Friday, Feb 7, 2025 OFN: IU Board of Educators released a statement today indicating that current IU Football, Coach Curt Cignetti, would also coach the Men's Basketball team. They highlighted his strong aversion to Purdue and familiarity with IU sports but not that of basketball as key hiring factors. The BoE went on to comment that it makes good financial sense as IU is still paying their four previous coaches. The BoE went on to say, "Coach Cignetti had a terrific football season in his first year. Though he didn't win against anyone with a winning record, neither has our basketball team." There was some confusion among the IU staff as when he was questioned about the decision, Coach Cignetti said, "basketball? I haven't coached basketball at the college level before." The IU BoE was quick to point out that, "it is clear that neither had their previous coaches".

In his first act as IU MBB coach, Coach Cignetti overhauled the 2025-26 schedule to ensure any team with more than 8 wins over the last two years were replaced "with more qualified schools" that IU could better compete against, such as local high schools or those from Div III school.
