Hearing some rumblings from my sources that Olsen is being pushed by some former players.

Olsen's job history looks like that of a wandering vagabond over the last 25 years with 13 stops (2 times at Purdue where he burned his bridge with Tiller).

Also hearing that there have been a number of different contacts to Skip Holtz.

Nothing in his resume says great recruiter or head coach. Not sure what would suddenly make him the flavor of the day to fill this spot unless we just aren't getting looks from quality candidates.

like Tedord, I think we can and need to do better.

I hope that Bob listened to R.Woodson about what Purdue needed to start the long road back. Recruiting Indiana and recruiting the Midwest. We need a coach with Midwest ties like Fleck,Spack the coach at N. Dakota State or a good D/C or O/C from Wisc.,Ohio State etc.

Are these the same players that were praising the Danny hope hire?

In all seriousness, I was advocating the hire of Greg Olsen four years ago instead of Hazel. But now, I'm not sure he brings enough of a turbo boost to elevate the program. Maybe as OC.

I think both are real possibilities and both are better options than the current. It is what we are- we can't get the top option so find the best option that will work for us. Miles or Fleck makes the most sense on paper.

Olson would give offensive credibility and my guess is Drew Brees is advocating for him and that pulls weight. I think he would be a good college coach- I won't knock the "vagabond" thing as that is the nature of that business. Heck look at Ed Orgeron who is a good coach. LSU, USC, Ole Miss, Tennessee, etc.

Skip has done a nice job everywhere except USF, but there are some challenges there with facilities and the like. I could see us hiring Skip Holtz. He is a big boy coach.

I dont want Olson.I want someone with head coaching experience.

It is all relative to what the other choices are. I mean, I would want Nick Saban. Or if people want Les Miles or P.J. Fleck or whatever. What if they say "no"? Would you rather have Cam Cameron or Greg Olson? Cam has HC experience. I like HC experience if it is quality experience. We will see. Whoever it is, support it and see. I think with Hazell it seemed clear nothing would improve. Hope's first year proved we would be an erratic .500ish team. I think you can tell pretty quick.

Holtz is an absolute waste, and as for Olsen.....I'll use that word again....settle. Personally, I want Les Miles.

Actually, I know the situation at USF, and it was Holtz' inability to recruit and/or coach at the level expected. He was not at all a fan or player favorite there.

I don't know much about the guy, but it seems like skip Holtz would've already made it by now as a P5 coach if he was ever going to make it, with his last name, at age 52.

Agree. He's had every opportunity to be a successful coach, and he's average. Average is better than what we've had for the last eight years, but it's not enough at this point.

That should tell all that the new AD isn't a bit better than the old one. Olson gets shit-canned and Purdue gives him an interview.
Assuming Drew Brees and committee member Matt Light may have expressed interest, the AD owed them the courtesy of at least sitting down with him.

Don't get started with that crap. MBob has already shown he is an improvement over Burke.

Exactly. You look at how Morgan did his last major job search, getting around to it in December or so. If this was Burke making decisions I/we may not be as patient.

Sources telling me that Olson (I corrected it...sorry!) has interviewed for the job already. No idea what came about from it but he was given a fair shake. As another person noted, it could be because of Brees giving him a push and wanting to keep the most notable of recent football alums happy...or it could be because Purdue may be on list #3 for potential hires.

Sporting news confirmed he interviewed. IMO, the interview was to appease DB

he was released by the Jags because they wanted a more balanced attack, I believe in that philosophy too, we just can't keep throwing it 50 to 60 times a game. I like a passing attack but once you become too one dimensionable the opposing D will just tee off.

Having seen the Jags play the Titans on Thursday Night Football, play calling was a small part of what was wrong with that outfit.

Hey - you're in TX right? How is AJ Hammonds doing with the Mavs?
Yes I am. I haven't gotten to see much of him yet. Been busy with work where I haven't gotten the chance to catch many Mavs games. I watched their first game, he was a scratch in one and didn't even dress. Their second he got on the court, but it must have been during a bathroom break cause he wasn't on the court at any point I saw. He seems very engaged while on the bench, cheering and high 5ing during timeouts. I don't think he's played much. I know he got to play a good amount the other night in a blowout loss vs the Warriors. He had a handful of points and a couple rebs vs them.

Who knows, he may turn into a good hire but he is certainly not someone who excites the fan base and makes them run out to buy season tickets.

Maybe they reached out to Miles and Fleck and both said they were not interested and they need to go a different route. Who knows.

I'm sure Fleck will not be contacted till the season's over.

This guy is just looking to make the next big buck. Is that bad? No, of course not. But down deep he could care less about this p[lace if he fails after 3-4 years. Don't hire. Brees made him. He didn't make Brees.
