When I'm wrong, I'm wrong......

Man, if we only took more investment chances.

I had a chance to purchase a few lots on Hamilton Lake (Crystal Cove) sometime ago. The price for each lot was 28k and you had to be on the 'list'. Well, a friend was the broker on the deal and I was at the #2 spot but my wife wasn't huge on the deal because my in-laws were on Clear lake and she believed we didn't need it. Now one of those lots are up for $290k.
there was one very similar called the diplomat in cocoa beach. could have picked these up all day for around 28k 15-20 years ago. Were very small...but they would make a good rental

We live on Hamilton Lake. Crystal bay and cove have filled up recently, but there were many years that the lots sat empty. Those that purchased and stayed patient have been rewarded for sure!

Hey, no need to beat yourself up on real estate purchases you should have made. I've been investing in real estate for over 25 years and there has been plenty of - Would've, Could've, Should've during the time period.

Check out the Florida market today. People during the 2020-2022 boom overpaid for property because of the airbnb market or flat-out thought it was a good investment. We now know that market is oversaturated, higher HOA fees for insurance policies and that market still hasn't hit 'rock bottom' yet.
but this spot was unique....deep water lot in our current neighborhood.

Best not to look at that stuff. It will drive you crazy.

In 2015 or 2016, I was looking at a small condo in Hilton Head. Nothing fancy, just a 2 BR, 2 Bath about 100 yards from the beach. They were selling for about $150K in one of the complexes we liked. Not sure why we didn't pull the trigger.

I looked a year or two ago and the same complex and size condos were selling for $420K.

I likened him to Scotty Skiles. Skiles was not a tremendous athlete and he was also short. But there was just something about him that spelled competitor and success.

Smith is a floor general. And a coach on the court . Those are very rare qualities. That requires more than just athleticism!

Despite his lack of physical abilities, Skiles Had a very successful college career and a pretty good NBA career.

I believe with both Skiles and Smith, their success is ultimately connected to their college coaches and style of play. They are/were the perfect fit for their coaches system.

In a different system and a different coach both players may not have been as successful.

I liked and respected Skiles a lot even though he never played for Purdue
I was thinking about Skiles make up and Smith there is no doubt about Smith point guard ability if keep up his shooting range and look a little more for his shot some team will take a shot at him

Wow....gotta say, I'm really glad I was so wrong about Smith. As many of you know, I was not a fan of his recruitment. I didn't think he had the size, speed, athleticism to compete at this level. He's not only proven me wrong, but he's being mentioned in the POY and All-American conversation. That's just...incredible.
I haven't been this wrong since I passed on buying a bunch of Bitcoin when it was about $2000.......
Congrats Braden, and congrats Coach Painter on a helluva find.
You want to know the truth?, he is leaps and bounds better than the iu golden boy Damon Baily.

Love that movie.

Favorite scene is the flying knockout punch on the guy who tried to stiff Marissa Tomei in the pool game.

Speaking of Smith, he played all 80 minutes in the two games out west and never really looked tired. In addition to everything else he brings to the table, he must have Iron Man like conditioning to be able to pull that off.
Someone else mentioned how many minutes Braden has played this year and expressed concern. I mentioned that Matt doesn't see it as an issue, but Braden looked like it caught up with him last night. Maybe that was just an off game for Braden that didn't relate to fatigue from playing a ton of minutes and coming off of the West Coast road trip, but I'd be surprised if that were the case.

You can tell cause his jump shot was flat which means no legs. Also notice how his percentage has dropped as he plays more minutes. His ballhandling is fine but jumper and explosiveness is lacking

Only 1.7 more per game on avg so far. But hope he gets his legs ready for Michigan. (I expect he will)

That goes for the whole team. Braden could have bailed this team out against OSU had he been able to hit some shots but giving up 45 points in the second half wasn't on him (any more than it was on any other Purdue player).

That's a bit of a flawed way to look at it. Yes, he averaged 34 minutes last year and is averaging 35.8 minutes this year. But prior to the foul trouble last night, he had averaged 38 minutes over his previous 10 games with 6 of those 10 being 39 minutes or more. That's a lot to ask a 21 year old, especially when you throw in the trips to both coasts in the last couple of weeks.

Another example of sitting a player with 2 fouls in the 1st half. Let them play. How many fouls did he end up with?

Coaches do this all the time and I disagree every time. Let your stars play. He was out of sync the rest of the game and so was the rest of the team. So what if he would have picked up his 3rd foul, he still has 2 more. Every minute your star sits, is a minute you can't get back. Play them!

I agree with you on this one. Would disagree on the “every time” tho. It’s much easier for bigs to pick up that 3rd foul than a PG.

Umm...he did let him play more in the first half.

Umm....he sat him for large minutes in the 1st half right after picking up the 2nd foul. That in and out at the end of the half didn't help anything. You're being disingenuous on this. You know the point I'm making and you see coaches do it all the time. He played much less in this game then he normally does and my point is there is no reason to pull him with 2 fouls. Nothing happens when you get 3 fouls, you still have 2 more to give. Got him out of the flow and he was never the same the rest of the game.

I agree with you… but:
Maybe CMP noticed that he looked a little worn down and figured that not playing 38-40 minutes again wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world??

It would be interesting to see data related to whether fouls come in batches. I've always believed that there's a psychological component with both players and refs that makes it more likely to pick up additional calls in a short period, but I don't have objective data to back that up. I agree with you in that I'm not in favor of sitting players for an extended period, but I do like to sit them for three or four minutes to give the player and refs a chance to reset.

I agree. I like that Paint sits bigs for a couple of minutes if they get an early foul. I think that is the reason.

Fair point. Maybe a short break and then right back in. I just think the 2 fouls and out is overblown and has become standard procedure for coaches. I think it's a little like the going on 4th down in football. It used to be "risky" to do that and if you didn't make it coach would be criticized. Now it's the standard. I think taking players out with 2 fouls in 1st half is same thing. Coaches are afraid if they do pick up the 3rd, they will look foolish for playing the guy. What gets lost is:

1. They may not pick up the 3rd foul in 1st half.
2. If they do, you have gotten production out of your top player for those minutes between 2 and 3.
3. If they do pick up 3rd, nothing happens. The player can still play and even has another 2 fouls to give.

Sitting the player also can mess up their flow and the teams. I think both of those happened against OSU. But that's just my take on it.
