I am fine with criticism, but I also have the right to push back with claims that I see as an over reaction to a current situation. There are a lot of fans who lose perspective when players don’t meet their expectations and I will counter that when I see it.

This is a discussion board. These are big boys, essentially professional athletes now. They can handle the criticism if they're not producing. Comes with the territory of playing under the bright lights and on TV.
So, for a point of discussion: Should a player get criticized if his shooting % is very low yet he keeps shooting instead of giving up looks to try and get someone who's shooting better a look?
I'd say so. Colvin did that a lot the last game though many parts of his overall game were a bit better.
I agree now that they are paid professionals criticizing them now goes with the territory.
If Myles, cam or hell even ETHAN Morton are WIDE OPEN, they HAVE to take that shot. If they don’t, there’s no reason for them to play at this level.
Quite a few of Colvins shots have gone in and out. He has to keep shooting to get out of the slump or else his confidence level will be down to Morton’s and that makes him completely unplayable/4 v5 on offense. Myles is more than capable of hitting those shots and Painter wouldn’t play him if he didn’t think he could.
Exactly. I’m sure Painter is telling him to fire away and it really appears as if Braden was trying to feed him in the USC game.
Totally agree. Myles can play at this level and so can Cam. They need to see some shots go down but are contributing in other ways that is helping the team out greatly. If they can combine for 2 3s a game in the tournament with the other typical production from starters, We will be tough to beat.

Do you think Painter plays a role, or do you believe he just send them out there to do what they want?

Nailed it. Painter touched on it last week, this staff is evaluating each with the players after every game. Every player know what shots the staff wants them taking and what shots they don’t. We can agree or disagree but MP and staff want Myles and Cam shooting on those open looks.
I want them shooting them too because they have and will make them.
They just need to start doing that more.

Agreed. If they (collectively) hit the open shots in our offense, we are a very tough out.
But if he keeps missing at the rate he's doing, Painter will have no choice but to limit his playing time even more. You can't shoot 26% and expect to play unless you have another saving grace. Several of Myle's shots were wide, and of the three he it one was a dunk. One of the many he missed was another dunk.
How long are you as a coach going to continue to let him miss that many? Where's the cut off line?
He has been loathe to give Colvin the tiniest bit of credit for anything even areas where he clearly showed improvement. Then cloaks it in "I want him to succeed" rhetoric. Ooh so brave. He even said after last season that he expected more from Waddell than Colvin this year. Soooo factor that in when you read his opinions.
Painter even talked about how he went through his own slump where he went 1 for 19 from three. I love that he is process based and judges by the quality of the shot.
A lot of us are very thankful you are not the coach of this team.
But let’s play your game. By your logic, Myles should be benched and not play and so far your “solutions” show you have no clue wha you’re talking about. But I will ask, Who should play in his spot? And don’t say Waddell. You have also said Berg should get more mins than Myles. Which just shows you (for some reason) just don’t like Myles. We have seen Berg cannot play at this level, but you still post an outlandish comment like that.
You continue to say Myles defense is not good, but in fact, Paint and staff continue to have him guard the other team’s best backcourt player. And in regards to “where’s the cutoff line?” I am almost 100% sure that Paint would be MORE mad at Myles for not taking an open shot because Myles can shoot. We all can see that, but you can’t for some reason?
You call yourself a coach—high school baseball coach I believe. I would think you would understand that players each have a role. I guarantee your 1-9 hitters did not all hit .350+ and you didn’t bench a guy cuz he didn’t have his average around there throughout the season. In another scenario I bet you didn’t bench one of your better defensive infielders if he was going through a midseason slump at the plate. Especially, if that guy showed you previously that he could have his average around there.

No, it was deeper than that. True, he's stilla huge RMK fan. Twin's wife was a huge Purdue fan. She tragically died at a young age and he switched his allegiance to honor her.

The sum total of their contributions must be positive or one of the best coaches in the country would not have them on the floor.
It's evident that your reading comprehension is lacking. I've stated Myles is playing a bit better but not where you claim him to be and not where many on here think he should be. I'm not the only one questioning his abilities. As for Waddel, would we see a lot of difference if the MPG were even (see below). And I've NEVER said Berg should be getting Myle's minutes, but I have said I'd like to see him play more and I would. And again, you prove that you either outright lie or misrepresent other's statements. I have no personal animosity toward Myles, other than his poor showings on the court and have said that I hope he can somehow improve. Sophomore jinx? Maybe.
Can he really shoot that well? He's hitting less than 38% overall, less than 29% from three, and 60% from the line. And he's averaging 18 minutes a game. As a comparison, you want to bring up Waddel, who in 5mpg is hitting at 57 FGA, 75% from 3, and 75% from the line. I know it's clean up. Should Waddell be getting more PT? based on his stats? Let's see what Myles does next time out.
As for the baseball analogy, you are right with some of it. But if I had a kid who was hitting the equivalent of what Myles is hitting and was lacking in other areas, you can bet your last dollar he's not going to be in the line up long.
Oh, and what I think is a very important number is Myles is tied with Furst for the fourth most minutes per game on the team. More than Cox, Heide, Gicarri, Waddell, or anyone else. He's getting the time needed to prove what some of us believe he should be doing.
As a coach, playing time was earned with me, just as respect is earned. If a player wasn't earning his keep, he was replaced until he showed that he wanted it bad enough to earn his keep and was willing to do what it took to make the team better. No matter who his family was, no matter who his grandparents were.
I understand that CMP is playing Myles to get him time to see what he can do. I'll be surprised if CMP keeps playing him 18 mpg if he keeps shooting the way he is.

It's a lie. I''m not an IU fan. I was until the RMK debacle and the Davis curse and the Sampscum chithole. I've always liked Painter...my son played against him, and he coaches a lot like Knight did. My wife was a diehard Boiler, and the more I watched them, the more I liked the consistency and discipline of the program.

These players have faced public criticism since they were in 8th grade. Just look at their player profiles on public national recruiting sites. Those profiles are not just highlight reels. They also include criticism and analysis about their talents and also their flaws.
Why should Purdue fans always and only discuss a player’s positive aspects? If a player has flaws in their game, it’s already a part of public record.

Did you not post these? And why do you say Berg just needs confidence in his shot and don't give the same leeway for Myles?
These are just snippets of your comments about Myles not being any good and not deserving of minutes. But you think Berg deserves more mins. What's crazy, is that for some reason, the coaching staff COMPLETELY disagrees with you. They must not know what they are doing right?
One more thing, just to clarify...so if someone has a stretch (let's say 10 games) where they shoot under 30% from 3 and (according to you) don’t play defense that well, they should have their mins reduced and not shoot as much. That’s what you are stating, correct?
