What if Loyer were to come off the bench in Saturday's game

Here me out. He's struggling right now offensively and is on the weaker side of D. Perhaps Purdue should start SMITH, HARRIS, COLVIN, HEIDI, and TKR. Then bring Loyer in off the bench.

I don't think you make a change in the starting lineup at this point but I'd have a very quick trigger on making subs depending on how the other team is defending or attacking.
Harris brings better D that Loyer but if Mc is allowing Loyer open looks, you gotta leave him in and hope he hits a ton of 3s.
Heide has been a terror on the boards lately and has also seemed to gotten confident with his shooting. He could be a difference-maker.

Lets hope for this.

I hope Cam and Myles explode in this game and Loyer gets more open looks. He should have opportunities. We just need to make sure we are not overly sloppy with our passes.

Wish we had a team where Loyer was 5th option. That would be a FF team, no doubt.

But get real, this is not that team. Loyer is our 3rd option. And I hope he has a big, big game tomorrow.

Agree.

This won't change and at this point it shouldn't. If, we can get Loyer to be more productive and our bench continues to shine. We could do some real damage.

Yep and paint did just this yesterday. Subs came in a whole lot quicker yesterday in the first few mins than they had been in the regular season. Painter and staff also adjusted at half and started Heide instead of Furst. Furst then only played maybe 1-2 min in second half and Heide played 31 mins total (has to be a career high?!). Heide took advantage of the mins.

If him, Myles and gicarri—and even berg, can give us those same numbers rest of torurney, we will be tough to beat. Even if they could give 60-75% of that production , we will be tough to beat.

Let’s hope we take down another double digit seed and get to Indy!

Heide played 35 minutes against North Carolina State and 33 minutes against Mississippi earlier this year in the November Holiday tournament.

22 minutes was his high last year (@ Nebraksa and Grambling (NCAA 1st round).

He's earned 25-30 right now, and Boilers will need him against McNeese tomorrow.

Heide is making a name for himself in the last few games. I enjoy his enthusiasm (and hops) as well as his D and O abilities. I anticipate the bench being a HUGE factor in favor of Purdue against most teams. I thought Miles and Harris did a pretty good job yesterday. We'll need all these guys to grow through these experiences and bring that development into the program next year. I didn't see BURGESS play yesterday but good to see BERG out there.

I just feel LOYER needs something to get him moving again. He seems hesitant to shoot it sometimes and drives into the lane. In a game when we dominated the boards, I would shoot from behind the arc, follow my shot in case I miss, get the rebound (2:1 odds that you will), then reload the offense.

Burgess is basically unable to play...MAJOR shin splints.

Had those with competitive running - way worse than leg cramps, which are treatable and manageable a lot of the time.

Ice, rest, and some pain/inflammation meds - when it gets bad enough you can't run or jump (basically any impact activity) without severe pain (and sometimes can't even walk very far without pain).

same here, back in the day I was told it was from slapping the feet too hard when running

Yeah - Pa.....a lot of different things could cause it - footwear, changing surfaces, correcting gait/running style, lack of proper warm-up, old injury or past stress not healed yet, or just ramping up too quickly.

For me, they changed my shoes, and after rehab, I ramped up on dirt/walking path/trails.......if I could have had everything on those trails.....

Loyer’s off-season homework assignment - add a catch and shoot 3 ala Cline, Carsen and Mathias. If he has that, he is even more of an asset.

I think we'll see some new wrinkles, and I would hasten to wager he's continuing working on lateral quickness drills.....

Thought he did add some more ability to the drive game this season. Yeah, we joke about 'ol man/co-rec Fletch, and he still can occasionally get steam-rolled, but objectively (and admittedly it's maybe hard for some of us alums to be truly objective)....he's improved.

Would love to see that on-the-move ability from long-range besides in transition.....how about the Cline dribble, cross, step-back? Loyer has that nice side-step move.....add the Fletch-back Boom Baby...... :)

If Berg can come in and play smart (don't set moving picks, don't foul in the post, don't go over the back) and just walls up on D, and gets garbage buckets, then that's a huge lift off the bench.
He did exactly what he needed to do yesterday and gave the team what it needed.

This….all of this. If he can provide 10-15 serviceable minutes, it totally changes the dynamic. To the moving screen point, some of that is on Braden not being patient to let him get set before moving.

Our bench gave us outstanding quality minutes yesterday. Berg seems so even keeled, like "no big deal" when something major happens. His play made it easier to give TKR some "no more fouls" bench time. Nice.

Agree. The ballhandler has to help his screener. But, you have to set and either the ballhandler drives the defender into it or not. If you lean or slide or stick out a knee, they're gonna call it (FURST!!)

I think it helped a lot that Berg started what, the first 10 games this year? He's got experience, he just needs to play smart and play within himself. Do what the team needs knowing you're not the focus of the offense but there's opportunities for points and RBs if you put yourself in the right position.

And TKR sometimes. It's almost like the refs. are looking for him to do it.

Haha yes for sure. It’s a tough task tho. I remember yesterday that TKR set an on ball screen for Braden and then reset another screen for him and then proceeded to try and get set another 2 times after that to get Smith open. In that case, it totally is on smith. BUT to your point about Furst and throughout the conf season, there were a good amount of times where the screener wasn’t set and I feel the refs were looking for ANY type of movement from the screener to call an offensive foul. The B1G refs seemed so whistle happy to call those 😂

I got my fix on games yesterday and noticed so many illegal screens, not being called. Some were obvious. I kept saying if it was Purdue doing that, they would call it every time. Hopefully we don't get many BT refs. in the tournament.

Ol’ high knees (Jeffery Anderson) who was awful in the big ten and everywhere, did the KU Ark game last night in providence. I am HOPING we don’t get him on Saturday.

But to your point, I think big ten officials just call games different and it’s frustrating as hell.
