Wow....gotta say, I'm really glad I was so wrong about Smith. As many of you know, I was not a fan of his recruitment. I didn't think he had the size, speed, athleticism to compete at this level. He's not only proven me wrong, but he's being mentioned in the POY and All-American conversation. That's just...incredible.
I haven't been this wrong since I passed on buying a bunch of Bitcoin when it was about $2000.......
Congrats Braden, and congrats Coach Painter on a helluva find.

LOL Yep epic fail on the call. But at least you registered an opinion.

I thought he would be good. I sure didnt know he would be AA quality good and the 2nd best PG in America. Best in many people's eyes.

You’re wrong about Mockobee too.

Maybe you should fine new hobbies? Talent assessment isn’t one of them!

I likened him to Scotty Skiles. Skiles was not a tremendous athlete and he was also short. But there was just something about him that spelled competitor and success.

Smith is a floor general. And a coach on the court . Those are very rare qualities. That requires more than just athleticism!

Despite his lack of physical abilities, Skiles Had a very successful college career and a pretty good NBA career.

I believe with both Skiles and Smith, their success is ultimately connected to their college coaches and style of play. They are/were the perfect fit for their coaches system.

In a different system and a different coach both players may not have been as successful.

I liked and respected Skiles a lot even though he never played for Purdue

Very few of us predicted the success that Smith would have at the time he committed. I remember being very impressed by some YouTube videos but had no idea that he would be a likely first team All American by his junior year.

Similar things could be said about Edey and Ivey at the time of their commitment. I didn’t hear people predicting the greatness that Edey achieved or that Ivey would be the fifth pick in the NBA draft after his sophomore year.

Throw in Carsen Edwards and others before him and this is happening too often to be mere luck on Painter’s part.

Who do you think is the best PG? I'm guessing you consider Kam Jones a PG?

Unique to Marquette, Kam Jones is not their only PG. Some places have him as a 2/3. So If calling Kam Jones a 2/3 makes you feel better go and do so. But here are 3 sources that have him as Point Guard, where he initiates the offense NOW and also will in the NBA,.......

I don't always agree with Bone, but hell, I don't always agree with anyone on here. We all have takes that turn out right and some that turn out wrong. It's a message board after all. I've never understood why some like to dig up old takes and throw them in posters face. But that's just me.

People that have different opinions is what makes a board work. Otherwise, you just have an echo chamber, and we already have plenty of those elsewhere in our lives.

I have different opinions on what a point guard is and is supposed to do. Some people claim Steph Curry and Damon Lillard are awesome point guards. I see them both as guards that score a lot of points. Although he scored a lot of points, I saw Oscar Robertson as a point guard. Magic was a point guard. I’m not sure about Isiah Thomas or Wade.

My definition of a point guard is that of a guy who is the floor general and coach on the floor. I thought Sichting was a much better point guard than Parker. I saw Parker as more of a shooter.

I’m not as familiar with IU players. I thought Alford was a shooter. I thought Quinn Buckner was an awesome point guard .

I saw Carsen Edwards and Ivey as more of a shooter than point guard.

To me, smith is the pure definition of a point guard. Sort of like Stockton and Nash.

I know there is plenty of room for disagreement.

I didn't argue with you. I think it's debatable even with the sources you provided but don't really care one way or the other. Was just looking for clarification on your thoughts.
