Football Visitors Galore
Tomorrow marks the end of the Spring Season for first-year head coach, Ryan Walters, and with that, a plethora of high school visitors will invade Purdue's campus for their "closed" practice. Among those visitors will be blue-chipper and verbal commit, Marcos Davila. Davila committed to Purdue weeks ago after his first visit to campus, his return to visit with the coaching staff is a great sign of how strong his commitment is to Coach Walters. Also, a player that will commit this weekend is running back, Christian Womack. Womack, an unranked All-Purpose Back was approached early in the week by Coach Conard on social media. He was a verbal to Blinn Junior College, which is almost used as a prep school for SEC schools. He has scored 47 touchdowns and rushed for over 3,400 yards during his last two seasons at Tomball High School. He is an under-the-radar prospect, but sometimes, those turn out to be the best. Womack is a class of 2023 prospect.
Caleb Mitchell-Irving will return to campus after he was at Purdue in early March, making the trek from Dallas, Texas, once again. The 3-Star prospect is a defensive end for the 2024 class. Another Texan, Ashton Bethel-Roman will be on campus this weekend as well, he is a 3-star wide receiver from Missouri City, Texas.
Three Star Inside Linebacker, Jayden Brown from Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey will be here this weekend as well. Another east coast talent will be around this weekend, Samuel Madu, a Safety from New York. Another safety, Leontre Bradford will be here as well, this will be the St. Louis natives' second visit to Purdue during the Spring Months.
Stanford transfer and likely starting cornerback, Salim Turner-Muhammad will be on campus this weekend, visiting his future home.
Some in-state players will find their way to campus as well, Carmel High School will send up two prospects, 2024 Cornerback Christian Peterson and 2025 offensive lineman Evan Parker will be in West Lafayette. Hamilton Southeastern's running back, Jalen Alexander who had over 1500 yards rushing as a junior will be on hand Saturday as well. Currently unranked, he is another all-purpose back that apparently Coach Conard looks for.
Guerin Catholic's Quarterback, Ryan Zimmerman will be here Saturday as well, another under-the-radar prospect for 2024 as he dealt with an injury. Ben Davis will send up two 2025 prospects in defensive tackle Isaiah White and Offensive Lineman Kenneth Guinhoya. 2025 Cathedral Defensive Lineman DeVaughn Perkins will be here Saturday, as well as Noblesville's 2025 defensive lineman, Israel Oladipupo.
Football Transfer Portal Targets
Purdue is sending out offers left and right in the transfer portal. Earlier this week they received a verbal from Penn State Transfer, Marquis Wilson. Shon Stephens from West Liberty University will commit to Purdue once the NCAA approves his waiver for a 7th year of eligibility.Coach Walters, earlier this week, stated he would expect to take seven to nine more transfers from the portal. Offers have been flying out to prospects all over. For the offensive line, Tulsa's Jaden Muskrat, Wyoming Offensive Tackle Emmanuel Pregnon, and Houston Offensive Tackle Trevonte Sylvester have all received a Purdue offer this week. Purdue has also offered a junior college offensive lineman, once again, offering Kareem Harden, who was the teammate of Issiah Walker at Butler Community College, Walker will be at Purdue come the summer.
Florida Atlantic Wide Receiver Jahmal Edrine received an offer this week, as well as Oregon Defensive Lineman Treven Ma'ae. The most interesting portal offer this week may be Myles Rowser, who was a high school teammate of Deion Burks, a current Purdue Wide Receiver. He was once heavily recruited by Corners Coach Sam Carter before deciding to go to Campbell University, an FCS school.
He was a four-star prospect in high school, so kind of strange, but there is an opportunity for him to link back up with Coach Carter and his former teammate, Deion Burks.
Basketball Recruiting Continues On
With everyone breathing a sigh of relief after last week's Kanon Catchings Saga, the coaching staff will turn their attention to the AAU circuit in the coming weeks, looking to complete the 2024 class and get a great feel on the 2025 class.Everyone always wants to know what is going on with Kokomo's Flory Bidunga. He has yet to commit anywhere, but, from what I understand, it remains a long shot for Purdue to land the top 3 player in the nation and it is not due to lack of trying by any means.
Another big man that Purdue and Matt Painter have remained consistent on is Cincy's, Raleigh Burgess. He broke his leg in season and won't play again until summer, but through the injury, Painter has continued to recruit him hard, while some have cooled off from him, that tends to go a long way with a high school kid and their family.
Coach Painter completed an in-home visit with Travis Perry this Wednesday for an in-home visit. Casey went to see Perry last weekend in Indianapolis for an Indiana Elite Tournament, he seems to be as good as advertised, more of a combo guard than a true point guard.
Coach Painter is staying on hot pursuit of Giacarri Harris, Jalen Haraleson, and Trent Sisley. He plans to see them all this weekend on the AAU circuit.
Name, Image & Likeness
Unless you live under a rock, you probably saw the Athletic reporting that Zach Edey received just under 1 million in NIL last year. That is true and probably can be deemed as a bargain with all of the hardware he brought home. There is reason to believe that Purdue will indeed try to replicate that amount or even increase it if he decides to stay at the collegiate level. 2nd Round picks are rare to receive a fully guaranteed contract, it has happened more recently in years past but still remains very rare. The latest NBA Mock Drafts have Edey as a mid to late 2nd round selection and that will probably hold true unless someone guarantees him something at the Pre-Draft Workouts.
He basically has until the end of May to decide if he is staying in the draft or coming back to Purdue.
As you all know, Purdue was behind a variety of schools in the NIL arms race, they are playing catch up, but it is definitely getting better as time moves on. Coach Walters is a driving force in this, as he really believes that Purdue's facilities are up to par with just about anyone. On Kevin & Query, he stated that he asks alumni to donate to NIL rather than the facilities projects now. Like I said yesterday, he is a chameleon who has adjusted well in terms of recruiting with the NIL.
