • Extreme fan interest
  • NIL budget
  • Legacy program
  • Conference affiliation and income
  • NIL budget
  • No problem with player admission standards
  • Facilities
  • No recent program defining coach
  • Good AD and Pres who support fully
  • Lifestyle
  • Program budget
  • Revenue producing, complementary football & women’s hoops teams that don’t overshadow
  • NIL budget, and finally…

Currently. Still lots of games left for coaches to lose jobs. As for NIL money, lots of programs have that. What does lifestyle have to do with IU? Facilities...IU has improved those but so have other schools. Duke? UNC? St. Johns with Pitino? UCLA?

See, you're like most IU fans who think IU is Mecca. As for that, it's not.

Fan interest has waned beginning with the hiring and subsequent firing of Davis and has continued with the weak hires following that.

Would you rather have the Purdue fans in Mackey, or the IU crowd currently in Ass Hall?

And Knight's shadow will linger and linger. He set the standards.

As for conference players don't care about that today as much. When is the last time you heard a player say, "I just want to play at IU because they're in the B10?" Or SEC or any other conference?

Since NIL seems to be the most important factor, every available coach should hold out for the Brigham Young job to open up. If they don't win a national championship soon, it should happen.

The only other factor you listed that puzzles me is "lifestyle". Is the Bloomington, Indiana lifestyle really a big draw? I'd never heard that.

Exactly. If it were such a great a program, why have they continued to only hire crappy coaches?
Great point. My opinion?

1. Clearly Woodson was largely a nepotism hire.

2. Neither crappy Archie nor Woodson hires were during the NIL and big revenue contract B1G era.

And I didn’t mean to infer that Bloomington is some uniquely beautiful area above any other, but it’s certainly a very pretty area and would appeal to coaches that have families or don’t want an ultra urban vibe.

Are iu fans really holding out hope for Stevens? I'm assuming Stevens just laughs any time someone mentions this to him.

Appreciate the response. I think the last part was to someone else? Since you brought it up (and apologies if this comes off harsh, but) the whole Bloomington being "nice" as a draw indicates a person who has never really left the state or just promotes incorrect rhetoric. There are dozens of high-end college locations around the country in nicer areas and nicer weather than in IN.

Not harsh at all.

I’ve lived all over the US and traveled internationally a ton. Bloomington is not everything to everyone; doesn’t have the food of NYU, the campus beauty of Dartmouth, the history of BU/Emerson/Suffolk U, or the Sept-April weather of Coral Gables/U Miami, but for a big state school it is damn leafy/pretty and has pretty good housing stock, low crime, diversity with foreign students, excellent outdoors areas, etc.

And has Stevens actually said in the last 2 years he wants to coach ncaa bball?
Please keep in mind; I am NOT saying that Stevens will go to IU!

But you asked, so here’s an answer.

Forget about Shrews saying he thinks Stevens will coach again. Here’s a one year old video of Stevens:
