*Hi/Low Rankings

Hi/Low = The highest and lowest ranking each team has held during the designated season. Any team that starts the season unranked and/or falls out of the top 25 during the season will reflect a "NR" (not ranked) designation as its lowest rank.

Others Receiving Votes
Florida 30; Oklahoma State 21; Maryland 20; Arkansas 15; Miami (Fla.) 13; Virginia Tech 8; Wichita State 7; Middle Tennessee 7; Seton Hall 7; California 7; TCU 6; Texas Tech 3; Nevada 2; Colorado 2; Michigan State 1; Minnesota 1; Valparaiso 1.

How in the world does Meatchicken State get any votes? And how is UCLA still stuck behind 'Nova?

The national voters have us pegged as the 15th best team. We have basically upheld that rank. People will move round us until we prove we're better (or worse) than 15th. We are not in the national spotlight. Voters will check to see how we did, and they will leave us alone until something shocks them. It will take a lot for us to move into the top ten because the majority of national voters don't think we belong there. And please ... no logic allowed in replies to this post.
OK no logic...
That's ridiculous! We beat everyone on our schedule that were ranked except the two we didn't.
WE didn't lose to IPFW!
The voters hate us because we are so big! So do the refs!
We should get a ranking credit for terrible coaching!
We could win out and end up a 9 seed!
Now slightly logical...
Moving up from here will come from puting together long win streaks with no back to back losses anywhere. Any single losses need to happen mid week so we get a win that next weekend so the last score they see before voting is a W. It sounds silly but since voters don't watch the games they vote on, stupid stuff matters.

Oracle of Delphi Wisdom = Stupid stuff does matter ..... So, we will be the weekly non-mover ... 15 forever. There was a song like that, wasn't there .... Jonny Mellencamp describing his beloved Hoosiers .... 18 forever?

Because voters are all over the nation, don't pay attention to those below the blue bloods out of their region (and UCLA is not a blueblood now), and MSU is.

Anybody getting tired of the Wisky love from the media and their ranking? Two losses as well against top 10 teams same as us but double digit losses. Haven't watched them yet, Kaminsky and Dekker must be having great years for them.

Ranking affects seeding and perception of how people look at Purdue. If you don't have a national title in your shelf, you better get a good image at all times. I believe Tom Crean is an expert in this area. Are you saying there is no difference in ranking between #1 vs #99?

Ranking has ZERO effect on seeding.

Zero.

Being ranked 12 or 15 or 18 has no effect on perception. Winning in March is all that matters.

Yes, end of season rankings aren't part of the selection committee's criteria (quality wins, bad losses, W/L record in final 5 games before teams are selected, SOS, RPI, overall W/L record, "eye test" are all things that are considered) but they're fun for fans to follow when their favorite team is in the top 10, 20, or 25.

We don't have much of an opportunity to move up because there aren't a lot of teams in the BIG above us. But wins against IU and Wisky would impress the voters and the selection committee. But not so much at home. Road wins against top 50 teams would help.

I thought our ceiling was 12-6 in conference, but if we do that I think we are a 5 seed again. Can we get to 13-5 or better? Only way I see us getting a 4 seed or better.

If they can keep winning and teams above falter, they will move up. I think it just depends on how good they can really be in conference play (and in the conference tourney).

I think that showed last year with Purdue's seeding given Purdue was ranked (can't honestly remember exactly) between 11th and 14th but got a 5 seed (17th to 20th best team).

How clever.

Did you just get on the internets this year?! Because that hilariously witty spelling of Michigan was completely played out about 10 years ago.

Just an FYI so you can brush up on your tronning. You're welcome.

seems harsh
