This post obviously assumes no one of note leaves.

Given what I read, I disagree with what many have said regarding our needs.

PG - Nope. Very comfortable with Braden and Cox backing him up. You saw last night that he’s capable on the possessions we had Braden playing off ball. And even if you can’t get Braden some rest (not as important as some suggest), it’s just spot minutes barring injury.

2/3 - Need another guy who can do what Lance did. Be enough of a threat from three to be respected, be able to break guys off the dribble and be able to defend all 3 backcourt position. Ideally, the candidate will be 6’4 or taller tho.

4/5 - This is where I disagree with many. I’d like to see a 4 with some size, rebounding ability and the ability to shoot the 3. I think we’ve got the post covered with TKR, DJ and in a pinch RB, but the game last night showed our greatest shortcoming. We needed Furst on the floor for D and rebounding but Cam on the floor on the offensive end. If we could marry their greatest attributes, that would be ideal. I don’t love the idea of TKR playing alongside a true 5. That looks a lot like Ballo/Reneau and TJD/Troy Williams to me.

Tough ask but if we can fill those two slots, this team is preseason top 3 in the country and a title favorite (obviously depending on what other teams do).

If everyone came back I would say bring in one athletic big and run it back.
If you can get a slightly taller, more consistent version of Myles I'm not gonna complain either (I still like Myles tho).
In the last few games, Myles showed a little dribble pull-up midrange game that he hadn’t shown before (did it twice last night). He elevates so high that he can get that shot off against almost anyone. If he spends the offseason working on that and the three, he could be a very formidable offensive threat.

My guess is the public will find out this weekend what painter already knows about who is leaving. Unlike Haarms and Eastern I doubt there will be any surprises to painter this year. I have to believe he already knows and he’s already been recruiting.

agreed. And imma trust paint!

I’ll start a wishlist. Wonder what it’ll take to get the following?

Needs / Candidates:

1) shot blocker
Magoon Gwath

2) veteran combo guard
Ryan Conwell or
Adrian Wooley

3) stretch forward
Bryce Hopkins

Not happening. He’s lookin for a bag and we aren’t gonna offer to someone that raw

Ryan Conwell or
Adrian Wooley
Neither will come here. They want to be the guy and that’s not happening.
This will be conwells 4th team in 4 years
3) stretch forward
Bryce Hopkins
He’s staying in Big East with St. John’s trying to pay him major money

But I do agree with the description of what we need… wasn’t trying to put you down with those responses to the guys you listed

I appreciate the thought.

Man… we are just 1-2 impact players away from a legit NC run imho. (Would be more than happy to contribute to said fund lol)

Did we have any rumored targets?

The problem with adding the big stars is that if they were a big star previously they are not going to want to come to Purdue to be a complementary role player. A player who is scoring 17-20 points a game is not going to come to a program where he would be our third option on offense!

I have to believe Purdue can offer close to as much NIL s as any other school can offer. And once smith and Loyer leave, there will be a bunch to offer. So a player with 2-3 years remaining might accept less that first year and make up for it the following year

Early reports are Iowa state is favored to land him but hoping last night changes that. He would help make us an NC contender for sure
I like the film on Cluff, as mentioned I wonder how he feels about more of a supporting role on what should be a NC contender.

Ballard is a grown ass man, heading into I believe his sixth year. Rebounds, blocks shots, shot something like 75% from the field.

I’d welcome Cluff, who is an elite rebounder, but Ballard would also be a great addition. This team already has some swagger but some nastiness could really help.

don't forget Williamson from BUCKNELL

I like what I have seen of Williamson and my guess is he has a high ceiling and Brantley and crew would help him get there.
I also think Williamson and Cluff could play together as 4/5…
Why not push to land both

Would not be at the top of my list at 7.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in almost 30 minutes per game. He’s long and has some skill and he wants to come here and Painter wants him I’m on board but would love to see a more physical player.

My guess is you probably won't do that if you have both Myles and Cam coming back, meaning that Cam is going to play minutes at the four. In that case, you have Trey, Cam, and DJ getting minutes for sure and RB, if he's healthy, in the mix. I don't see MP regularly playing more than four guys at the 4/5, so it seems like overkill to bring in two high-level transfers unless you think that both are materially better than what you have now. Just IMO.

Why Harris? Heide is get but Harris played a decent amount for a freshmen and is poised for more playing time next season and then two years of completely running the show.
I'd be really surprised if Cam goes anywhere, particularly with minutes opening up a bit with Myles leaving.

FWIW:

Cluff shot 78% at the foul line this year. Bidunga shot 53%. Not the only stat that matters, I know. But Cluff is probably going to be a lot better for my ticker.
