6-7 can handle the ball, drives, and can jump. What's he missing?
Sadly, playing time that someone else is getting.6-7 can handle the ball, drives, and can jump. What's he missing?
Not being able to beat out any of the guys in front of him during practice.6-7 can handle the ball, drives, and can jump. What's he missing?
Waddell can flat out play. End of story.Sadly, playing time that someone else is getting.
Nothing.6-7 can handle the ball, drives, and can jump. What's he missing?
even vs actual starters?Waddell can flat out play. End of story.
Who knows for sure, but there's still a jock strap under the basket after his euro move.even vs actual starters?
Oh man…he needs to def play 20 mins a game then!Who knows for sure, but there's still a jock strap under the basket after his euro move.
💯I think that he would do fine if needed, but I have no doubt that Painter is playing the guys who he thinks give him the best chance to win.
And he’s a SMALL FORWARD!Oh man…he needs to def play 20 mins a game then!
Putting the euro step on a bench player on an awful team has to earn him more mins, right?! RIGHT?!
For sure. I did wonder during Myles and Cams gestation period just how close Matt came to giving him some pt.I think that he would do fine if needed, but I have no doubt that Painter is playing the guys who he thinks give him the best chance to win.
Why do you create opposing arguments that don't exist? But go ahead and say Wadell needs to be a starter ahead of Harris, cox and Myles! I’m sure if Wadell entered the portal, Kansas and Duke and Kentucky would all be fighting amongst themselves to sign him.
I think it was YOU watching the box score. Did you see his two post moves? We don’t have anyone that plays the 3-5 that can do that except Heide and maybe TKR. He looked good let’s not take that away from him. On most big ten teams he would be getting meaningful minutes and could have even started for Rutgers.Last night was one of those nights where I say stat geeks know nothing about the game. If you take Wadell’s stats out of contest, and used the stats per minutes stat, you could claim if given a chance, Wadell could put up 40 points and night and grab 30 rebounds! Based on stats per minutes, Wadell is a superstar. The same could be said of Berg. He was awesome if you used stats per minutes played.
There is a good reason that neither player plays more minutes. And there was also a reason they scored as many points as they did. It was the last home game. And they both realized this would probably be their last chance to score some points. And by that time, Rutgers was going through the motions with their own third string.
It was nice to see king and elf’s brother get a chance to play.
As I said, this is why the stats per minutes stat stat is a worthless stat. But go ahead and say Wadell needs to be a starter ahead of Harris, cox and Myles! I’m sure if Wadell entered the portal, Kansas and Duke and Kentucky would all be fighting amongst themselves to sign him.
I was thinking the same thing... I'm not sure why this kid doesn't see the floor, or didn't when we were in the 4 game losing streak.6-7 can handle the ball, drives, and can jump. What's he missing?
I'm using the eye test for both Wadell & Berg. IMO Wadell passes that eye test & could help this team. Berg does not... I don't care about stats.Last night was one of those nights where I say stat geeks know nothing about the game. What we don't know is how is his defense? The point of the thread was not to start any controversy. Just thought Waddell looked impressive in limited minutes. 2 very nice moves to get to the hoop and looked very comfortable handling the ball. There have been quite a few discussions on this board about getting an athletic wing who can dribble, drive, and shoot. Not sure if Waddell is necessarily that guy but he appears to have some talent.
I don't think you can call it a whiff on talent analysis. Brian is obviously a very good player, and on a lesser talented team he'd probably get quality minutes and possibly start. But we all know the family connection here, and without it, he might be somewhere else. That's not to knock him at all. But it is what it is.What we don't know is how is his defense?
As someone more likely to be willing to criticize Painter than most here, I just don't think he's likely to make that big a miss on talent analysis.
I mean he's been desperate enough to throw Berg out there at times (briefly) so if he's not been willing to even give Waddell spot minutes that should tell folks something.
Either he's completely whiffed on talent analysis like nobody's business (highly unlikely since that's literally his calling card), or Waddell simply isn't showing Painter he should take minutes from anyone in front of him.
I have seen guys in pick up games who look great. Great moves, dunking over people. They pass the eye test. They could not even sit on Purdue's bench. Wadell /Berg play against second and third stringers at garbage time. Painter sees him and Berg against first stringers in practice, they apparently don't show well.I'm using the eye test for both Wadell & Berg. IMO Wadell passes that eye test & could help this team. embellished. They've shown they belong on the floor, so I'd wager they have their days, just like everyone else on the team.I have seen guys in pick up games who look great. Great moves, dunking over people. They pass the eye test. They could not even sit on Purdue's bench. Wadell /Berg play against second and third stringers at garbage time. The whiff would be the idea that Painter is holding a talented playable player on the bench not the recruiting part.I don't think you can call it a whiff on talent analysis. Someone has to be the 12th man on every roster.
Right. Obviously a big reason why he was even offered imo was the connection/friendship with his dad. I don't think he's got a grudge against Brian and for that reason not allowing him mins. The whiff would be the idea that Painter is holding a talented playable player on the bench not the recruiting part.
