Who's going to be the new IU coach

I personally think Beard is Taylor made for it, and IU is desperate enough to look past the baggage and make a run for him. He's as close to Bobby as they come, and has experience at a similar NIL driven school at Texas. Best of both worlds for them.

He's choked the last few times he's played Purdue though.....

McCasland and Oltzenberger are other good candidates IMO. They need a guy who retains and builds program and gets away from NIL to recruit first mindset. Get guys to commit IU first talk about NIL after they produce. They will never say it, but they need a guy who runs program like Painter.

Beard's a southern guy, Texas guy to be exact, not sure if Indiana has the draw to him.

Every time the job opens, you hear a list of big names and then you end up with an underwhelming hire. I expect that to continue.

Yep, meet the new coach same as the old coach.

Beard coached with the Knights.

Otz ain’t leaving Iowa State. Wife is from Iowa, Iowa state women’s bball legend…he’s building a good program there and I can’t see him leaving.

Beard. Dude wants the job.

Priority list...

1. Stevens
2. Beard

It won't make it past that. Beard would walk his butt from Oxford to Bloomington. And I think he could absolutely win. He was good at Arkansas Little Rock, Texas Tech, had Texas Top 10 and has been good at Ole Miss.

If somehow it made it past 2 and Beard didn't accept...

3. May
4. Ben McCollum

IU’s OK with their head basketball coach choking people, er I mean motivating and repositioning them, so that checks out.

Well two on that list are certain nos. Stevens and May. Stevens no reason he’d consider it and May ain’t leaving Michigan after one year to coach at IU, it’s a thankless job!

Come on now, we all know it's going to be this guy:

I mean they've told us for years that he is basically begging to come there.

Don’t think there is anyway in hell the President approves Beard to coach. Not happening with his history - regardless of what happened. Last thing they want is that controversy. So you are on to 3 - that ship sailed last year. Looks like #4

Beard would be an ideal hire but not sure they want a fan base divided because of the off-court issues.

Dusty - missed the boat last year. Not sure I see them going after a coach in conference.

Brad - they will toss out a number but doubtful they get him.

Pearl - not sure I see it happening. Having great success at a play not known for basketball success to jump into the pressure cooker of IU? Call me skeptical.

The name they get will be someone a lot of us say "who?" Perhaps that is the best for them to actually get a solid restart.

I don't even have Pearl on my list. I'd take him without any doubt, I just don't think there is anyway he leaves Auburn now.

Agree with McCollum. Would be my top choice. He is a winner. Drake 21-2 in first season. Home run!

We just know that if somehow Indiana got Stevens, the college basketball world would crap its pants.
There's a lot of nostalgic exaggeration related to Stevens. Obviously, it's insanely awesome that he took tiny Butler to consecutive championship games. But he coached 2 seasons at Butler beyond that run and went 22-15 and went to the NIT in 2012 and with 27-9 and lost on the first weekend in 2013.

in the 2010 run, Butler needed a little fortune late to get by Murray State in the 2nd round and then beat Syracuse without their center in the Sweet 16 and then K-State coming off an insane 2OT game against Xavier like 36 hours earlier.

In 2011, they needed a last second Matt Howard bucket to get out of the 1st round. And it round 2, Pitt missed a free throw that would have likely given them the win with a second or 2 left and a Pitt guy inexplicably fouled Matt Howard on the rebound. In the Elite 8, Florida had great looks in regulation and OT that would have likely given them the win.

Not to mention, incoming recruits were 4 the last time he coached in the Final Four.

Dude has a great reputation but some act like he walks on water.

We’ve all seen this story before. Big names get mentioned and then they say no and IU ends up hiring the next four year coach.

Re: Stevens

Hasn't coached in years. Hasn't coached in college in over a decade.

He's still really young for a coach so I guess he may still have the fire, but man that's a long time without coaching let alone coaching in college. Not sure if there's been a successful coach/exec leave (not fired) the job to come back to college and coach.

If he comes to IU and is not successful, talk about deflating. The IU fan base may never recover from that.

How dare you interrupt the Indinia stroke fest with facts!

He's going to be getting calls after this year I think. Was a 4x champ at the D2 level. Clearly he knows what he is doing. Give him the resources, would be interesting to see.

Yea going through the tourney takes a lot of luck. It's also very difficult. I figured a Purdue fan would understand that.
