I'm frustrated that Colvin and Heide are NOT doing much and believe that others should get a chance. If you're honest even you with your man crush on Colvin have to be disappointed in their performance. As for defense, I'm not real impressed with either Colvin or Heide. If you go back and look at each game, the tempo of play changes drastically when they come in.
And Colvin no longer starts. Because he's not progressed and as a matter of fact has regressed.
He'd be playing if that were the case.
reality has to be that the coaches think the ceiling is higher for Cam/Myles if they get the pt they need. Developing (minutes) 3 at one position... just not workable and maybe nobody develops. As is, Myles is slowly becoming more of a factor. That had to happen for this team to get better.
Because I trust one of the best coaches in college basketball who watches him every week in practice and does not play him except for garbage time. Or I could trust fans on a fan site, who get excited by pretty moves against second and third string players. Hmmm...
Yeah, for sure disappointed in how they have looked. However, I then compared them to their peers (sophomores) who play the same mins (less than 20) with less than 5 shots per game and saw that they both were in the top 20 of 200 sophomores. I Have also tried to explain to you that Myles is a volume shooter who needs more than random shots throughout the game to get going. Those type of shooters need to get the feel, touch and adjust depth perception with the adrenaline going. If you have played basketball at any level, you’d understand this.
Heide, while not a volume shooter, needs more than 1-2 shots a game to get a feel as well.
I have also tried to tell you that Purdues offense does not create very many scoring opportunities for the non big 3.
As far as defense, if you can’t tell that they both have improved on defense from the previous year, I don’t know what else to tell you and will continue to question your evaluation of basketball talent.
And the tempo on defense drastically changes? I’m not even sure what you mean by this, not sure if you’re throwing buzz words out or what.
And lastly, when I asked what are your expectations for them or how should they be performing, you just provide a word salad with a whole lot of nothing. So if you want to give a better answer than last time, feel free.
Until then, I’m going to continue to trust that painter and staff have better eyes for what’s best for the team than you do.
15 minutes. 0 points. 0 rebounds. Proof enough? How many times did he try to guard from behind because he simply got beat.
Who we talking about here? Cuz Myles played 14 mins and had 2 points off a half court lob (Waddell wouldn’t have been able to do this) and had a 3 go in and out and had to chuck up a last second 3 as the shot clock was winding down due to Braden dumping it off with 2 seconds left to him.
I sure hope you don’t think defense only means rebounding and steals? For sure you’re not just box score watching, are ya Twin?
Dwayne, He played 15 minutes, and I stand corrected, scored 2 points on 1 of 3 shooting, two of which were 3's. No assists, no boards, and a bonus of no turnovers. I just don't think he's anywhere you believe or want him to be.
Kind of like a hitter taking called third strikes back-to-back.
Problem with the Boilers that will kill them in the tourney (and has through the season), they have no viable subs who can come in a make a difference offensively on a consistent basis. As for Myles and Cam on defense, I've agreed they have improved, but how much is where you and I disagree again. Heide is the better of the two right now, and too many times Myles is chasing his man because he's been beaten.

If you’re going to just box score watch, at least get the mins right. And if you watch the offense he doesn’t have much opportunity to record an assist as the offense revolves around Braden And TKR having the ball 75-85% of the time.
If you have played basketball, rebounds don’t always come to you. Also, Myles (or Heide) may not always be in the position to grab the rebound, as their man may be headed back on defense or maybe they are already starting their break to get on offense or maybe they even just boxed their man out so someone else on the team could get the rebound.
I’m not saying he’s an amazing player, I’m saying your expectations are way too high for a second year, 19 year old who doesn’t have the ball in his hands like our best player does. He’s playing his role well and is getting better. Just like he did last year.
Why can’t you give any sort of actual numbers that you think he and Heide should be averaging right now?
And yes, the bench is a concern, but there are a lot of other areas that are of concern as well.
We'll just have to disagree on a lot regarding Myles and Heide. But today was a great day as Auburn lost, and any time Pearl loses, it's always a great day. More tomorrow.
It has to be tough on Brian to had so many injuries after his initial red shirt. On the positive side I think he could penetrate and move the defense and provide team type advantages such as rotating D through driving the ball, and general court savvy. However, I'm unsure how physical D might hinder some of those things. I also question his perimeter shooting due to form "if" playing large minutes and perhaps in a different environment than we typically see him. I believe there were times he could and should have seen more play, but it is what it is. Every player looks better when playing with other good players and so that is always in play when practice is in play. That said, I assume confidently that Matt is cognizant of that and rotates brian in with the starters some. Personally, I wish it were different because I know some of the family and before his injuries had higher expectations even before his freshman redshirt year.
I think if you were to look into the sophomores that play the same mins as those two do, off the bench, you’ll see Myles and cam are better than a majority of them.
oh god no. Cam (bless his heart) is flat out invisible if he's not fouling. At least myles is hitting a shot or two.
One of them is clearly coming on, though not fast enough for any of us.
And it's not Cam.
That's no dig on Cam, he's working hard, but he's undersized playing as a 4 and just can't do much. Another year in the weight room and he'll be much more effective next year AND the team won't need him playing 4 as much.
Both Cam and Myles will be much better and regular rotation guys the next 2 years.

That very well could be, and I'll take your word, but I'm still on the side that they just don't have the tools to come in and spot starters without the team losing a lot when they're in.
Purdue, other than Harris just doesn't have much after the starters. With what is said on here regarding Myles, IMO he should come in and be one of the best 6th or 7th men in the league after two seasons, but he isn't, and he doesn't show it. And honestly, Heide doesn't either. Sure, he's had one game in double figures, but he's also had several where he didn't score or get an assist or even a rebound. And while his defense has improved a bit, he's still not at the point where he can come in and alter the game by stopping someone and shutting an offense down.
Can they improve, maybe/maybe not, that is to be seen. It may be a lot of mental issues with them, or in Colvin's case, and I've said this before, stems from the lack of competition he played in HS with a very weak schedule...I'm trying to give him the benefit of doubt as I am Heide. Myles was the stud because it was easy in his situation. It happens a lot at smaller programs.
And again, I hope they both become great Boilers, and I have nothing against either, but I'm simply stating my opinion as I see it.
