What does painter need to do better?

The "Baby Boilers of the 2000's" was the 2007 class, not 2006. The '06-'07 team had two senior starters exhaust their eligibility (Carl Landry, David Teague) and a third starter (junior-to-be Gordon Watt) was dismissed from the team just prior to the start of the '07-'08 season. Sophomore-to-be guard Chris Kramer was the only full-time starter returning. Sophomore-to-be Keaton Grant and senior-to-be Tarrance Crump had split all of the starts at the 1 between them in '06-'07.

Ya my bad typos with the first two dates I stated, add +1 to those please, I did however use the correct date by the time I referenced their freshman season :)

Anyway, I was trying to point out above that the baby boilers declared for Purdue before Xmas of 2006 (as I recall, correct me if this in error). And as you point out, there was to be only 1 returning, season long starter in Kramer. Much available minutes is something we can't offer right now.

Good Lord. You have NO IDEA what makes one recruit go to a school over another. Tradition most certainly plays a part in it and IU is an example of that, they get good recruiting classes but are coached by a moron so that offsets the class.

Ok, so in football, Purdue is known at the Cradle of Quarterbacks and was even being discussed as the Den of Defensive Ends.
How many Elite 11 QBs and Top DEs have we signed in the last 4 years?

Well, we do have 2 signees starting in the SEC. ;)

This is the problem Painter is having with the class of 2017, I bet most of these 4 star and 5 star guys want to play and a lot want a guaranteed starting job.Kids don't want to have to "earn" a position anymore. This generation thinks everything is just given not earned, and I am not that old! They don't want to sit the bench, Purdue isn't a place like NC, Duke, Kentucky, Mich St where guys will do that. Have to take flyers on a few kids that fly under the radar...or showing promising potential.

Not sure it matters who the coach is here (except a select few) could fix that.

Then why wouldn't a great PF want to come here. Biggie will most likely be gone after this upcoming season so that opens a starting spot at the 4.

Yeah my guess is Painter goes back to more of stretch four with VE at four and plays smaller. But a great PF is probably still worried that Biggie doesn't leave and they are riding the pine. I hope he has a monster year and goes first round but alot of what ifs, has sophmore slump or injury could slow him down from leaving.

I have no problems with Painter as an X and O's coach, and his players are not in the police blotter.

However, he is not a good recruiter. We've been extremely lucky that Haas and Biggie switched at the last minute, because they have camouflaged some issues with recruiting over the past 2 years.

If we are going to bash CMP when he loses out on recruits then he has to get credit when he lands good ones. You can't call it "lucky" unless you are willing to just call it "unlucky" when a kid decides to go somewhere else.

Recruiting is like pregnancy, either you are or you aren't. Either the player is here or their not. Not fair to diminish his having landed Biggie, Haas, Vince......

I would think that if the recruit is that good they will get playing time. Does MSU really have a lot of open starter spots? Surely not?
